Hello all, I've been eyeing the spontaneous Diviner variation from Complete Champion lately and am pondering on making a diviner specialist, but the main problem is I just don't know any good divinations that I'd want to cast every day, let alone prepare every day.

Can anyone here give me some good suggestions on 1st-5th level divinations, and which books they're from?

True Strike. 1st level spell. EXTREMELY effective at those low levels when one hit could mean the difference between victory and TPK.

Identify and Detect Secret Doors are always usful, and a level 4 spell called Unluch is good (if the victim fails a Will save, they have to roll everything twice while taking the worst result. It lasts for 1 round/caster level).

Okay, you missed the point of Spontaneous Divination. It's not so you can be a Divination specialist and prepare divination spells. It's so you can be a Conjuration Specialist, prepare no Divination spells, and then cast whatever you need, whenever you need it.

Here is a list of Divination spells sorted by level and ranked. (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=969772)

Augury and Divination and Commune (All Core) with the Prophet of the Divine feat from Powers of Faerun for special effects.

Get them through original spell research or Arcane Disciples (Complete Divine) or Adepts (Commune) DMG.

Coin Scry is kinda neat tipping a servant.

Thanks for clarifying that.

C. Champ is borked.

Indeed. Almost everything out of that book comes off as either incredibly weak or brokenly good.

Detect thoughts. Don't forget, it works through wooden doors. Detect undead too, but only if you expect undead (otherwise you'll just waste it with guessing).

In general a lot of the detect/scry/etc. spells are good as long as you can make constant use of them. Generally I save utility spells for scrolls (and div has a lot of those) b/c they fill up your prepped spells and might never get used. Examples would include comp languages or legend lore. But if I understand correctly, spontaneous divination lets you select any div spell without preparation? Okay, then reverse everything I just said. Ya, complete 180. Look up every utility spell, and be ready for every obscure situation imaginable.

PC: "What/where/who/how is the..."
You: "It's this. Done. Mystery solved. Ok, we know what's going on, let's go tackle it."

But the intent here is clear - it's just yet another of the RAW Abuse interpretations. Spontaneous Divination out of the Wizard's spells known isn't really that overpowering (since it means you didn't enter Master Specialist on 3, for example).

By the way, one thing you may want to try (if you wanna be a Divination-specialist) is to take levels in Unseen Seer. The Advanced Learning allows you to learn Divinations from other classes' lists. It's also the class for Rogue/Wizards, so you could be the skill monkey too. You still don't need to prepare any Divinations and can convert all your slots into Divs on the "as needed"-basis.
