I know this is definitely a stupid question, but I just want to make sure. Since I am one of the few "holdouts", I am worried most of the comic will begin going over my head. :smallfrown:

The Giant said in his news post on 5/20 (http://www.giantitp.com/index.html) that OotS would not be switching over. He will, however, feel free to make 4e jokes regardless.

Much appreciated for the information!

He already has made 4e references. Recall the comic http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0558.html where Durkon mentions that Ignorance is a Class Power Source for Elan. I wouldn't be surprised if there's been one or two others by now, too.

Hmm, I wonder, what are the books Kubota is reading?

Maybe that will be what defeats Kubota: he converts himself, thinking that he's very clever to be getting a jump on everybody, and then when the confrontation happens OOPS! none of his abilities work!

meh. It made more sense in my head, I think.

Are there NPC classes in the 4th Edition? If there aren't any, then he would cease to exist altogether unless he has PC class levels.

I'm sorry if I lack any understanding whatsoever, but what exactly is a "class power source"? That sounds like something from... uh... this book that doesn't say "advanced" on it and only has six classes, two of which are optional. They have these "prime requisites" that "class power source" kinda reminds me of...

There isn't a list of example classes from what I saw. I might have missed something, though.
That would also mean... that Mystic Theurge person would... have some interesting effect. She definitely has a few levels in two other classes, but she wouldn't have Mystic Theurge anymore... which would leave her incredibly underpowered even if the extra levels were converted rather than lost.
Then again, she doesn't have to worry about much compared to, say, Elan or Thog. Poor thog, nobody at WotC likes him. :smallfrown:
And then we have Xykon. That would be amusing if the Big Bad we've had for the entire comic ceases to exist. Nale would also lose about a third of his levels, and I'm not so sure about some of these monsters, but that would be the most amusing one.

in 4th ed, classes have a 'power scource' which is basically a general discriptor of how they do the awesome stuff they do. the basic ones are Martial, Devine and Arcane. A Primal power scorce is coming out along with the druid and barbarian, so the list will expand as time goes on.

So, for example, the fighter, with his Martial power scorce, pulls of his tricks by sheer training and grit. A cleric (devine power) can do his stuff by the channeling the power of his god though him. A Wizard (arcane) can cast spells by directly playing around with magic. And so on.

basically, the joke is that Elans abilities are powered by his general Ignorance.

Nah, that's a joke that would only work once. And (I say as the guy who made the joke in the first place) it's not so good that I'd use it on a really important villain.

No, OotS has pretty much already completely given up on being a parody of DnD mechanics and gameplay, 4th edition, 3rd, or otherwise.

If Xykon ceased to exist due to the mechanics changing, what would happen with the blood oath? It's not as if Roy would even be able to have Xykon raised just so that he could be killed.
