Share your art from outside sources, character sketches, and any other art.

I'm splitting this off of the OotS Arts and Crafts over in Comics, because that one became a behemoth very quickly.

I just have a favour for all artists out there:

Please shrink your pictures so that they are below 100kb. My modem is 56k, and I'd love to post here but it's slow enough without adding huge pictures.

Of course, I'm getting DSL tomorrow ;D

Thanks, guys.

Edit: Also, I am making a coloring book website should anyone love to colour, but can't draw worth a flip. (Mine's the other way around.)

Cool. My stuff can be found in OOTS Arts and Crafts II, but I will add a small list of my uploaded samples below:

Khadagar Bonesplitter, Dwarven Seige Engineer (Rogue/Fighter)
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y228/EvilWalks/khad1.gif

Ankheth, the Eternal Holy Warrior of Isis (Mummy Paladin of Isis)
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y228/EvilWalks/ankh1.jpg

Nekhra Jelsk, Former Vampyre Slayer, now Gangrel Vampyre (Ranger/Barbarian)
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y228/EvilWalks/nekhra1.gif

Darth Ridau, Twi'Lek Sith Master
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y228/EvilWalks/ridau1.gif

Cora Blackwood, Teenager-with-uber-Necromatic-Fire-Power (Sorcereress/Pale Master)
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y228/EvilWalks/Cora2.gif
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y228/EvilWalks/Cora3.gif
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y228/EvilWalks/Cora1.gif

With the exception of Ridau, all these where done in under 30 minutes.

I got a lot more too, but I need to walk about 16 blocks to my mother's to use her printer/scanner and I am terribably lazy.

Ilaun, you're not getting the coding wrong, this board just doesn't support HTML. And it says that it can't find the page I'm looking for.

I see that there are 2 new threads for "Arts and Crafts". Any chance that one would be more non-OotS style art? I went looking through that 'behemoth' thread [40 pages] looking for art posts and found very few actual pieces of art or links to art galleries and of what I did find, most of it was OotS inspired. I see the other new thread mentioned 'avatars' in the heading so I'm hopeful for this one....

Hey, Malachi, (and anyone else that wishes to know) you obviously have not seen my artwork. It is in a lot of the arts & crafts II thread, but here's the link to it:

Wukei's Artwork (http://photobucket.com/albums/y262/Wukei/)

Feel free to colour anything. Please post it here afterwards so that I may see. And if you wish to use it on your own website, please link back to my comic @ http://www.angelfire.com/comics2/life-for-death/index.html. Thanks.

This is the specifiacally for the non-OotS art. 40 pages is a lot when every other post has at least one image in it. And every single reply loads when you reply to the thread.

Plus with Lilly modding both Comics and Silly Games, she has enough on her plate other than having to trudge through all the images linked on an Arts and Crafts thread to make sure of their appropriate content.

Oh and Ilaun, that looks like a craft check to me.

EDIT: And is the sword supposed to be clear with no fill?

Jibar

It's white,
I'll explain my style anyway,
one day, i found this really awesome little book, so here's me thinking 'hey, what a perfect little red notebook' so i buy it, and for 3 months it sits un-used. Then one day, me and my friends are sitting around doodling, so I fetch my book, and have a doodle too. Now my little red notebook has nothing but stick figures in! I decided to make them on the computer, and then i thought about this thread. history done.
I developed my own style, and now I can count myself good at some form of art.
The character there is mishobi, long story short, he just kills Ninja in half the book, armed with a gun and a sword, I made comics of him.
I'm really proud of myself for finally putting something up here ;D

well, that was just a character sketch for a class, but I guess its ok. and the "shartetroll2lg" is just a weird computer name, "sharte" came from sharteshane, an RP forum I used to be one, and I resized the 'troll' picture for the forum, and the 2lg is from imageshack because they're weird, so yea..sorry, referring to the pictures by their filenames was kinda bothering me. How did you ink those? Get the lines so perfect and solid that is? Did you do that by hand or do it on a PC? Illustrator seems the most common for that but alas, I do not have it.

Wukei
2005-06-25, 08:55 AM
It's actually hand inked. I use 03 for the face, usually, (if it's a full sized picture) and 05 for the rest of the body. 01 for the smaller features of the face, and 08 for the final outlining.

If it's multiple characters:

01 for the face, with 005 for the smaller features. still 05 for the body but with 05 also for the outlining.

If you're an artist, you understood all that, if you're just starting out:

Those are pen sizes. You can pick them up at Hobby Lobby or Michaels (though I'd suggest hobby lobby, it's less expensive.) My favourite are the ZIG Millenium pens, though I picked up some called Pigma Micron from michaels, and I guess they're okay.

Axelgear
2005-06-25, 04:13 PM
Hmm... I use 0.2 usually to get the best outline possible. Just haven't had time to try them.

Please inform me if you do not wish for your artwork to be offered on the Wukei colouring book. There are pieces that I'm doing right now (as fan art to Rich) that will not be displayed on the colouring book due to copyright.

Those that ask for the pictures may have them to colour, but may not display them on any other website. This is a legal issue.

Hmm...I didn't mention this on the other thread you posted this on, but the contrast is a little startling between Zz'dtri and the rest. Because You didn't color anyone else's skin, and you colored his/hers. I know the drow skin is important, but it just seems a bit odd.

Wukei
2005-06-28, 09:12 PM
the complete inversion in the colour of their skin is what makes drow so stunning. It actually favours the picture, as long as you think about the fact that drow are supposed to be more stunning than "normal" races.

I'll come back in a few days and remove the image in this post so people with a slow connection can still enjoy this topic. Enjoy this picture here while it lasts. :)

Wukei: it's excellent. :) Zz'dtri is indeed striking, but I don't think it detracts from the rest of the picture. Perhaps if someone coloured it...? *hopeful look around* My only criticism is that Thog's 'heavyset' brow looks a little too swollen.

SJ: I reall like it -- is the playing card look intentional? Again, if I had to make a criticism, it's that the lower person's left arm looks stubby. The foreshortening doesn't seem to quite work.

It's partially intentional. I got the idea when looking at some card designs someone else made. When the artist block hits, I need something different to try to get rid of it. It worked this time. :)

The foreshortening didn't work as well as some other things. Can't and won't change it now, but I'll remember it when working on something else.
Thanks for the comment.

@ Wukei: I think the darker lines in Nale's chain balance out the heavy presence of Zz'dtri's skin, so I wouldn't worry too much about it, if I were you. It's a nice picture of the LG.

I have a picture request. It is a character sketch for my Star Wars RPG campaign. [if Star Wars is out of your area of expertise, please ignore this request] The character is a Duros Starship Ace. There will be ample pictures available on any image search for Duros. He has a cybernetic (left) eye, which woul ideally have a targeting reticule on it. Also, a cybernetic (left) leg (the whole leg). And a cybernetic left arm from the elbow down. As far as clothes/equipment, some star wars-y clothes, a jumpsuit of some kind would be best, I think. And a blaster or hand tool in one hand.

This is a piece in progress. On a forum called Gaia Online I run a "pet shop" where I match up people to fey folk from Tir Nan Og to be their caretakers and they roleplay them. These two are the King and Queen of the Sun Court Fey in my "story" for lack of a better word, Cervus and Lilium (Stag and Lily totems respectively). This picture is a gift for Lilium's player (I run Cervus as an NPC) to celebrate their coming heir. I've a long way to go on it, but this is a new painting style for me in Photoshop. I read a spectacular tutorial by a Deviant Art user on painting from dark to light rather than my usual laying down of a mid tone then shading and highlighting after.

Hail, there. I was just going to request a picture over in the character sketch thread and spotted your call for PM's instead so, I would be more than appreciative if you could sketch, cartoon style the following character:

A Five foot four angel-like figure wearing a flowing blue cloak that reaches to the top edge of his leather boots, his wings spread out from the slits in the back of said cloak but not to full wing span, just enough so that they can be seen. The cloak is fastened at his neck with a round broch made from tough animal hide with a single round red jewel in the center. His hand lays on the hilt of the sheath scimitar on his belt which edge can be seen, the rest concealed by his partially closed cloak. On his wrists he wears heavy metal bracers, akin perhaps more to the gauntlets Boromir bore in the lord of the rings if you are famaliar and in his opposite hand he bears a large round silver shield, with something of an inner ring towards the middle like mirror.

His hair is parted on the left side (when looking directly at him) and "waves" off in both direction, his sideburns something of an Elvis cut if a little more loose.

I realize that is a rather long request but I have had a great deal of time to think of Manave and would be thrilled to finally have more than one of my badly drawn doodle's of him.

Thanks.

Hope this is close, buddy:

Of course, it depends on the size and complexity of the drawing. Something like Veera's...

...only takes about 10 minutes to draw and 15 to ink. (Don't think I'm cheap, she wanted it simple.)

...took me about 3 hours. And that was just the pencilling.

All in all, I'm told that I do things quickly, but I could always stand to do them quicker, because I'm waaayyy behind on my novel and helping edit other people's stuff.

Of course, my comic takes priority over all, so don't worry, the comic will be up on time. (Speaking of which, I probably should write some more scripts for that before I don't have anything to make a comic with...)

Though it's not perfect (I always hate when the skin tone is in the eyes) at least you enjoyed colouring it, right? That's what the colouring pages are there for.

Ilaun_Undil
2005-07-01, 08:41 AM
I didn't think I put skin tone in the eyes, but then agian, I was using paint. I'm guessing that is the reason all the colors continuously blur together. Another thing, Is how hard it is to find good skin tones, or any colors for that matter. oh well the only thing that bothers me now, is the fact that the human fighter dude looks like he got teleported from a 70's disco.
And if you are wondering, the red boots are red dragon leather, or at least what I think that red dragon leather would look like.

The weave took me only a few hours. I've made a lot of weave patterns I can pick from when making a picture. With just a few rules to follow, it's really easy to do. Looking for reference pictures did consume some time, though.

Malachi! You shortened your name! But, yea, I have been super busy and unable to post new pictures. I went to the doctor today, and I won't be able to give the thread the attention it deserves for a while when I have the back surgery.

I'll try to find a way to scan things, though. Perhaps I'll force my slaves ask my friends to do it, as a favour.

Malachi, the Lich King
2005-07-07, 01:28 PM
Yes, I decided to drop down to just "Malachi".

Sorry to hear about you needing back surgery. Getting knocked out of commission for any length of time for any reason just stinks IMO.

However, while you're updates will be missed, what I was lamenting was that too few people are putting their non-OotS inspired artwork up on this thread. Do we really have so few budding/fully-bloomed artists out there?

Wukei

Actually, OotS inspired stuff may go on the other arts and crafts thread in Comics. So people tend to ignore this one completely.

People do comment on pictures. Too bad I haven't finished my set of 3 for the OotS groups. (And it was supposed to be Xykon and his group.) I'll get to it eventually, but I'm working on my own site (www.life-for-death.com) and trying to work on a contest on this board, and writing a novel, and I have to actually draw the comics and ink them for my website...sleep? what's sleep?

(However, I am taking it easy so I don't have a nervous brakedown. Listening to my Wicked soundtrack works to calm me, too.)

I'll place a direct link (http://artattack.to/display.php?art=1000019053) to my latest baby instead of posting a picture here to spare those with a modest connection. (No I'm not trying to lure you to my online gallery hoping you'll look at all the other stuff I have there.)

alrighty time for another successful skill check, yeay.
This is the second Dice bag that I have created to date, and is the one I'm selling to JollyRancher. once again it is made from copper and brass(a nice look to the combination) This time I made a copper background with a chriscross pattern up the front by the brass. it is rather difficult to see I admit, but then again I have a stinky camera with my lack of experience. well I hope everyone likes it. if not, it is rather pointless to keep making them.

I've made a lot of stuff with chain rings (mostly jewellery (http://www.theravensnest.biz/board/album_page.php?pic_id=138) and chain mail shirts), but I've never thought of making something like a dice bag, which should have been on my mind, because I keep losing my dice.

Ilaun_Ondil, your bag looks nice. How do you close it to keep the dice inside?

Ooh, pretty shiney! I like the one with the blue stones a lot ;D

Ilaun_Undil
2005-07-09, 09:31 PM
Right now I just use the force of gravity to keep my dice in. I bought some rope and wound it though the top and tried to tie it like cloth bags, but it doesn't really keep it closed. I'm actually planning on seeing if weaving it through the rings will help or just get in the way. The people who are actually good at this know how to taper one end so it is closable, but I'll figure it out eventually. also the bottom I just combine with rings, that it actually looks natural enough. With the size of the rings and how I close off the bottom, (a process that would probably take me a while to explain properly) I am able to keep regular sized dice very convienently. I expect that that size of dice bag can probably hold up to 4 sets of regular dice. so unless your a DM or have really bad luck with dice, you probably dont' need anything bigger. My first one that I made(see pic in sig) is one pound, and probably be big enough for any DM, in fact I find that I probably could have fit about a pound of dice into there. and is waayyy to big for me right now. another thing I love is how the copper fades into a nice antique color. it really blends together nicely. I just wish I could get a really good photo of it.
ohh btw the blue stones are just regular dice. they did show up nice in the photo though. Anyway as this is probably my longest post I ever wrote I'll wrap it up. Thanks for the compliments ;D

Like an idiot, I saw the "[Submit] Artwork" thread in the Community World-building section before I actually checked out the rest of the board. So I took the liberty of saving the Mods some effort and just posted the original post here, and left the apology up in the "[Submit] Artwork" thread. Sorry for all the trouble, hope you enjoy.

Though there had always been a feeling, there in the mountains, that we were not alone. We could not doubt that various Greyman tribes lived in the area, nor could we question the semi-intelligent creatures that followed at a safe distance (though we wondered, 'safe for whom?') over the broken terrain. But between us we sensed that, though the Naephons were said to be devoid of any great nation, there was something lurking on one of the jagged spires of that unholy crag. I am sad to say that even though we felt it, the low clouds and opaque shimmers of subterranean heat caught in winter's chill made it impossible for us to see over great distances. No one spoke, but we all felt it, to some degree or another.

After 4 days along the south face, we came to what the cartographers called the Vale of Grey, the tiny stream that would eventually flow into Evantide as the Great Grey River wound silently below. We had come at last to our destination and plotted what to do next. It was an uneasy night, deciding what course to take next... The sporadic rumbling of the earth, with us for days, was now nearly ignored. If only we had considered omens beyond our own, we might have seen the far north, glowing with a blood-colored rage.

Just before dawn, with the clouds and mist so thick around us that we could not see beyond the edge of our camp, a great thundering roar echoed across the dale, and we awoke to a trembling earth and a splintering cry over the air. We gathered our things and moved quickly over the uneven stone slopes, north through the Vale until at last we rose above the mists and caught sight of the eruption.

http://home.comcast.net/~retrogames/dirtyerupt.jpg

We watched as the stone and fire heaved and collapsed into itself, as the light of dawn was outlit by the firy plume. At first we did not see it, but soon Aless caught sight of the Tower, faint lights and construction leaning to and fro as the great mountain destroyed itself. The river of fire made it's way slowly to us, down the vale, rolling over the small stream with a hiss that cried out to us from below. Had we considered our safety, we might have panicked at the thought of being trapped on this tiny thrust of stone. But we did not. We stood in awe at the destructive power of the earth, and all of us felt within that the Ocean, in Her glory, had kept such sights from us. If this was the stone, what was the Sea capable of? The thought would haunt me to this day, save that I have seen it personally.

All at once, a great beacon lit upon the tower, and a ray of light shot forth into the air, brilliant and blue against the deep red and grey of the explosion around it. Aless, from off to my Right, sat quietly on the ground contemplating. At last, she spoke;

"... Amaran was there..." and she said no more.

Erm... sorry... I tend to tell stories as I draw these things, so it kind of comes out, especially in this type of Environment. Anyways, here's some less-talkative stuff, some of it is kind of old though. I won't image link because there's a lot of them. ;D

It threw me for a little bit also, but it's most definetly digitally colored, though with a very nice use of either filter settings or the smudge tool.

What gives it away is the line width of the knight's shadow; it's too uniform to be anything but a paintbrush tool. But still very nice, all of my colored line art comes out looking very sloppy.

Welcome to the Arts & Crafts version 2.0, arranged for Friendly Banter, snow_cheetah!

There's no true RULE about putting the image into a link after 3 days, but for those that don't have DSL or cable, it's much nicer.

I made an undersketch, which I'm pretty sure is still visible in a few places. Then I went over it with a normal round digital brush once, then again at ~20% opacity with different colors, repeatedly. Shadows always give me trouble when I'm not using ink, so I get frustrated and stop. :P

hi hi

I had the idea for a weapon (http://www.public.iastate.edu/~knhauber/cbteams.jpg) that would essentially be a very large crossbow, without reaching ballista size. In theory, it would take a couple people to use it (or one person if it was propped and took longer to reload) but it would be battlefield portable. Gnomes and Halflings came to mind when I invisioned it, as a way for the smaller armies to stand up to larger foes.

I am artistically challenged. Its not the lack of vision, but rather my inability to make stuff that I envision. Whatever I try to make requires captions so I know what it is. My outlet for art is stuff other people create.

I saw this anime recently called Bleach, its real similar to Life for Death.

I doubt its that bad. If you convince yourself that you're bad, well, then, you're probably going to be bad. Convince yourself that you've just got to practice more. Like anything else it takes time to get good but you can get much better if you put the time into it.

One thing I find is you have to find your own corner of Arts. I've got my chainmail. Which even though being rather easy, takes quite a bit of planning and stragedy to make it come out nice. I don't have the steady hand to draw a nice pic, nor do I really have the time nor energy to figure out how to do computer drawings. In all honesty I'm probably the best at singing, but that is harder to share in the posts, lol. Oh well don't expect seeing me on American Idol though.

Pop goes, et al-

What kind of scenario are thinking of for the web comic? I'm guessing its anthro'ed animals from your sample. Just trying to get a frame of reference for what you're trying to do.

I noticed the really tiny fang there. I would think you'd be better served either making it at least big enough to make it a distinct characteristic or drop it altogether. The simpler the character, the more each line of the drawing defines them.

Pop Goes the Weasel
2005-07-21, 08:49 PM
I fixed the fang. And yeah, it is anthro animals. The comic is probably going to be based on my (failed) attempts to make my computer do anything and start a fun and serious D&D game.

I wouldn't say Viking helms were unadorned but they certainly didn't load up on protrusions that would make nice targets for the enemy to swing at. Any such helm would have been ceremonial at best. Also, this misrepresentation comes well before Disney.

EDIT:Marvel comics depicting Thor with wings on the sides of his helm doesn't help either.

You know, I find it really sad that nobody critiques peoples pictures here anymore...that's really what this thread is all about.

Now, me, personally, I do commissions now, so I won't be able to post as much work anymore, because I'm working on more complicated things, but for others that post their work here, they're looking for criticism.

Please, if you check out this thread, give some people some "good job" pat on the backs or at least a critique or two to let us know this thread isn't being wasted!

Malachi, the Lich King
2005-08-09, 09:21 AM
This is one of the very few threads that I've marked to be notified of replies to so I will state again that if you post stuff here, at least one person is checking in to see it.

Now, as far as giving critiques, because of the lack of 'tone of voice' in forum postings, in the past my critiques have come across as very harsh when I didn't mean them to be so I tend to refrain from saying anything.

I will, however, make one general comment that is sort of a pet peeve of mine. Backgrounds. People don't seem to like to put their figures in any sort of cohesive environment. I'd like to see people trying more to ground their figures in space with some recognizable objects around them to give some sort of scale as well. Hell, even my avatar has a stone wall behind him. Start simple and go from there.

Plenty of detail on the vamps...very nicely done. Hey, Malachi, his scarecrow has a background ^.~

Malachi, the Lich King
2005-08-11, 10:46 AM
Wukei, if you read my 'definition' of background, the design behind the scarecrow does not count. A cornfield behind the scarecrow is a background. You can splash loud colour behind your figures to be expressive and heighten the emotional content of the work or you can splash loud colour behind your figures because you're lazy and don't want to draw anything but the figure.

Now, in this particular instance I think the jagged 'tics' of color behind the scarecrow work fine and I would classify the piece in the first category. It seems to be trying to evoke a pure raw emotional response a la Munch's "The Scream". Though, as a note, even Munch's piece was set on a bridge by the water.

Backgrounds give the work context. Bodies floating out in white space are 'figure studies' and not truly finished pieces. I've been seeing mostly figure studies on this thread and I'm trying to convince people that this stuff is important to learn if you want to be an artist and that you should stretch yourself to get better.

I like them, your command of the pencil and shading are great.

Your musculature could use a little refining, but it's not bad. Proportions seem a bit off on a couple of them, but not all.

It seems that you could play around a bit more with the light and shadow aspect, possibly making some of the special effects a bit more dramatic.

Structure looks good, and the faces are great.

This may seem like a negative comment, but I hope you don't see it that way, overall the drawings are very good. Better than mine in more than one way.

Heh, not a lot of reason to post to one of those gallery sites when you've got your own website I guess. Still, you've got a goodly amount of stuff on photobucket. If you don't mind me saying something, the colors are good, but you might want to add some highlights from the fire. It would give it a warmer look (maybe not what you're going for), but that may be why it seems off. Some highlights on the dress and perhaps a few touches on the backgound creatures. It still looks good as it is though.

What Silverbolt said plus add a little more of a bluish glow along the back of the main figure's head and along the shoulders. That added to orange highlights on the front of the main figure should help it pop better. Good start, now just bring it on home ;)

Odd composition to this piece. The two faces [using the term loosely] are both falling off the page and there is nothing else of interest in the piece to look at really. A little smaller on the figure size and bring them in more towards the center of the composition. The jist of the piece is the relationship between the two faces so you want them more towards the middle.

Well, I hate to say it Old_El_Paso, but the perspective is off considerably. The shading on the dragon could use some refinement. It's also interesting that there are different kinds of shading from the Dragon and the Man, hatching and smooth textures are difficult to mix.

The Dragon is nicely creative though, and the use of the tongue overlapping the human body has potential. The strong use of dark on the body takes away from the Dragon a bit, if the dragon's whole head were overlapping the body it'd make for good contrast and let it stand out a bit more.

I like how the darkness extends to the eyes and gives a sense of the human's personality. Unfortunately the focus of the picture seems split to me, the heavy use of darks on the left side and the exotic features on the right, it's usually better to have a central focus.

Hope that helps some. Keep cracking, humans are always hard to draw and dragons can be either easier or harder. You probably don't care to hear the "keep practicing" speech, but progression is slow and often hard to see.

I'm sorry, you are right!!! ^_^

:) the Cesare Ripa's allegory of FIRE says:
"Woman which whit both hands hold a nice vase full of fire, and on one side there is a salamander surrounded by flames and on the other side a phoenix surrounded by flames too, and over them all a shining sun."

Did you like my drawing, now you know what it means? ::)

here it is my totally new drawing, I finished it yesterday! It's for the calendar for my boyfriend too, and it is based on WEREWOLF: The Forsaken! :)
NB: the following drawing represent also a woman naked!!!

As for the Art Imizael you are very skilled. Though the backgrounds appear a little flat.

Not offended, I'm just thinking of people who might be at work and decide to open the link and come up with something unexpected. If this is the type of work you do, I'd stick to links with "Note: Nudes included in artwork" or something as a heads up to everyone. That's all I was getting at.

I think that basic change should work well though I'm not a moderator and really can't speak for them, I just thought it prudent to do at least that.

As for the art itself, all are nice colourful pieces and I like the art nouveau aspects to it. Very different from anything else people have posted to this thread so far. I like the Japanese piece the best. You did an excellent job of capturing the feel of classic Japanese art.

Charity

Imizael your art is really very good, much better than anything I could contrive to draw. Please do not imagine that I am in anyway qualified to criticize your wonderful drawings, flat is only my humble opinion.

The Japanese drawing, it is entirely fitting to have a flat background.

The two nudes both had fairly featureless backgrounds. This added to the emphasis of the central characters, but made them to my mind appear unassociated with the rest of the piece.

I am no kind of artist or critic, there are many here far better placed to advise you, though more use of light and shadow would add depth to my mind.

The character portrait would particularly benefit from some shadows and patchy lighting effects, the pillars appear to be bathed in light equally from all angles.

Your work shows great merit and is lovingly detailed, do not let my feeble critique discourage you in any way.

Keep up the good work

I am really grateful to you for your advices regarding the warnings for the nudes! This is a matter which never pass in my mind since the Italian forums I frequent haven't young-users or anything, and no-one never make me notice that nudes could cause problems to anyone (as in your "I-am-at-work example"!) but it IS totally a right thing to do!!! So, thank you very much :)

for the art, I'm glad you like it ^_^
The Japanese one is a drawing I have done for two friends of mine, and they have it in their new home :D I'm really proud of it, so I think I'll do other Japanese Gardens in future :)

#Charity

I am really glad you tell me you opinion, I need Advanced Critiques ;D

In the Japanese drawing the flat background was totally intended, in order to simulate the rice-paper on which the Japanese people made their drawings :)

Bu honestly, I think you're right: I have to concentrate on lights and shadows!
The problem is I draw since I was little, but I colour my drawings just since the last year! So I'm totally new on colouring ^_^°°°°

meaning of PWNAGE

It is what's known as L33T speak
Where many of the characters in a word are replaced with either numbers that look similar or letters that are adjacent on the keyboard.

It is not necessary to know this as it is used only in the most bitter irony by most members of this forum

In this case it means literally Ownage, which also is not a real word thus further confusing the issue, what he means by it is that you have been 'put in your place'.
This not being The Vorpal tribbles intention (I imagine) also raises additional questions as to its usage.

Methska given that our young friend is communicating in a language foreign to her It is bad manners to deliberately confuse her wouldn't you say?

here we use somethimes the l33t spech!
Years ago, when posting emails with some friends of mine, when we started to write with some numbers in the place of some letters we joked saying that a creature called the "metropolipopilota" was controlling our keyboards!! :)

So you see: it's just that poor Methska was controlled by evil Metropolipopilota ;)

Tribbles are cute furry little creatures that pur when stroked. They are absolutely adorable.

Unfortunately, they have one major drawback... Their entire body is devoted to two things, eating and procreation. If one should eat so much as a grain... well, have a look.

I feel I must say something, for no particular reason.

Imizael- Your work is amazing, light and shadow doesn't seem to be a problem for you, even with the color. Like anything it can be tweaked (adjusted), but that may take away some of the effect. The only thing I've noticed is with your character poses on the elf warriors.

On the one representing your D&D character, she's not portraying as much motion as I think you intended. I'd suggest adjusting the pose, arching her back a bit, make her stance a bit lower, and have the clothing and hair flow as if there were a wind. Also, the green ichor off of the blade (goblin blood?) has too close of a color match with the background, maybe outline it more or darken it. The background could've used more shadows, but it still looks good. I especially like the detail on the armor.

The other one (with the Two girls facing each other) is more subtle. The warrior girls legs seem small (even for an elf), and the pose is just a bit stiff considering the emotion I think you were trying to display.

Outside of those small things, I think your work is outstanding. Colorful and strong.

The_Vorpal_Tribble -Please tell Devinnight that he (guessing that it is in fact a "he") did and awesome job on that. The flow of water is amazingly simplified and the color scheme works very well. The only issue I'd have on it is the brick background, but it's still great.

Sorry if I seem like a jerk here since I don't have any of my own stuff up anywhere, yet I comment incessantly on other's work. If I did have my own work up it wouldn't be half as good as some of what I've seen. Someday I'll post it for all of you to see and critique for yourselves, as it is I hope I'm not offending anyone.

Silverbolt, I really thank you! Not just for the compliments, but also for the constructive critiques and the advices!
The fist drawing, the one of Imizael the bladesinger, has some "problems" with her posture, as you have noticed! This is for two reasons: the first is because I have drew her one year ago ^_^°° and she was one of my first drawings before a long long pause in drawing!
The second is that the position isn't so easy to draw, so I made some errors!
I really appreciate your advices, thank you, I'll treasure them :)
The green thing on the rapier is acid! It was an acid rapier +1 :)

for the second drawing, the one of the human and the elf.. mm.. you're right, the leg is too small! D'oh! ^_^°
But for the pose, I like it to be stiff.. you see, the elf was really evil and filled with anger, so I was trying to draw her like she was trying to not let her anger flow, and so with her muscles very contracted!
and so, she is stiff!

Thank you again for your precious advices, I ask to you please for when I post other drawings can you comment them? :) It would really please me!
thank you! :)

You're certainly welcome, I'm glad you've taken the advice so well. I still wish that I could show you some of my stuff so you could do the same for me. I actually like reviewing peoples art to a degree, it helps me see what's missing in my own work.

It's great for people to share tips in my opinion, helping to strengthen each other's abilities. I often get advice from my non-artist friends as well.

I will add that in my own experience I've noticed how little things can make a huge impact, for instance, emotions can be expressed with a simple turn of the eyebrows. I don't think I'll ever fully learn to get my exact visions onto paper, but every day gets me a bit closer, a journey I hope to never finish.

I can't understand a thing: why can't you post your stuff?

Well, as far as I understand it, it has to be linked from another site. I don't have much of my work on the computer, and I'm not sure about where a good place is to upload them. If anyone has a recommendation that'd be great. I'll be able to afford a scanner on my next paycheck though, that'll help a lot.

Those last Two you posted are awesome Imizael, I would't say the First One really needs a background, you could probably just kind of frame it with a light blue shading all around, but it looks good as is. The feathers on the left wing seem a bit thinned out, I'd have maybe expanded it to the edge of the paper a bit more. The coloring on the second one has a nice cool effect, if you were to make a third using all warmer colors you'd have a great Three piece set.

Ray53208, First, I'd like to commend you on your use of light and shadow, you seem to have a good grasp on that and your control of the pencil is well developed. The only problems I've noticed are the same problems every artist faces at some point. First is anatomy, which some of your pieces are fine on, I'm gonna hazard a guess and say that you've already worked on that one. The other is proportions, some heads are too big, some too small, same with legs and various other things. Some of what helped me is doing thumbnails and 1 minute sketches, later I progressed to doing a light quick underdrawing which I still do to this day. The underdrawings are done very lightly and can be as simple as stick figures, I use blocks and circles for poses and draw through them as well (i.e. I'll draw the arm that's behind a guy even though it may never show up when I'm finished). That also helps with the composition. Hope that helps you.

Thank you guys,

Hmm, I wonder if it's the left arm, the lower part of it is a bit too long. Also, if you look at the stomach, the abdominal muscles aren't twisted right. The lack of shading doesn't really help it, I could've used more muscle definition and detail, especially on the eyes. Something is definately off on the Right leg, but I can't peg it.

Oh well, I'm glad to finally have other artists commenting on my work, it's been a while since I had that kind of feedback.
