I've been feeling a bit guilty taking over the Personal Avatar thread, so I'm packing up shop and moving over to a clean new post. ^_^

If you have any OotS fan art, avatars, comics or the like, please feel free to post it here and show it off!

I'll be sticking my little drawings here, which include characters and NPCs from my own roleplaying games, as well as a few short comics and other miscellaneous things... To get the show started, here are all the stick figures, as well as the one-strip comics I've drawn so far.

Now finally, about requests: I love taking requests, but unfortunately, I've had to lay down a few ground rules, because I am getting *overwhelmed.*

First, you need at least fifty posts, and you need to have been active here at the Giant boards for a couple weeks. I hate to be unfair to new members here, since I think getting new people is great, but I've had a few people take advantage of me, and a *lot* of people have requested avatars and then disappeared. So... Stay active, wait a while, then ask. :-)

If you've met those conditions, you have to PM me your request. I won't do the request if it is just posted here in this thread, although I *will* post your avatar in this thread when it is finished.

When making your request, send me the following details: race, skin color, hair style, hair color, clothing type, clothing color, weaponry/accessories/magic, facial expression, and pose. If you want changes to your request later, just ask: I won't move you to the back of the line, as long as they're simple changes.
If you don't send me all this information, I either won't put you in the queue, or I'll just fill in the information myself, which could mean you'll receive an avatar you might not like...

Finally, please stick with humanoids! These are easy for me to do, and only take a short time for me to make. If you request a non-humanoid creature, I can't promise that I'll take your request, and if I do, it'll be at the bottom of my priority list.
Same thing with really complicated requests: if you request something with a *ridiculous* amount of details, I may refuse the request, or I'll probably dumb it down. A lot of things people request simply don't work in stick figure form. Remember, these things are simple!

I'm sorry for this long list of hoops for everyone to jump through for an avatar, but to keep the line moving, and keep myself sane, it's necessary. If you still want to request, just send me a PM!

This is drawn in the likeness of what I was wearing at work today (NOTE: I will never wear shorts! Ever!... I'm just following the art style). I am very proud of my new OotS art. PSP works just about as well as Photoshop Illustrator if you know how to use it.

Oh, and Veera, I love the one-panel comics! Keep 'em comin'! (Yeah, yeah, yeah... I've said it before, I know. I just enjoy getting an OotSesque fill each day, and you do great work.)

Mardi Gras girl rocks!!!! I had a stupid question. Are other people allowed to use one of the avatars posted here, or is that frowned upon? Also, if I'm playing an Elf in an Eberron setting. I'd love it is if someone could make an avatar for me of him. He's a wizard, with a skull tatoo over the left half of his face. It the hole undying court thing, which would take too long to explain. Well, most of the stick figures I've made are either avatars specifically requested by people, are characters of my players, or are specially for myself to use.
If you want to use any of mine, you'd have to ask. I don't mind if you use any of the NPCs, but for the others I'd need to get permission from the people I made the avvies for. As for the other artists' figures, that's up to them. :-)

As for the elf you requested, I'll get right on that. I'd just need to know a few things like skin color, hair color, clothing type, clothing color, hairstyle, and expression you'd like. You know. What he *looks* like ;D

we have a halfling pirate (pregnant :-/ )
a lawful stupid monk (needed DM intervention to keep from putting on some boots of devouring in a magic shop)
our psion kinetisist (inhabiting his psi crystal due to a near-death experience)
and the party leader, a cleric (me)

VISUAL DETAILS!!!!!
(i only have my character's information at this point)

The cleric:
human, average height, average weight, male.
black eyes(actually black, not bruised), red hair, white skin.
Amulet with Pelor's symbol on it
Main weapon is a mundane Warhammer.
Wears ChainMail, which is jet black (dont know all the magical properties yet :/ )
no helmet, standard cleric garb
Last but not least, a Torch with permananced Daylight cast on it :D

Well, most of the stick figures I've made are either avatars specifically requested by people, are characters of my players, or are specially for myself to use.
If you want to use any of mine, you'd have to ask. I don't mind if you use any of the NPCs, but for the others I'd need to get permission from the people I made the avvies for. As for the other artists' figures, that's up to them. :-)

As for the elf you requested, I'll get right on that. I'd just need to know a few things like skin color, hair color, clothing type, clothing color, hairstyle, and expression you'd like. You know. What he *looks* like ;D

You know, it helps to read the whole message, like I didn't. DuH. Stupid elf, me. Well, he looks like an elf, pale skin tone, green eyes, black hair, pointy ears. Did I mention the tatoo over the left side of his face making it look like a skull (it's a undying court thingy)? Probably blue robe (wizard), or some snazzy explorer wear that has a wizard vibe to it. Okay, I have no idea about that last part. Robes are easier I think. Medium height, but kinda thin. He's spent way too much to at school studying magic, not playing sports. Generally, he frowns alot because he's surrounded by what he thinks are inferiors (humans, warforged, dwaves.) They tend to just annoy him because they don't see the "long term" picture, in his eyes. No quarterstaff, but has a handy longsword that's probably never been out of it's sheath. As a matter of fact, The only things I've use are a composite short bow, and my favorite Magic Missle wand. You can't go wrong with magic missle, although orb of acid is more fun! That's all I can think of. Thanks. You are still the best!

P.S. Oh, yeah, he did almost stab a darkmantle with his dagger, but the warforge went all ape-s**t on it first with his fist and a natural 20. There wasn't enough left to skin even.

Wasn't sure what hairstyle you wanted, so I gave him dreads. Stuck in a wand of magic missile and spellbook for good measure. Gave him a toothy grin, since it emphasizes the skull-like side of his face. Hope you like! ^_^

And while we're at it, here's the one you requested Gnome. Since I didn't know what hair you wanted, I just made him bald. Heh.

Lilly: If you're using Illustrator, try using 2 PT lines. If you're using some other program, only advice I can give is to try using thicker lines, and making the figure larger.

Finally, forgive me for the long turnaround on making avatars. I don't get much time to work on them, so anyone else with requests, thanks for waiting, I'll get them to you as soon as I can. ^_^

Hey, if anyone is bored/interested, I have an avatar request. My character is a grey elf spellsinger (from the Kingdoms of Kalamar campaign setting), so she is a spellcaster but doesn't use a spellbook or material components. Skin has a golden tone to it, and her hair is wavy blonde. She generally wears blue mage's robes and has a ferret familiar (although familiar is optional as I realize it could be quite difficult to draw).

Well Adghar, I do have a large backlog at the moment, and your avatar request is... Well. Garish, for one. Nearly impossible to make in stick figure form and actually look good for two. So you'll have to forgive me if I take care of the easier requests first. Sorry. ^_^;
Also, when I do make your avatar, it is going to be in the same style as the rest of the stick figures I've made, so don't expect a whole bunch of weird frills and gilding, or funky glowy stuff or an arsenal of magic items. It'd just look ridiculous and crowded on a stick figure: I'll do the best I can, but I'll have to take some liberties.

Adghar, I tried most of what you wanted, but... Well. Bracers looked terrible, as well as the amulet and rings and such. Just did the headband. The 'glow' looked silly, especially since the background changes depending on the post.

And the comic is yet another strange event in my players' DnD game.

You can try GifCon from Alchemy Mindworks.http://www.mindworkshop.com/ I usually just use the wizard to compile the images(usually screen-captures from an emulator, to make animated gifs) An example http://Sliver_Queen.tripod.com/images/anhel1.gif(Note that you will have to go to the base site first, then paste the URL into the address bar, due to Tripod not allowing remote linkage.

I drew a basic bipedal turtle in Paint, dunno if that's what you want. Unfortunately, I can't draw a lantern to save my life. Wouldn't be too hard to flash the light of course, just alternate 2 frames of animation, with some delay between the alternations(otherwise, the flickering might trigger epilepsy, I think)

Edit: Okay, I went to your website, and took the image from there. I was almost done with the halo of light around the lantern, but my MS Paint had to close from illegal operations. I'll finish it up in the morning.

When I accidentally tried to save a .gif with layers (using gimp) it asked me if I wanted to flatten it, or make it into an animation.. (of course, I wanted to remove a layer completely.. :P)

It'll show up again after a while, but with the Nausicaä manga and DVD having just come out, I'm in fan heaven at the moment. Thus, I wanted to get an avatar of my favorite fictional character of all time.

Nausicaä, by the way, is the main character from Hayao Miyazaki's (best known for Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke in the US) first feature length film that he wrote and directed. The full English title is Nausicaä of the Valley of Wind (Japanese: Kaze no Tani no Naushika); Viz just put out a fantastic new collection of English translations for the manga, and Disney just released the American version of the DVD (the dub is actually quite good - it has Uma Thurmon, Mark Hamill, Patrick Stewart, and Edward James Olmos doing voices), which does include the original Japanese language track and, in keeping with the deal between Disney and Ghibli (the studio Miyazaki works for), is unchanged from the original version. It's a fantastic film, and the manga is even better. I heartily recommend it.

I have a request, but I am quite sure that it will be very difficult to actually do. Might I perhaps have a Yakfolk Druid. He has a quarterstaff, brown robes, and long, black fur all over. In addition, his animal companion is a Dire Yak (I really don't mind if it doesn't make it). I know that the black fur will make it very difficult, seeing how that is the color of the outlines and all, so I don't even know if it is doable.

I think someone mentioned that you should do a Drizzt avatar. I think that would be a great idea, especially if you could fit Guenhwyvar in there too. Other famous characters like Elminster or Artemis would be a nice addition as well. You could do some from the Ebberon setting as well, although I am not as familiar with that as I am with FR. Perhaps make a warforged one as someone had suggested, I'm sure that would look cool.

If you really need more to make, make me a "LOL Archer"... Robin Hood style ranger with green clothes and a hat with a quiver and LOLs with arrows through them in the quiver. If you don't want the work then you can skip this, though.

I'm not sure how well the word-swords turned out -- overlaying them on actual blades might have looked better (I also considered having them narrow to points but I'm fairly sure that would look bad, nigh on unreadable at worst). But eh, I'm tired, I can always try adjusting it later. I was more worried about the hood... I ended up posing in my rain jacket to see what I was doing wrong. ;D

See, I noticed that the normal board avatars aren't generally complete squares (117x117). But offsite avatars have to be or they get stretched to fit. I tried this once before, then went and forgot that I'd done so -- and wondered why I'd padded all my avatars so far. And so then I didn't pad this one. Oops!

I'm no expert, but couldn't you download the image to your computer, edit the image, and then upload it again? I don't think you could fix the lines without redrawing it (alghouth I think they look fine), but you could erase and redo the owl and add the elf ears.

Oh, I didn't delete the image, I deleted the original vector drawing, the one that the image was made from. Of course I can still get at that image there, but that's all that's left of the drawing now, and it's monumentally harder to tweak that than it is to tweak the original. It's like editing a photo because you accidentally destroyed the original object. :(

OK, so I've attempted avatar-making on paint now, and... well... I think I'm going to leave it up to the pros.

Could someone make me an avatar based on one of the PbP characters in my sig? Adelchis is a male elf, like the name Tharivol, so I slightly prefer him, but Rakine is probably much easier to draw, and having either would be fantastic.

Adelchis d'Phiarlan is an male elf rogue. He has bright green eyes and long brown hair tied behind his head in a ponytail. He wears studded leather armor with the symbol of House Phiarlan on it (the image is huge, so a link instead (http://wizards.com/dnd/images/eb_gallery/82928.jpg)), but it's a small monochromatic image even full-sized, so it should probably just be a slightly darker-colored spot on his chest. He wears a traveling cloak of a darker color than his armor with the hood off. He carries a rapier on his belt, but his primary weapon is his crossbow, so he would be holding that casually at his side in his right hand. For a facial expression, a friendly smile would probably be best.

Rakine is a female human warmage. She has green eyes and long black hair worn loosely. There aren't many special details to her. She wears simple leather armor with nothing special about it and would have heavy boots like Haley's or Roy's. She likes fighting, so she would have her mace in her right hand and spell energy in her left. Alright, I had someone ask me about this, so here's my priority list when making avatars.

1. I will make avatars first for people who PM me their request.
2. Simple requests, such as humans, elves, gnomes wearing regular clothing.
3. Avatars for people with more than 50 posts are next: I've had too many new people to the forums request an avatar, then disappear.
4. Avatars for people with fewer than 50 posts are after this.
5. Difficult requests: if you request some strange race, or weird mutant tapdancing objects, or a character wearing about 80 bajillion items, I may push it to the back of the queue. That way, I don't stall the entire waiting list as they wait for me to finish the request.
6. First come, first serve. After looking at all the options above and sorting things accordingly, only *then* will I sort things by first come, first serve.
7. Finally, *if* my queue is empty, I'll make avatars for people who request them in this thread without PM'ing me.

Basically, if your request has characteristics 1, 2, or 3, then you'll get your avatar quickly. If it is 4, 5, or 7, then it may take a bit more time (or a lot more time, if my queue is long.)

Also, if you request an avatar, I need the following information: race, skin color, hair style, hair color, clothing type, clothing color, weaponry/accessories/magic, facial expression, and pose. If I don't receive this information, I won't place your request in the queue. If you want changes to your request later, just ask: I won't move you to the back of the line, as long as they're simple changes.

I hope this clears everything up! When you get more than a dozen requests like I have right now, I need to start laying some ground rules. ^_^

I have just recognized this thread. I'd love to have a custom avatar, a gobbo one... I already tried to do it myself, with the Adobe Illustrator, because I read that Rich uses that one, but I failed terribly, one 1 after the other.

I'd like to have a goblin girl, with shoulder-long red hair and large green ears (a bit like the night-elves in warcraft 3, just in green). She should wear boots, of course,like the one my avatar has now, wearing a miniskirt and a leather armor or so, but with a great cleavage ;) I'd like it if she would try to look cute, maybe carrying a dagger or something like that, and waving at the spectator or giving him a flower or something like that =)

Ok, so im jumpin on the Custom Avatar bandwagon. I've been fiddleing with GIMP for a while and thought i'd give it a go. Question... How do you guys keep the lines so clean when you convert it to GIf? I tried PNG, my size was 96x96... im not sure what i'm doing wrong. It looks great (for a first time, at least to me) before i do any exporting... any help would be mucho appreciated :)

Illustrator makes the lines smooth automatically, I don't know anything about GIMP.

Draw everything BIG. Double the intended size is about right. It saves on zooming and it means that when you save a final, resized version, it all looks smoother. (Assuming you use a decent resizer. The GIMP should be fine. I use Irfanview for all my resizing and format conversions.)

You take the pic, drag it to the place where you type in the URL, copy the URL, then paste it in the space in your profile where it asks if you have your own avatar, and check the box next to it. I'm not sure if this works for all browsers, but I use Safari and that's how I do it.

The way it was explained to me, way back when (page 3 or 4) was that you right click the picture and choose Properties. In the properties screen, there is a url address. What I did was highlight the address and copied it. You could just write it down to type it again, but I'm lazy, so no. Then you go to your profile/modify profile whatever, and there is what sneak was talking about. Paste the address, and click the Use my own avatar, whatever. Hey, I'm not looking at it right now, so phewy. Then, of course, click Save Changes. That SHOULD work. If I'm wrong, I'm sure somebody will be happy to post and correct my error.

Those are my past few avatars, some of the deities of my current campaign (LG,LG,NG,NG,CG), and a friend of mine. That last one's pose I sorta stole from that she-goblin one. I'm such a cheat.

By the way, that little design in all of my personal avatars serve a dual pupose: emphasizing that I'm a fan of EarthBound (it's the Starman symbol), and it helps me set the dimensions for getting the avatars at the 117x117 (or 118x118/119x119) I want.
