Isn't it just the state of being absent a lot? I don't think it requires much explanation.

EDIT: Yeah, it is. From Merriam-Webster:

Main Entry:
ab·sen·tee·ism Listen to the pronunciation of absenteeism
Pronunciation: \ˌab-sən-ˈtē-ˌi-zəm\
Function: noun
Date:
1829

1: prolonged absence of an owner from his or her property
2: chronic absence (as from work or school); also : the rate of such absence

Alright, yeah, that seems like a good way of putting it. Wonder why I didn't check a dictionary....

Because the forumites will give you not only a nice concise copy-pasted definition, but smilies and cookies with it. Can you go past that for WIN?

Well I would definitely come to you guys for any pop culture reference I want answered.

For example I remember on a tv show or perhaps a web comic a guy is putting letters on a sign (like the 'now playing' outside a movie theater) and puts a 5 instead of an S. He remarks proudly to a coworker or to himself "It's a good thing I noticed the similar shapes".

So does anyone know? [/hijacks thread]

Um, its probably a reference to leet?
(Yah, we are awesome. Someone make an awesome itp banner that says, "feel free to put this in your sig."

Just curious, but why do you need to know?

And the reason for asking us, and not checking the dictionary: Because sometimes we disagree what the word means, so you get the effect of throwing one bone to several dogs.

I don't NEED to know, but I want to. I'm just so close to remembering where I saw it from that it's annoying me a little. Crazy I know, but to me it's like an itch I can't scratch.

Damn, I loved that too... I, alas, cannot remember it either.

Anybody else?
