All is quiet two thousand feet beneath the earth. Your last meal has ended, with now only the shadow of a taste remaining upon your tongue. As the food passed through your lips you tried to remember every sensation of taste and smell, holding on to the sense of awareness that let you know you were still alive. Vainly now, you cling to your memories as they pass through your mind like smoke through a net.

The footsteps of the guardsmen resonate from far down the end of the damp, dim hall, harbingers of your death. You feel your heart drop as you hear the keys jingle, and then a jailer opens your heavy oak cell door, which protests and creaks as it shifts to the side. Neither of the men speaks a word. They merely motion, and you follow. They will go home to their children and their wives, the warmth and satisfaction of the world above. You, sinner, go to your grave. It is a solemn procession, down the endless, cold stone corridor toward an iron spiral staircase.

You follow this up, recalling your forced walk down this way. How long ago could it have been? Weeks? Months? Years? Your mind can’t focus to recall. You pass floor after floor, and the stench of mildew and hopelessness begins to dissipate. You step away from the staircase down another, brighter hall. You can imagine the sun shining down upon you, so close your eyes begin to sting. You pass a series of gates, warded steel, then iron, and then oak, finally stopping at the edge of a crowd outside of a massive oak door.

There are five other prisoners here beside you, each also handcuffed, gagged, and attended by two jailers. Each is shaking, or praying, or sweating just as you are. “Armott Hold Experiment Ward,” reads a bronze plaque upon the door. The doors open and you are marched forth into a dim, round auditorium. A mechanical apparatus stands upon a stage in the center, a contraption of tubes and wires, harnessed to a generator. Six conducting wires spread out from it’s base in a semicircle, each connecting to a chair with metal bands attached to it. Further back from this stage, seated in chairs at the top of this downward sloping room, are a couple of spectators. They watch your group with interest, as children observing ants.

“Prospect 130, Test 2A, Test Group 432.” Says a voice. Behind the machine stand three purple-robed men. Wizards of the Kor Rabban, the elite magi college at Deinkos. You are strapped into one of the chairs. Your limbs are buckled down, and you feel metal arms clamp either side of your forehead. Arcane chanting from behind you sends three steady flows of electricity, coursing smoothly into the generator.. You hear static charging as the machine behind you casts brief crackling flares across the room.

The clamps on either side of your start vibrating, rapidly increasing in frequency You think you can smell burning flesh. You don’t know what to feel. You feel nothing. There is a furious burst of lightning, scorching the walls of the room. The supersonic boom as it splits is deafening. You feel your very flesh peeling from your bones with the intensity of a heat like the center of a sun. And then there is only darkness. All is quiet once more…

Each one of you opens your eyes, shuddering. Everything is a blaring white light. You smell smoke, and can hear nothing. A strange foggy noise signifies your sense of hearing returning. You hear angry shouting. “What in the Hells do you think you’re doing here, officer? This area is strictly off-limits!” screeches the scientist who spoke before.

“Sit down, Professor.” An imperative rings out, coming from the direction of the door to the room.

"Sit down? Sit down!? You have interrupted a critical test! People could have been killed thanks to your actions! I demand an explanation immediately, before I call the guards!”

“People killed in an execution? We surely wouldn’t want that…” the voice from the door replies, condescendingly.

“Are you getting smart with me, you insignificant little speck of a human?”

“Professor, I have here an order mandated directly from Archduke Tybalt himself requesting that these prisoners’ executions be detained. He wishes to speak with them.”

A rustling of paper is followed by a furious “Harrumph! Fine, get them out of here. But don’t expect to have a job when you return, Officer…?”

“Nolty, Bill Nolty. Good luck with your machine, professor.”

“Good luck finding work, officer.”

You feel the clamps around your head and limbs being loosened. The blaring white fades to a milky gray as you are pulled up and shoved forcefully forward. You are placed, once again, in handcuffs. Walking blindly, you crash into a number of other objects, most of which seem to be humanoid. You are eventually escorted arm-in-arm by jailers. You walk through this foggy haze, completely stupefied.

You wonder if you’re alive, and surmise that you are. By some miracle you have survived the electric chair, but the process has rendered you blind and nearly deaf. Lost in your thoughts, you are eventually told by the voice you now know as Nolty to sit, and you do so. You hear his footsteps receding. You know there are others in the room with you, but you can’t work out how many, or who they are, or what they want with you.

Slowly but surely, your vision returns, and you attempt to gain a bearing upon your surroundings...

Six figures are seated in a small, stone holding block. It is of the same material as the rest of the prison, but the air is fresh, so it may be above ground. A heavy oak door is the only feature of this room, with the only light source pouring in from a small barred window at the top of it.

The figures in this room each wear prisoner garments, all of which are heavily singed and torn by lightning. There are two half-elves, a warforged, a human, a dwarf, and a drow. There is nothing to do but wait and wonder about what has just happened, and what is going to happen.

((I’d like a post from each of you [in the 3rd person present tense, of course] describing your character’s physical appearance, despite the lack of equipment or clothing, and any opening remarks you wish to make.))

Carric, Half-Elf, Cleric of The Raven Queen

Carric glances around the cell, taking in the hodgepodge of people gathered. His shaggy brown hair dripping with sweat, his nearly black eyes dim from exhaustion. Looking at his right eye shows more signs of fatigue as one could see a deep black circle hanging under the eye, itself bloodshot. The left eye was surrounded by the tattoo he had gotten just over a year ago when he began traveling. The tattoo covered half of his face, in the form of the Raven Queen's symbol, the raven's eye replaced with his own. He breathes deeply as he sits down, the prison uniform is in tatters. Obviously they weren't going to give a deathrow inmate silk clothes, but could they have at least allowed some dignity? There were places where the cloth was so thin, one could see through it. One could see Carric's average, though well-muscled frame.

"Greetings. I am Carric, priest of The Raven Queen. What brings us all together today?"

Brathios, Human Fighter

Brathios sits as still as he can, barely letting his ragged breaths show through the pain. His unkempt hair has fallen in front of his eyes, and his short beard manages to frame his jaw in black. After a few moments, His breathing returns to normal, and his heavily muscled body returns to an almost eerie stillness. Shaking his head to clear his eyes, he glances at the half-elf, Reclines against the chair and speaks
I am Brathios, Though I'm unsure as to why we're still alive, let alone together

Tar-va'tyrr, Drow Rogue

Tar-va'tyrr looks up and sees the faces around him. He is rather surprised that all eyes are not glued onto him as his disguise is clearly faded after his time spent in this prison. A few light brown streaks are left in his long dull gray hair, but none are barely noticeable. One light blue contact still exists in his left eye but the other one consists of a dark red. However his skin remains as the biggest give away in his ruined disguise. Patches of tan colored skin are scattered throughout his body but it is almost completely encompassed by the black surrounding it. His lean body appears tense, as does his speech seem frightened.

I'm surprised that all these people have not already assaulted me. It does seem however that they were even worse off than I have been. I've only been here a week afterall. They don't seem to be frightened of my appearance so I should try to be friendly.

My name is Tar-va'tyrr Jys-nar, but you may call me Tar-va'tyrr or even Tar if you would like. We should all be dead now but it seems that we have actually been quite lucky today.

Quintus, Half-Elf, Star Pact Warlock

Quintus' normally silvery gray hair is blackened with soot, and his cold bluish-purple eyes are dull. Yet even in his ragged state, Quintus exudes a certain charm. He looks around wearily at the five other prisoners in the room.

"A drow", he thinks to himself, "now that is something I don't see often... and what is this, a machine in prison garb? How strange..."

To himself, "A drow..."

Of course, his main concern is not the eclectic company in this chamber, but rather the still surprising fact that he is alive. He can't imagine who would order his life be spared - his father certainly wasn't shedding a tear over his loss, and he had no friends with any power in the city. But as Quintus ponders his survival, his thoughts are interrupted - he breathes heavily, and his lungs fill with fresh air! Suddenly alert, his head picks up.

"Are we... Aboveground?"

Kranor Firesmelt, Dwarf Wizard/Cleric

"Uhh... I'm... alive...? Ioun be praised..." The Dwarf mutters to himself.

He is interested in his present company and takes a great deal of time studying their appearances and mannerisms, burning their names into his memory. He always tries to learn as much as he can from anything he can, Ioun would expect nothing less from him.

He was relatively tall for a Dwarf, but not nearly as stout and could almost be described as being of average build by Human reckoning. His Mahogany-Brown beard was short, and ragged but one could sense that it had once been immaculately well-maintained. His face, feet, and hands maintained the typical Dwarvish-gnarliness but Kranor didn't maintain the same stubborn demeanor as most of his kind. Indeed, he did not carry himself tall as a warrior, but rather bearing the slightly stooped pose of a scholar.

His eyes darted to and fro, soaking in more of the room, memorizing it. He felt the sudden urge to blow the oak door off its hinges, but he knew better. He knew what the punishment would be for unauthorized magic use. Of course, he doubted he had the strength of will to defeat the anti-magic wards.

"By Ioun's studious grace... why has our execution been forestalled? I would welcome an eternity basking in my lady's unending knowledge compared to this hell-hole..."

He glances at his fellow prisoners, taking a longer look at the Drow, but shrugging. Matters of morality were merely distractions from the acquisition of knowledge.

"Who might all of you be? I am Kranor... formerly of the Kor Rabban... And servant of Ioun."

Hymath, Warforged fighter

The colossal machine sits completely silent, and for some time the others think that it must have been destroyed in the process. It is still smoking, a large hulk of black metal, with several spiky protrusions. The face is turned down, but the others can still see his skull-carved faceplate. Then suddenly he moves.

It seems that the energy of that machine was too weak to destroy Hymath. Or even flesh things. Hymath was looking forward to his destruction. Destruction is better than waiting. We are not lucky, but unfortunate. What purpose do we have, staying here and doing nothing?

Carric listens to the others talk about defying death being given a second chance, and these statements nauseate the half-elf. He was ready for the death that was fated to him, ready to join his goddess in her unending glory. To have that stripped away from him cut like the cold steel of a fighter's sword. As the others discussed escape he spoke.

"We have but forestalled our deaths, for death comes to all things in time. I beseech of you all to not attempt anything brash or stupid. Those of you not ready for your final rest need to take the time to think things through. If this Tybalt wanted us dead, we surely would be from the execution. Nay, he wishes to speak with us, perhaps offering us what you all so desire enough to want it by force. I propose that we wait for whatever is fated to happen to happen, and not try to force our own fate, as such actions bring dire consequences." The cleric calmly states his case, hoping to convince the others to follow his plan of action.

From what you can hear, it seems like a group of armored men is hurrying in your direction.

"Well? Where are they, boy? I don't have all day!" asks a high-pitched, shrieking voice.

"Right this way, m'lord." You identify this voice as that of Bill Nolty, the jailer who had earlier prevented your deaths.

The footsteps come to a halt outside of your door. One of the guards is fumbling with a set of keys.

"Stand aside, you imbecile!"

"But my lord, it may be dangerous, these men are known convicts!"

"You there! You're in charge of these men!"

"Y-yes, my lord."

"Open this door, and then send that idiot packing!"

"Yes, my lord.

The key turns in the lock, and the door slams open to reveal nearly a score of guardsmen. A lion of a man bursts past the poor captain, knocking him onto his back.

This is the Archduke Vaughn Tybalt, the second most powerful man in all of Kest, next to King Ramos d'Ondriam himself. He has fierce green eyes, a full orange beard and long head of hair. He wears expensive red and purple robes, and his stomach juts out rudely over his pronounced gut. He is bedecked in all manner of golden jewelry, with a number of gemstones upon his rings.

"Well if this isn't a sight for sore eyes! Two half-breeds, a soulless murderer of a machine, a dogmatic dwarf who was too wise for his own good, a dumb ex-mercenary, and best of all: a drow! Scum of all Deza and everything under it! This is the group you handpicked for me, Nolty?"

"Yes, sir. They should fit your expectations nicely."

"We'll see about that. I'd like to test them first. Drop the anti-magic wards around the armory, captain. I have something in store for them." He turns his attention to the six of you. "If you don't wish to die the most excruciating death imaginable, you will comply. I need to test your combat abilities for an assignment. If you comply, prove yourselves capable here, and then successfully complete your assignment, you're free to go. Of course, there's always the rack if you don't." He grins a huge, frightening grin at all of you. "If you'd please follow me." He says sarcastically.

The large, obnoxious man leads you into a room, which you presume to be the armory. Those of you with magical abilities can feel them coursing through your veins once again. Equally wonderful, you see that your possessions have been arranged for you upon the right-hand wall of the room. There is a wheeled wooden wall separating this side of the room from the other.

"A test of combat, yes. It should prove to be no difficulty, but I have to make sure that that fool Nolty hasn't sent me a bunch of incompetent morons. Do try not to all be pathetic."

With that, Archduke Tybalt closes the door upon all of you. You hear him sending the guard away, and although the door is closed, you can feel him watching you. The wall slowly starts to slide away...

Dogmatic? Why that pompous...I will show him to disrespect my lady... but not now, not yet. Ioun would be displeased if I threw my life away needlessly, on a whim of passion. I will study my new foe, exploit his weakness. Bring him to his knees with a single, well-calculated stroke.

"Time for a bit of the game, I suppose."

Kranor sighs in relief as he once again feels attached to his magic again. Once the wards are lifted he creates a spray of small fireworks with his Prestidigitation cantrip. When in the armory, he uses Mage Hand to pick up his possessions, willing his old staff to come to his hands. He gently cradles it like a lost friend.

"My power...is back..." Kranor whispers to himself.
When the wall begins to slide open, he braces himself, preparing himself for a combat he has not had since that goblin ambush on his last mountain excursion...

"Look alive, fellows. I fear that the strings attached to our freedom have arrived...

Kranor will attempt to keep himself away from the melee, but close enough to aid his allies with his Healing Word, if necessary. He knows he only gets one use of it a day, but wants to be handy if needed.

The hobgoblin archer will move to stand behind its counterpart, firing an arrow over his soldier at the wounded warforged, who stubbornly raises himself up.. (8)

Hymath pummels the hobgoblin warrior to the floor (6). The machine seems to be in a state of euphoria, almost as if the fury of battle is keeping him moving. (+3 temp)

The two goblins at the back of the room throw their javelins at the construct, but both fall short of him.

The goblins in front stab at the mechanical monstrosity again and again, trying to bring him down. Both land successful blows, and it seems as though they succeed. (4,4) Hymath finally drops to the floor with a loud clang The goblins cheer and jitter excitedly in Goblin. ”Nyhketa shev rikriti! Rikriti!”
”The beast is dead! It’s dead!”

Brathios swings down at the prone hobgoblin, which just rolls out of the way of his sword.

Tar-va’tyrr whirls a shuriken at the same hobgoblin, just missing it as well.

That hobgoblin then leaps up and jabs at the air past Brathios’ neck.

Carric mutters a quick prayer for the fallen warforged, who regains consciousness (much to the fear and chagrin of the remaining goblins). He then rushes up to attack a goblin, but misses. ((Hymath at 14 HP))

Quintus curses one of the goblins, and then disappears. An eldritch blast flies out of the place he once stood and fells the goblin. Kill ((Curse is a minor action, and Shadow Walk is technically part of your move action, so you still have a standard action and should attack in a situation like this. With that, the Archduke grins a hideous grin and turns his back on you, leaving you to the guards.

"Follow me, please." one says. Upon complying you are led through the cold halls of the prison, down corridor after corridor. You reach the entrance hall, where a huge set of iron doors are being opened by two guards. Whether you feel nervous or thrilled, its hard to say, but you certainly are overwhelmed by emotion.

Basking in its warmth, and in the rush of fresh air from the door, you feel invigorated and alive. You look out upon the Municipal District of Deinkos. The party, whispering and talking amongst themselves, are led through the Municipal Ward, past Deladin Ward where the kingdom's nobility live in luxury, and into the beautiful Tolly Park. Created to provide the people of the city with a place for relaxation, introspection, and playful recreation, the park's lush greens, bountiful trees, and impressive flower gardens are truly a sight for your sore eyes.

You are led down cobblestone paths to a wooden building, painted brown and green. It is set into the wall that borders Tolly Park and the Market, and looks old and humble. A wooden sign hanging above the door reads "The Bederweir."

The guards hold the doors open for you, and wait for you to enter. "You have until an hour past midnight," one says. After everyone is through the door they close it behind you.

The patrons of the Bederweir are most well-dressed noblemen and upper middle class workers. Many of them have suspicious looks about them, and you sense that they may be participating in explicit activities here at the tavern. They chat amongst themselves, some turning a slant eye to your crew and shuffling away. The seats at the bar are all open at this early hour of the afternoon, and the bartender beckons you over. He is a skinny man with scraggly gray hair all over his body, except for the top of his head, which is covered by a black hat.

"Welcome to the Bederweir, I'm Jon. I've been told ye'd be comin' and to accomodate yer every need. Sincere service with a smile, at tha'." he says, with more of a snarling smirk than a smile, although he does seem genuine. "Now, what can I do for ye? A nice meal? Or perhaps-" he leans in, "-something else?"

Kranor knows what the man means by "something else" but is hardly interested in that at the moment. In fact, he has always remained too focused on his studies and service to Ioun for such distractions.

"A book. Thats what I need. It has been far too long since I have perused a tome of knowledge. Might there be a repository or library nearby?"

He turns to Carric and Quintus. "You two are welcome to accompany me."

He would invite the others, but gets the distinct impression that Brathios, Tar, and especially Hymath, would not be particularly interested in the "something else" that Kranor had in mind.

"Least one of ye isn't a complete dolt." Bederweir says, directing Tar-va'tyrr to an upstairs room where he finds everything he needs.

A few minutes later the young kitchen lad runs in panting, holding a carton of vegetable oil, some dirt from the gardens, a pebble which has been liberally dipped in water, a cookbook, a sales and records book from the Bederweir Tavern, a Brief History of Kest (a government-distributed pamphlet), and a small spyglass.

Kranor Firesmelt, Dwarf Wizard/Cleric

Knowing the History of Kest almost by heart, Kranor sighs at the offerings. Casting Mage Hand, he snatches the sales and records book from the lad and floats the text over to him. Instead of taking the book he lets the hand follow him to an isolated corner of the tavern, ordering a mug of ale from the nearest barwench.

He reads, sustaining the Mage Hand to hold the book up while he pores over the records and numbers. Occasionally he will take a sip of ale and turn a page.

Just for fun, I want to see if there are any legal (by that I mean illegal) discrepancies in the Inn's records. I don't know which check that would be so I will just roll a few and you pick the right one.

Nearly shrieking at Hymath's sudden outburst, the lad runs out of the Bederweir in pursuit of his items.

Kranor's inspection of the book reveals a number of rather questionable tax write-offs, and a huge amount of cash flow coming into the establishment under the profits from "lamb chops".

After a while, the boy returns, once again out of breath, with Hymath's desired items. As each party member takes care of their own needs and desires the building slowly begins to fill. The sun is beginning to set.

Soon the party finds themselves seated at the same table in an out-of-the-way corner of the inn. The serving wenches bring rounds of ale when you are running low, and are more than happy to comply to requests for food as well.

Carric, sipping his beverage, notices something white at the bottom of it. He drains it and finds that a circular paper has been placed between the drink and its coaster. Lifting up his mug, he reads the tiny scrawled message with a bit of difficulty. Don't follow his orders. You'll know when you see.

A number of armored men, presumable Tybalt's guards, enter the tavern. They take seats at a table in the opposite corner, but watch you intently, waiting for the late hours of night.

As the hours pass the patrons, most of whom cloak themselves heavily upon exiting, go out into the night. Soon none remain in the tavern but Jon Bederweir, your table, and Tybalt's men. You hear the wheels of a large horse-drawn carriage rolling to a halt just outside the door.

Through the window you see that it is a large, luxurious red and yellow affair, with curtains over its windows. As it stops outside the men stand. "It's time to go. You have a long trip ahead of you tomorrow and you need to be ready."

One holds open the door to the Bederweir, while the other crouches beneath the caravan and opens a trap door beneath it, through which you are to enter.

You climb into the hollow bottom of the carriage. There is enough room for you to sit up and recline, but not to stand. It is pitch dark within the carriage compartment, and it takes your eyes a while to adjust. Bedding has been placed down for each of you. In the far corner there are two sacks, one full of fur clothing, bone chains, and strange vials of dye. In the other there is five days worth of trail rations for each of you (except, of course, Hymath), three sets of playing cards, and some dice.

Despite the activity of the night, you find the bedding much more comfortable than your cold jail cell floor. Even trying to stay awake and aware of your surroundings proves futile, and sleep quickly overtakes you, almost as though you were drugged by the dark, quiet, cozy atmosphere.

The next morning, you are awakened by a booming voice, and you see slits of light coming through the planks of the carriage. You are above the concrete streets of the city, and can make out the pants and shoes of common citizens on either side of the caravan.

"Today, good people of Deinkos, we go to the North! The last tribes of savages have been driven to the very edge of our empire, and now we will see that they leave and never return. We will arrive at the foot of the Colvack Mountains in under a week to begin negotiations with the savages' leader. We will make no compromises, and refuse to accept dissidence!" the Archduke Tybalt says, his voice somehow magically enhanced. "May I now present our young Duke, rising star and future leader of our glorious nation, his lordship Ethan d'Ondriam!"

Wild cheers fill the air. Kest's young heir to the throne, nephew of the King, is immensely popular amongst its subjects.

"Hello, people of Kest!"

Further cheers resound. The boy sounds quite young, in his early teenage years. An experienced listener could note the slight hesitations in his voice, as if he is not entirely sure of hiimself.

"Thank you! I am honored to represent our nation in the negotiations with the northern tribes. Surely a solution will be found, and our nation's boundaries will stretch from the Felunic Ocean over three hundred miles to the Colvacks! There is a long journey ahead of us, but I am sure that the savages will see reason! Wish us well!"

The crowd roars, the wheels of the carriage (and the other carriages in a caravan around it) begin to turn. You roll through the city gates to loud cheers, and pick up speed. Through the cracks the floor turns from pavement and stone to dirt roads and grass. The carriages dash forward, heading north to the mountains as fast as they can go.

There is nothing to do to pass the days to come but wait, think, and talk to the five new characters who have come into your lives. Although you are still seemingly imprisoned, it is not jail itself, and at least you are among what may be friends. You wonder what is to come, why you have been chosen to accomplish whatever your mission might be, and what Tybalt is planning...

The day passes, and your anticipation of the next morning becomes all you think about. Are you to become simple hitmen and murderers? Sitting there in tribal furs, you feel as though fate has conspired to bring you to an inescapable point, where your actions, no matter what they are, will have vast and far-ranging consequences. The next morning the caravan is stopped to change horses and restock supplies at the last way station before the Colvacks.

Listening through the boards overhead, you hear Tybalt speaking."Guard! Have the young Lord Ethan brought to my carriage, I must speak with him."

A few moments before you hear Ethan's voice above you. At about the time that he starts speaking the caravan begins to move onward again. "Greetings, my lord. You called for me?"

"Yes, lad. Do you believe that you are ready for the negotiations ahead?"

"I think so, my father taught me well."

“Ah yes, Vernon d’Ondriam truly was a great speaker. And a strong warrior as well. I fought alongside him and your mother the day that they died, you know. It was at the end of the last Savannah War, before the plague, and you were only eight or so then.”

“Hopefully I will honor them, and you, and everyone in this kingdom.” Ethan says, hesitating at first.

“Do you know how your parents died, boy?” Tybalt asks, his voice taking on a subtly more menacing quality.

“Yes, they were overwhelmed by the savages. They took most of the fiends with them though.”

The Archduke chuckles heartily, “I stood next to your parents as they died, you know.”

”Really? I thought that they had been separated, cut off from the rest of the army.”

”I twisted the blade I placed through his ribs while I choked him. He was pathetic. He sputtered like a baby, begged me to take you or your mother instead. He whimpered and cried for his life!”

”What? Who are you, you monster? I’ll kill you!” Two swords are drawn.

”Your mother I had fun with first.” Tybalt laughs uproariously. ”Look out! The savages are attacking!” A trapdoor above your heads opens into a lush, cushioned purple carriage. The grotesque Vaughn Tybalt and the young Ethan d’Ondriam stand at opposite ends of it, swords drawn and pointed towards each other. Tybalt notices you, says, ”Goodbye, boy!”, and somehow floats through a door out of the moving caravan. Relief flashes across the boy's face as he takes Tar-vatyrr's hand and pulls himself up. He is young, perhaps sixteen or seventeen, with blonde-brown hair and gray eyes. He wears a green and gold tunic, and wields a beautiful sword whose hilt is set with small rubies.

A number of them slam into the side of your carriage, filling the air with the smell of burning wood.

The carriage suddenly flips upon its side, and is rammed by the one behind it in the caravan, knocking most of you over. The sounds of battle fill the air outside. Shouts of "Traitor!" and "Die!" mix with the sounds of steel clashing upon steel. Your carriage grinds to a halt. Kranor shatters the flimsy carriage door with a spell, and the party, with Ethan, climb out. A battle rages around you, with guards from the first carriage battling with those from the third. The third carriage has smashed into yours, splintering to pieces. The carriage in front of you has halted to allow its men to step out. Your carriage is upon its side, its roof slightly above the other two. You are just over five feet from the ground.

Carric emerges last of all, and is suddenly grabbed by an elf on the side of the carriage. He is dragged to the floor and stabbed through the chest. Blood soaks through his robes. A slingstone shatters into his neck, thrown by a human. Carric staggers up, blood dripping from his lips. He mouths the words, I am coming, my lady... I will be with you soon... A human wielding a halberd steps forth, sending his weapon through the cleric's chest. Carric topples over between the rubble of the two caravans. He does not move. A group of six humans and elves have made their way past Ethan's guards and surrounded your carriage.

Initiative Order: Brathios, Human Arcane, Tar-va'tyrr, Human Mace, Elf Bow, Kranor, Quintus, Hymath, Elf Sword, Human Sling, Human Halberd

((You five are bunched together on the carriage one space above the ground. Ethan is the scrawny guy next to Kranor.))

Reaping strike on the elf? in front of me.
Attack:[roll0]

Quintus, Half-Elf Warlock

"Oh gods! It seems we must fight our way out; So be it... Quintus lifts a finger to the mage and casually, laughingly speaks a Curse at him. "Ethan, you might want to stay out of this fight. It's about to get messy."

Quintus then turns away, upwards and gestures up towards the heavens - Tereva Sanga en'Delban!" and as he gazes to the sky his eyes begin to flow and swirl, the pupils seeming to boil away in little black wisps. A ray of invisible power drips down from above, making the air shudder around it, manifesting as a cloud of icy points of light gathering around Quintus' head that soon gravitate towards each other to separate into distinct points of bluish-white light, orbiting above his cranium.

Quintus' body now literally shuddering with power, he brings his gaze back from afar, back down to the trifling matters on this world; Staring at the Human magi, he cries "ILE TYEL!", his body lifting off the ground a few inches as a number of the orbs join together and strike at the poor being with a painfully dire radiance -

Hymath, Warforged fighter

The discussion has been to confusing to the poor warforged. He has stood still, either not interested in the talk, or perhaps he simply does not care. When he falls out of the wagon, and sees his opponents, he lets out a scream of joy.

Raahhg

He quickly moves towards the bowman, readying to take him out with one single blow.

[roll0]
[roll1]

If hit, the target is prone. I am aiming for what I think is the elf bow in the upper right corner of the pic. If he moves back, I´ll instead move first and then charge, making the same attack as above, but with a +1 power modifier to hit and not knocking the target prone if I hit.

Kranor Firesmelt, Dwarf Wizard/Cleric

(Casting Freezing Cloud, which is an area burst 2 spell, I am targeting the square that will enable me to hit the three enemies directly opposite from us. I will willingly re-target a square that only allows me to hit two opponents if I need to avoid targeting an ally. I will trust you to draw the cloud's area, it lasts until the end of my next turn and anyone starting their turn there is subject to another attack.)

Freezing Cloud Description here.
Int vs. Fort
Area Burst 2 within 10 squares
1d8+ Int Cold damage.
Miss: Half Damage
Effect: The Cloud lasts until the end of your next turn. Any creature that enters the cloud or starts its turn there is subject to another attack. You can dismiss the cloud as a minor action.

Kranor draws his arcane power deep within himself. "Asha Kael Froska!" he cries, summoning a heavy mist that surrounds some of their opponents. The mist forms into a blue cloud of extreme cold that pierces through the armor and clothing of the enemy.

Brathios swings down violently at the elf below him, slicing through his armor. 7

The human mage reaches up to the sky sends an arc of lightning over all of you directly into the young duke’s chest. Separate bolts course from him into Quintus and Kranor, shocking each of them. 7

Tar-va’tyrr’s shuriken connects directly between the elf archer’s ribs, bringing blood pouring out of his chest. 22

The human wielding a mace moves up to Tar-va’tyrr, swinging his mace. Tar ducks out of the way nimbly, also avoiding an arrow from the elf archer he had hit previously, who has maneuvered to improve his shot.

Kranor conjures a cloud of stinging ice over the mage and the slinger, who are both enveloped in it. 9,9 Quintus’ curse, directed at the mage as well, is lost in the cloud and fails to connect.

Hymath roars fiercely and charges after the elf archer. The elf next to him manages to slip a blade into the machine, but it doesn’t slow him down. 8 Hymath, screaming with bloodthirsty joy, slams his hammer into the elf archer’s head, knocking it clear off as if playing baseball. Dead

The remaining elf stabs at Brathios with a long sword and a short sword, both of which the warrior skillfully deflects.

The human with a sling shrugs off the effects of the cloud and steps out of it, whipping three stones at Brathios, two of which connect. 9,6

The human wielding a halberd steps up and swings at Brathios, but merely connects with the carriage.

Brathios, Human Fighter
Brathios uses his action point, going to a second wind, Then strikes down at the elf in front of him with steel serpent strike
Attack:[roll0]
Damage:[roll1]
The second wind gives me +2 to my defenses, The strike slows the elf if it hits, and keeps him from shifting, until the end of my next turn.
If I kill the elf, I'll leap down onto the square diagonally down from me, facing the Halberd soldier.
Ethan! Take cover behind the carriage!

Hymath, warforged fighter

Hymath swings around with a meanacing glare, focusing on the arcane spell user. This time silently raising his weapon above his head, he charges straight at the poor soul, trying to smash him to smitherens.

Move and attack human arcane with Spinning sweep, marking him. If hit, prone.

[roll1]

If he cannot reach the arcane user by movement, he´ll move and then charge. He´ll gain a +1 power bonus to attack, but won´t knock the target prone on a hit.

Quintus, Half-Elf Warlock

Severely hurt by the failure of his most powerful spell, Quintus too knows that the worst thing is a loss of morale, so he takes a subtler approach with his next attack; Cupping his hands together, cursed and cosmic words snowball into a small indeterminable point of non-light that hovers away, seeking the human mace-wielder to torment.

(The characters that started their turn in the cloud were attacked again on the start of their turn. I am rolling that now.)

Freezing Cloud Attack:
Attack 1: [roll0]
Attack 2: [roll1]
Damage: [roll2]

Kranor, seeing the success of his cloud, roars. "I have shown you ice... now I will show you fire! Hreen Krakor!"

With a wave of his staff, Kranor hurls a burst of Scorching Flame, centered on the Mage. (I am probably going to get rid of Thunderwave in exchange for Magic Missile. I really need a single-target attack spell.)

Scorching Burst: Int vs Ref
Attack: [roll3]
Damage: [roll4]

After throwing his storm of flame, the ice cloud vanishes as quickly as it appeared.

(Note, I will probably use my Staff of Defense interrupt against the next attack against me, it adds +2 [my Con] to a single defense, which will naturally be whichever defense applies to the attack.)
