How sad. If this happened to me and an account can't be recovered, I would want to create a new account with the same name (I could care less about post count, and I save all my PMs elsewhere). Is that possible?

This is me, Armin. I would love to say that this royally sucks.

Well, I see that the answer to my question is 'yes.'

And I'm sorry, dude.

It does strike me as weird that the buttons to update your account and to delete it are so stupidly close to one another. When I've updated my profile I've been very careful to double-check which button I hit.

Unless you give a damn about post count then just put something in your sig letting people know it really is you and you're done.

If you do....well....isn't that where SMBG began? ;)

Levee? Sandbags? Perhaps one of these:

well... I'm an engineer and reasonably civil too.

Can his post count be recovered for a new account?
::)

I personally, don't really care about post count. And no one should, since we're not supposed to talk about them. Everyone always seems horrified when someone loses their post count. It doesn't mean anything.

I agree - let's set 'em all back to zero!

;D

I'll agree with that, too!

I think the loss was being able to look up his old posts. Not for him, but if I looked at Armin now, I couldn't look up his posts from before.

You will currently find all of Armin's 1756 posts if you do a search.

Oh... sweet! Applause for RawBear. That's a neat little trick. Now why don't we all delete our accounts, and just get him to do that for each of us, and we can carry through with Zherog's suggestoin after all!

Wouldn't you like that, Ray?

You know, if we just cooked one of them, we wouldn't have this problem. There'd only be one Raw, and the other'd be Cooked.

yeah, um, sure, delete your accounts, er, sure, yeah, I'll restore them all, why don't you start first, HempRope. You can trust me, right? I won't leave you hanging, right? Right?

I bet Ray could write a script to reset all the post counts to zero much easier than he could restore even one account. ;)

Rawhide

Actually, to restore one account, all you need do is recreate it with the same account name...

I don't think anyone fixed anything. It's just that the posts still have Armin's name on them.

HempRope

So, if I delete my account, I can create another account with the same name? And then, if I go to the recent posts thingy or whatever, I can look up the posts the first HempRope made?

...that's what I meant, I think I didn't explain clearly enough what I meant by 'search.'

Actually, if making the new account with the same name "relinks" your account to those posts, I don't know about YaBB, but other boards have a Recalculate Posts option on the admin panel.

Well, then you'd be wrong, but only because he did something else wrong that prevented relinking from working.
