Chiron is a planet noticable for its exquisitely beautiful and lethal wild life. Its most beautiful new animals have just arrived twenty years ago. No faction has made contact with eachother. Even Usuper and Caretaker technologies have ceased to function. As of yet, everyone has had horrific experiences with mind worms, even the Gaians, and the Cult of Planet have had terrible casualties from what they thought to control.(Total taming of mind worms and boils should take place in 5 years, but wild worms will still attack.)

Sheng Ji Yang has established an exceedingly high number of three bases in only the past 20 years. Nine thousand Human Hive members undoubtedly control the most powerful civilization on Chiron for now. Far to the Eastern Continent, lie the Human Hive. To the center lay the Gaians and the Cult. To the north lay the Lord's Believers. To the central Eastern Continent lay the Peacekeepers, Morganites, University, and Data Angels.

Nautilus Pirates currently occupy the Western Coast of the Westmost continent with the Usurpers. There Spartans, the Free Drones, the Cybernetic Consciousness, and the Caretakers *enjoy* an extremely odd proximity.

Issac looks out on his in contruction super lab/base of operations, he had recently garnered some support among the colonists, when his super chemical had saved the enitre groups life, allowing them to physically attack the leatha creatures of the planet unarmed without much harm. (not wuite car throwing super strength, but around that of a rhino.), and thus through that they had su[pported him, even going on dangerous forays to fin rare herbs for him to create new, and dangerous abilities for them to use.

do we need to research to get vehicles? what kid of weapons?
anyway here's my post

Chasa Dawn looked around the Base, it was beauty, nothing on sacred Planet had been killed in making it, it took almost nothing, and polluted the same.

Turning to is assembled believers, Chasa began chanting

Planet is supreme

PLANET IS SUPREME

It's mind guides us, Its creatures test us

It's mind guides us, Its creatures test us

and we shall tame the creatures, the mindworms will work with, they shall protect us from our enemies, and aid us in our conversion of unbelievers! our tracker shall find them and our talents shall tame them, those true of faith will have some small communication, and we shall nurture that talent. I shall be among those who develop the process.

Our bioseers shall communicate with the fungus and convince it to be more edible. our engineers shall find ways to make vehicles that move in harmony with planet, and aid us in defense and conversion.

Even now our scouts and explorers are mapping the area, looking for resources, shards of the Ark and other settlements. We shall triumph

For Planet!

For Planet!

GM

400 will capture mind worms
400 (including Dawn) will attempt to tame them.
200 will map the area and search for any resources, Unity pods, major fungus forests, or other civ's
400 will work on making the fungus edible eliminating food concerns, as well as gaining a bit of proficiency with the gene code.
400 will work on researching vehicle plans that are eco-friendly and are either weaponized or exploration, or can transport lots of people.
600 will harvest nearby resources, providing food, and the materials necessary for the above
200 will serve as a defense corp, training and drilling with their weapons
100 will research into new and better weapons
280 will work to increase infrastructure
20 will be priests, preaching and increasing loyalty, happiness and efficiency

"Dr Skye?"

Deirdre Skye looked up from her microscope, momentarily caught by surprise, then stood up and smiled. "Colonel Evans, Captain Tsu. Thank you for coming so quickly. Are the recon teams ready to move out?"

"Beta team is prepped to leave at dawn," answered the older officer crisply. "Captain Tsu will be leading Epsilon out later in the day."

Deidre nodded. "Good. Captain, I'd like you to add a checkpoint to Epsilon's route." Deirdre walked over to a wall covered floor to ceiling with scribbled diagrams charting the alien genetic code which governed Planet's lifeforms. With a wave of Deidre's hand, the biochemical gibberish faded from view, replaced by a map of the known terrain around Gaia's Landing.

"Gamma team reported a possible site for a new settlement, south of this ridge here." Deidre ran a laser pointer across the map, leaving a curved line of light along the ridgetop. "The high ground on the ridge would be an ideal site for a solar array, and we could build farms here and here with minimal damage to the ecosystem. But it's close to deep fungus, too, here to the east." She grinned with scientific enthusiasm. "Good access to mindworms."

"Do you see any down side to 'good access to mindworms'?" asked Tsu drily. Colonel Evans frowned at the younger officer's impertinence, but Deirdre just chuckled; she preferred working with people who spoke their minds.

"Yes, actually," she answered. "Gamma were nearly outflanked by a mindworm boil. They had to abandon half their equipment and retreat across the ridge, and are heading home for resupply. That's why I need you to take a closer look at the area, gauge how aggressive the indigenous life around the site will be."

"Rules of engagement?" asked Tsu.

"Same as always. If you contact a minor boil, try to establish communication, and gather all the data you can. We're especially interested in knowing how they respond to the new pheromone admixtures you'll be carrying. But above all, maintain a clear line of retreat. If they move to surround you, pull back immediately."

"If Dr. Clarke will let us pull back," said Tsu, earning another look of rebuke from the Colonel. Tsu had never made a secret of her dislike for Gaian policy of letting civilian scientists share the command of recon units.

"He'll let you make that call," Deirdre stated. "I wouldn't send Lazlo Clarke if I didn't trust his judgment, and that includes knowing when to listen to a woman who's led a dozen mindworm contacts without loss of life."

Tsu saluted. "Permission to drag Dr. Clarke home by his ears?" she asked, her tone efficient and polite. "For his own good, of course."

"Granted, if it comes to that," Deirdre answered. "We are not losing any more people out there." She turned to the grey-haired officer. "Speaking of which..."

"More anecdotal reports of radio chatter," answered Colonel Evans. "Mainly along the northwest outskirts, but no one has brought in a confirmed recording, let alone a triangulation."

"See how far to the northwest you can take Beta group, then," Deirdre answered. "Without getting cut off, of course. But if someone else is alive out there, the sooner we can talk to them, the better." All three of them were well aware if the rumors, well over a decade old now, that the workers who had vanished from their farms in the early days after Planetfall were not victims of mindworms, but disciples of some mad messiah. And of course, other escape pods had fled the disaster that the Unity had become...though Deirdre was not always sure whether she hoped all of them had survived.

Synopsis of Gaian activities:
Recon teams seeking to study mindworms, scout good sites for a new settlement, and contact other human factions.

Heavy commitment to research, aimed mainly at understanding Planet's lifeforms, including communication with/taming of mindworms.

Moderate commitment to infrastructure -- farms, mineral extraction, and solar arrays -- with emphasis on choosing sites which won't disrupt ecology.

Light military presence; just enough to defend base and field researchers against worms.

Nautilus Pirates currently occupy the Western Coast of the Westmost continent with the Usurpers.

On the western coast of the westernmost continent, Safe Haven is bustling with activity. Indeed, all the pirates, led by Svensgaard, were organizing colony groups. Ulrik, after inspecting the groups, is hailed by two women: Sonia and Morgane. His personal assistants. They walk up to him, saluting before speaking.

"Sir, I have the reports ready on the boils." says the first woman.

"Give me the summary." Ulrik's 'good' eye gazes on her, as does his unused grey, lifeless eye. He takes pride in his actions, and has never sought to hide his scars from others.

"Sir, the reports generally expand on what we know so far. Our scientists have told us that the isles of the deep are using psy attacks on our men. Hence the overall panic when boils attack. There was also sightings of isles of the deep carrying similar, land-based entities, it seems they can carry mindworms. The mindworms seem to be in a sort of... lethargy while carried by the Isle. There's also some reports on how the boils comm.." but she is cut short in her talk as Ulrik believes he's heard enough.

"Right. I want a way to fight fire with fire. At worst, I want some water. Got it?" The captain was almost always cryptic to his assistants, but that's exactly why they were there. They were meant to interpret correctly what he's trying to say and then translate it scientifically. The man had no patience for science.

"Morgane, get ready for group Alpha. I want Crow's Nest to be up and running in the fortnight. Get to it."

"Yes, sir!"

With those words, Captain Ulrik Svensgaard of the Nautilus Pirates returns to the construction of Safe Haven's underwater port, from where submarines and deep sea engines will depart, and also where his office will be, on the side of the base, with a 180 degree panoramic underwater view towards the ocean.

"Mister Zakharov, Sir!"
Zakharov looked up from the pad he had been reading. It showed a cloud chamber photograph of something his engineers believed to be a new particle with interesting properties.
"Yes?"
It was Scott, the univerity's military commander. They didn't have many soldiers, but those they had had superior equipment, at least.
"Mining outpost two has been attacked by the indigenous Verminoids. No survivors."
Zakharov contemplated this for a moment, his data monocle changing colour from red to green as new data came in.
"I see. It seems we can't do much against it for now. Evacuate the outposts in perimeter three and begin construction of sensory systems. We will try setting up fences and defence systems in a wide enough area that at least some farming and mining will be possible."
Scott nodded, saluted and left the office, while Zakharov returned to his studies. He hoped that no more trivialities like these would keep his mind of the important problems. They really needed a bigger cyclotron in Lab 4.

Mining and farming: bare necessity.
Everything else: research.

Regenisis groaned as the two needles injected themselves. One into a vein in her neck and the other directly into what was once her beating heart. Her body seemed to fill with energy as the inky black agent suffused through her undead body.

She unhooked herself from the injection chair and proceeded to her Neural Synthesis chamber. She smiled as her eyes drifted over the oval machine, and she quickly entered it.

The machine allowed her to connect with any of her subjects attuned to its frequency, telepathically. Currently only her advisers were part of the matrix but she hoped someday the entire planet would be connected as such.

She focused her mind on her head of Internal Affairs and Security, Duke Raymond. He was a duke because the people of Regenisis had a pseudo Monarchy with her self as Empress.

Raymond, what is the status of Lancelot? she intoned in a serious thought. The new base was named after the ancient knight of Arthurian legend, fitting since her capital was known as Camelot.

Milady, all goes as planned. The base is up and running... with that he seemed to stop, as if weighing something.

Raymond, whats wrong? Regenisis asked sounded mildly worried.

Well Milady...It was just the spot you chose was infested with a huge mind worm infestation, there were deaths both civilian and military The duke answered dutifully.

My lord! Well I suppose have them gathered in bodybags and I shall have a Transport rover come and bring them here

Milady? The question seemed to be accusing.

Remember, it takes workers for a civilization and with that she cut off the connection.

She redirected the frequency to Dr. Olivia Porter Dr., as we expected they met with resistance, there were deaths you may send your men immediatly

Milady, the Rover-trawler? the Dr. asked sounding fearful.

Unfortunately, yes. I had the impression that there was quite a few casualties. Reginesis seemed actually sorry.

Understood...Milady did we do the right thing? the Dr. asked quietly.

Regenisis sighed Dr., if the D.E.A.D. prgram works, our casualties to mind worms will be greatly reduced, see that your work is completed and with that she cut off her transmission.

She stepped out of her machine and strode over to a balcony, yes, she had been almost certain that there were hostile life at the other base sight...sacrifices must be made.

(On Saturday you will all receive slight benefits.)
No one had met eachother's bases yet. No contact with eachother had been made. However, some did come into contact with non-mind worm wildlife, also abundant. Beautiful beyond words avian creatures and canine like hounds were seen frolicking in both newly built terran forests, still growing and fungal blooms.

Energy platforms of all factions received dramatic boosts, making life easy for everyone off duty and also people on duty.

Regenisis's eyes snapped open as she heard the psychic message from the duke. It was the next day and once again she was in her NS chamber speaking with her head of agricultural studies, the countess Sophia.

Only very urgent need could let the duke contact her.

Milady, as we were digging through the earth setting the ground work for Lancelot base we found a hollowed out cave the duke said exicitedly, any anger at his Empress vanished in his enthusism.

What did you find Raymond? Regenisis asked equally exicited. She knew the duke did not get excited often, so it must be important.

Inside the chamber was a monolith made of a bronze-like metal. On it's sides glowing green pictograms stand out, some of the more scientific civilians say that with some study they could actually tap into it! the Duke was waiting for a positive answer.

That is amazing news she said with enthuism I'll send Dr. Miller, he is our leading Archeologist! after a second she ordered I want that base up and running immediatly

By your command Milady! and with that she cut the connection. She smirked coldly, things were going perfectly...

Deirdre Skye picked her way down a steep jumble of rocks, slick with spray from the waterfall that cascaded to her left Safely reaching level ground, she paused for a moment beside the churning pool at the base of the falls, laying her hand against the trunk of a silverpine tree. Halfway along the valley below, she could see the improbably sharp line where the greens and browns of Earthlike forest gave way to the salmon, peach and crimson streaks of a healthy fungus bloom.

The sharp division was intentional. One of the first things Skye and her fellow geneticists had done upon landing was to give the Terran species in their gene banks a fatal weakness to the chemicals produced by Chiron's fungus. Where the fungus grew, no Earth plant would intrude; Deirdre knew all too well how a suddenly introduced invasive species could ravage an ecosystem.

The principle would be put to the test soon with the construction of the new agricultural complex on the eastern plains. Demeter's Hold would triple the biomass of Earth species her people had placed on Planet, and Deirdre was still worried about the implications. Genetic drift was easy enough to monitor, but...

She was doing it again.

Between late nights in the labs and endless days in conference rooms and senate chambers, it seemed she never had time to experience the things what she was working to protect. For now, no planning; it was enough to hear the roar of the waterfall, touch the rough texture of silverpine bark, taste the alien tang of fungus on the wind, and feel the solidity of Planet under her feet.

Just as Deirdre felt herself beginning to relax, her communicator buzzed softly. With a rueful chuckle she unclipped the device from her belt, glanced at its screen, and opened a circuit. "Skye here."

A flood of excited words spilled from the communicator, causing Deirdre to flinch reflexively and hold it away from her ear. "Wait, Lazlo, slow down," she countered. "Susan's team found a...That's fascinating, Lazlo, but...what?"

Deirdre leaned heavily against the tree, as if without its support she might forget how to stand. "Intelligent construction? Those were her exact...She's sure it's not a prank? Yes, I know Sarah's not an idiot, but this is...Lazlo, there's no word for what this is."

The discovery of nonhuman life on Chiron had been exhilerating, and fascinating, and terrifying (Goddess, let us not kill this world like we killed our own) but nonhuman intelligence would be all those things cubed.

"I'm heading back right now," she said "Round up all the department heads you can find, and tell Susan we'll link with her in an hour. Yes, sure, get Hakim too. Yes...listen, Lazlo, I've got to climb some rocks. Gonna hang up now. Skye out." The flood of words from the other end hadn't slowed, but Deirdre snapped the communicator shut anyway. She had long understood that you can never actually end a conversation with Lazlo Clarke, only walk away while he continued to happily toss out ideas.

Her moment of peaceful contemplation forgotten, Deirdre's mind churned as she climbed back toward the trail to Gaia's Landing. We'll need a chemist to analyze the physical structure of the monolith, she decided. Geologists to study the strata where it was found. Cryptographers, definitely...and the encoded information might be astronomical, so we'll need...hell, she thought. We need Zakharov. Never expected to say that.

But if the old bastard's still alive, she reflected with a sudden grin, will he ever be jealous that we found this first!

Synopsis of Gaian activity:

Building a new base, Demeter's Hold, to take advantage of the fertile agricultural land to the east. (Assuming that it's too distant to be farmed from Gaia's Landing.)

Highest priority is research. We really want to figure out what this monolith is; assign as many top researchers as needed. Remaining researchers will continue working to understand Planet's life forms and ecology, and to a smaller extent on general science and engineering.

Moderate commitment to infrastructure -- make sure both bases have the energy and resources they need, and make sure our computer network meets the needs of the researchers.

Light military commitment, focusing more on mindworm training and control than on physical weapons.

Soon, Diedre discovers through her contacts that there are fungal blooms coming out from a great lake nearby. Apparently, sea life exists here on Planet as well. All that any player can discover from the artifacts they found is that when jacked into the computer, they emit energy enough to last the factions for years, and then crumble to dust.

Nautilus Pirates

The pirates second base, Crow's Nest, south of Safe Haven is an impressive statement of the Pirate way of life. The buildings are brand new and the clean dome glass expand underwater, people walking on transparent platform, occasionally stopping to gaze in the depths of Chiron. Morgane seems to lose her focus for a second but realizes time is lacking, continuing her walk to the main government building in the base. She enters the throne room and bows as she approaches.

"You did a good job. But I need to give you your new assignment already. Don't fail me in this. There is a strange structure on the coast between the two bases. Our scouts reported that it was nothing... 'human'. I'm intrigued. There was no signs of activity from what our devices could tell. I want you to investigate, Morgane, the Squad already awaits on your foil and will accompany you there under your orders. Good luck, and come back to me."

He smiles, not an unusual sight, but for Morgane, it had much significance. She represses her own smile and simply gives in as neutral a voice as she could muster: "Yes, sir."

When she leaves, Ulrik slowly gets up from the throne and gazes through the large bay windows into the ocean. He felt uneasy lately, almost as if something, someone, was crying out to him, was shouting for him to react. He frowns slightly, and he orders one of the guards to get another squad under orders of Morgane for the expedition.

"I... fear that she may need it on land. The sea... we know. Land. That's where the dangerous stuff is. And send word to Sonia, I want her on scouting mission. Report any unity pods wreckage and salvage it."
