So this thread has undoubtedly been posted several times, but I havn't seen it recently, so instead of being guilty of thread necromancy I decided to start a new thread.

I tuned in just as they were leaving Sunken Valley

An introduction to comparative theology or Sort of like a reverse psion.I actually started several days before that, but it took those days to reach the current strip, so by the time I got to that point, the strip had changed.

First read it at the resistance's battle against Tsukiko.

The first comic I saw was the one my friend was reading at the time (more than yr and half ago) - "colon tumor" - and loved OotS ever since:smallsmile: But I became an active reader around Feb 2008

I had read a few times before, mostly people linking to it, but I never felt like plowing through the first storyline to where the plot started. (Specifically, the linear guild)

At 327 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0327.html), I was linked to it and laughed, so I tried again. No go. Then I stopped reading for a few weeks and when I came back I saw 336 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0336.html) and wondered why the Elan character had some freaky evil dream form. By the time the next comic was up where I would have seen that it was Nale, I had managed to read through the Linear Guild storyline and was hooked.

I remember it was only a few strip after 200, when Miko appeared. It took a while before I joined the forum though.

But I really wanna know: is there anyone around here who was already reading the comic in the first 20 strip?

I started reading in the 390s, and the last one I read before I had to wait was 397.
Which sort of ruined the next few ones until I got used to the harsh reality of waiting for the Giant. :smallfrown:

I started reading right around the time when Elan and Nale were switched, just about there the Cliffport chief was killed and Elan was jailed in Nale's place. That was around October of 2006, I think.

I didn't start reading the boards until about June of 2007. By then I was totally hooked on the comic.

The first time I found the comic must have been pretty early, because I don't remember its having any story line. I read through the comics that were there, laughed at them, and didn't come back for a long time.

The second time was when an acquaintance mentioned #386. I read through the comics that were there, laughed at them, and didn't come back for a while.

The third time was maybe a month or two before I signed up for the forum, so whenever that was. Since then, I check the forum, and incidentally the comic, fairly frequently.

It was probably a few strips after they defeated Xykon. Before the Elan wants to be a mage part if memory serves.

I remember being here for the update when Elan kissed Haley, but not too much before. So just before that big moment. Unless my memory fails me. It was sometime around the beginning of 2007.

Edit: That was when I started reading from the beginning. I had already seen other comics (such as the alignment speech at the trial) referenced on the WoTC forums.

First started reading when it was up to #364, (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0364.html) mainly because my brother pestered me endlessly to. Read the first 20-30 or so comics, then stopped for a little while. Then gave it another go and started reading again when it was up to #391, (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0391.html) and caught up with it by #393 (Which let's face it, is a pretty awesome time to catch up ). And I have been following it devoutly ever since. :smallcool:

To the best of my recollection, it happened this way:

I was browsing through TV Tropes until I found the article about "Not So Harmless". http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/NotSoHarmless. Since it had no direct link to the strip in question, I was forced to look around.

One of the first strips I saw, probably the most recent one at the time, was 453 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0453.html) - which explains why I tend to see Hinjo as more of a OOtS member than Roy himself, I guess.

Eventually I found 448 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0448.html), but by then I was hooked already. So it was time to play catch-up from the start.

When I did, the current strip was somewhere between 474 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0474.html) and 520 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0520.html).

Or maybe the article HAD a link to 448 at the time and I needed context. I'm not sure, really.

Still remember the first OotS strip I ever happened upon- 323 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0323.html)
Found a link on some site that lead me here. Read the strip and had no idea what was going on. Then I realized that it wasn't a joke-a-strip comic but an actual cohesive story. I had nothing to do, so I decided to give it a go. Never played D&D before, but I found myself finding some of it funny. By the time the Linear Guild came into it I was hooked. Finished them all in two sittings and 324 was up when I got to the end.

It's funny, I started reading it sometime in 2006, but I only joined the forum on May of this month.

Pretty recently, when Haley, Celia and Belkar set out from Azure City. :) I had tackled the comic in a three-day archive binge and the last few had felt like a bomb countdown... Just a hundred strips left... 50... 20... 10.... ....NOOOOOOOO! Now I must sit in line like the rest!

I started reading during late summer 2007, during the hiatus after 484 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0484.html). I emigrated over from TVTropes, after seeing the comic linked to time and again. I think the first one I read was 397 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0397.html), and I laughed pretty hard even though I didn't really know what was going on.

I started reading it when it was on strip 370 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0370.html)
But for some reason I stopped before I reached the end of book 1, So I read strip 370 then strips 1-50 or something.
Then I odered the books, because I thought maybe I'd enjoy the story better on paper. I received them when Start of Darkness was published, and read them all, then finished the archives, which at the time were during the Azure City fight (that would be 1 and a half year ago, something like that.)

So, yeah, I started reading like 2 and a half years ago, but became a regular reader only a year and a few months ago.

Somewhere around the trial for blowing up the dungeon and endangering reality. Of course, the very same day I went to strip #1 and kept reading until the circle completed itself and I could just wait a few days for the continuation of the story. Fanaticism. Love it intensely until it starts looking at you funny and eventually ends up poisoning your morning cereal to get out of everything or don't.

I can't remember exactly when (I think they were still at Xykon's lair at the time though) I read my first strip.

I do remember it was around the time that guest comic Rich Berlew made for 8-bit-theater was posted though, because I read about Order of the stick on the forums immediately afterwards, went to this lovely site, and got hooked.

Did anybody else start reading or learn about OotS specifically because of that webcomic?

Oh when did 8-bit theator link OotS in a news post?

I entered after Xykon was defeated but before Haley's item devision trick. Possibly "The Adventurers are Coming," strip. Like a week earlier and I would have ended on the end of the DCF.

Didn't start reading the forums until Haley's criptograms.

Didn't register for the forums until after 4e came out over a growing dissatisfaction with my old stomping grounds: WoTC forums. I had grown bored with the wizzo boards, grown bored enough go back, grown bored again, so decided to register for this board.

I have been reading since about the bandits or so....maybe a little afterwards. I read it up to about the time when Miko first appeared and then my new job blocked the website so I didn't really get back into it until around the trial. I have been up to date since then.

I got into it because my Sister-In-Law mentioned OotS and now it is the only comic that she even reads anymore. I have only two I read.

I have been a frequent reader of the comics but just a recent member in the forums.

I have loved the comics and still reread them to keep up to date with what went on in the past.

I wish I could remember. I know that it was a long time before I came to the forums (and I left the forums once before as I recall). I think it was somewhere around 15 or so. I certainly remember when the discussion was about Trigak's name and "Evan's Spiked Tentacles of Forced Intrusion".

Edit:
Going through the old filler, I can honestly say, I remember the first time each of those came up - and that puts me reading in Sept of 04 at least. I don't remember which strips were interupted by filler, but I do remember "pineapple chunks" - one of my favorite strips of all time.

I remember it exactly. It was #529 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0529.html). I discovered it while looking for a comic to replace Megatokyo which had been dead for a while. I found this and never looked back.

Favourite arc has been the Attack on Azure City, especially Tsukiko, she kicked much ass. I implore The Giant to bring her back, possibly retconning her as a True Necromancer instead of a Mystic Thurge. Meh I'm rambling now, sorry.

This one (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0282.html).

To be precise, my friend Kimana had linked me to a few particular strips before, when they helped illustrate a point she was making, often one relevant to the D&D game we were both in, but it was when she showed me that one (it was the newest one at the time) that I had to go back and read from the beginning.

For those who don't want to click the link, it's the closing speeches at the trial. Not what many people would think of as the main selling-point of OOTS -- it's not exactly funny -- but to me it's very deep and thought-provoking, and it's still one of my favourite OOTS strips.

I took a full weekend to read the entire thing. The first brand new strip I read was the one with the color coding of danger when Haley was rescuing the people in Azure City. Sometimes I get addicted to it, other times I kind of ignore it for awhile since I don't like who the story is following at the time.

Forums, though... I started after I wanted to get my theories in, so it hadn't been too long after I started reading.

I began reading no earlier than August 26, 2005 (the day that I arrived in the USA). I started with #1 and made it a little after Miko's face was revealed in a day. I'm not the type to read stuff out of order, unless intended by the author, i.e. the Haruhi series.

Where did I -really- find out about the comic?

In 2006-2007 I used to frequent the cesspool of the internet itself, 4chan. I never enjoyed /b/, but I really like /co/ and a couple others. Anyway, I noticed a comic was popping up a lot (since people often posted the newest comic of a webcomic to discuss it): Order of the Stick. I wouldn't read even a whole comic, since I could always tell it was plot exposition, and I try to never read/watch stuff like that just in case I do get into it. But then... then, I saw one that made me HAVE to read the comic.

http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0418.html

When I read it, it was the newest comic.

After that, I started my way through the comic. I read slow (I savor, or so I claim) and about then I started going out with the girl who is now my fiance. I was very excited about the comic, and I also wanted to get her into D&D, so I showed that comic and a few others to her. I suggested we read it together, since it seemed a better idea than watching movies together, and she agreed (I'm so happy she 'made it' through the first 10 or so comics where she understood about 20% of what was going on). At that point, I stopped progressing on my own and only read with her. When we finally caught up with the updates, she not only was a huuuge fan but had started playing D&D herself. This would have been around comic... http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0439.html or so. I think that is the first one we both read together and I had not already read it. I know we were together for the shocking update of http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0443.html - I remember because we both kept trying to figure out if he was really dead, or if he 'could have survived' etc.

So yea, ever since we've read almost every comic together, save only a few when one of us traveled or something (and even then, we'd talk about it on the phone later XD )
