Title says it all. Some sigs still have it, I apologize if this thread alrdy exists but I must know, it was before my time.

...yes besides the fact that it was a Spam War.

Well, this guy came along and started posting links for porn under the handle...Grey Watcher., I believe it was? Anyway, we drove him off.

Then a bit later, another guy came along. Probably the same guy, but who knows. Starting posting actual porn on the site using the handle "The Giant," posting titles like "Important GitP news!" on the threads. People posted warning threads but he contaminated those...anyway, long story short, we drove him off again.

And that's the spam war of '06.

However, it's still my official request that members not engage spammers. The infected warning threads happened because of the attempts to fight him.

Were there any other spam wars?

Were there any other spam wars?

Aside from the semi regualr Nokia phone barrages, nothing as concentrated.

Boils the Clown would probably be the first true spammer this site ever had to deal with, though. That was a few years ago, when the west was still young and untamed.

. . . and there we were, starring at the horror that was Boils the Clown's website. Faced with such mindblowing images the likes of which no mortal man has ever witnessed, we fell back to our defensive perimeter and fired off a few warning shots to keep the encroaching madness at bay. As the final advance began . . .

Stories like that? Perhapse the reality of the situation is too much for you and you require a more sanititzed version.

The Giant issued Boils the Clown a warning for his highly distracting spam-like messages.

The spammer used the alias Grey_Watcher. in an attempt to confuse people into thinking his spam threads were actually started by the mod Grey Watcher. They're totally different people.

Same with The Giant. As opposed to The Giant . Notice the slight character changes.

That was an attempt on Pup's part to accent the period. This spammer created similar names to the mods by adding a stop (.) to their name, and then posting threads with the titles of pre-existing threads which contained links to porn, and then pictures of porn the second time around.

So, the actual moderator names are Grey Watcher and The Giant, respectively. The spammer used forumn_admin., followed by Grey_Watcher. and The_Giant. in his attempts to spam the boards. Is everything clear now?

He added a period to the end of the name, hard to notice but allowed him to create it. "Grey Watcher.".

Darn simu-posters...

What is the point, really. They waste, like 5 seconds of our time, but have to spend about 5 minutes of their time finding this crap in the first place. Advantage: Us.

Yes, but the 5 seconds that they drain from our lives accumulates over time. If we lost 5 seconds a day to spammers, that's 35 seconds a week! That's over half a minute! That really adds up after a while. Statistics show that 89.6% of orphans, puppies, kitties, nuns, and gamers are killed by spammers. Those are whopping numbers right there, folks, and it's even more incredible when you realize that I just made it up.

So, yeah, remember that Spam Kills.
