How does one go about setting an adventure in SPACE? Been playing sins of a solar empire lately, and the complete lack of a campaign mode makes me want to make my own.

Psionics, aliens, a mysterious threat, millions of merchants...

What setting should I use?

Also Dragonstar, or you could cross-polinate D20 modern & future with classid D&D, but Spelljammer wins.

Be sure to read John Carter of Mars, Whisperer in Darkness by HP Lovecraft, and as much of Dying Earth as you can hanble (especially the one about lizardmen collecting ioun stones by surf-boarding at the edge of the universe).

Spelljammer?

THIS times eleventy-billion and four.

Or ALTERNITY would work as well.

Is there a Warhammer 40k rpg?

Yes. There's an official one called Dark Heresy, and someone made an unofficial d20 system for 40K.

Traveler looks like it would work, but I haven't had a very good look at it yet. The setting isn't bad, and Fudge works pretty well for sci-fi.

There's always ICAR (http://www.icar.co.uk/).

It has a built in setting and some intriguing rules. Plus, it's free.
