Oldest I've played with was probably in his 40s/50s. I know that George R.R. Martin plays and GMs, but he's only 59 and needs to lay off the RPGs so he can finish book 5, goddamnit.

Gary Gygax was 69 when he died. I think you might need some conditionals, like "Oldest Living D&D Player".

I know there's three generations worth of players in my RL group. Many a joking action has been veto'd because the DM doesn't want to run 'that' kind of game with his mother and niece.

No clue on ages though, though I imagine they can't be all that young.

I've got a GM who's been running a continuous campaign at my college since the late 70s. Therefore, he's at least 50, but none of us have ever asked.

I played weekly for about a year with a guy in his upper 50s.

And I would also like to ask about average age in a gaming group. My group's ages are currently 37, 36, 36, 36, 35, 28, 25, & 24 - average age 32.125. I am a very lucky gamer I think.

Oldest person I ever played with was 50, but he isn't a gamer, just id it as a one-off.

My group is: 26, 28, 23, 30, 27

I'm in 2 RL groups. One is 5 19-year olds, one is about 30 people, most of whom are in their lower 20's, as well as a few 30-40 year olds and the 50+ founding GM.

I played with a guy in late 50's years ago, so he must be 70's now and that guy is probably still playing now.

I feel really young now...oldest in my group is 17 (and she's 3 days older than me, the second oldest). I actually don't personally know anybody who plays that's older than 20, other than people I've seen at the gaming store (but never talked to any of them, other than the employees).

I met a grandmother playing at a D&D convention. I (obviously) didn't ask how old she was, but she was clearly in her mid-60s.

Yes, I was impressed.

Edit: My group's average age 29.25 (20, 31, 33, 33).

Don't be shy Monty! Even us oldies like to have chat now and then. And if there's one thing all D&D players share, we love to talk about our characters (seriously, why do we think that anyone else cares?).

I don't have a problem with talking to them, necessarily; it's just that I've only been there a few times, and it's always been on the way to school, so I'm always in a hurry.

I'm turning 40 next month, and I believe I'm about average for my gaming group. Hard to tell because half the group are girls, and you don't ask of course. I *know* two of them are older than I, but I can't be precise.

My uncle introduced me to the game when I was 8.

He's still playing, as far as I know, and to top it off he's still playing the old white-book edition. I'm not 100% sure of his age... No, wait, I can be. He drew up a family tree at one point, I think I still have a copy somewhere...

Ooooh, crafty he is, he left off *his* birthdate, but has everyone elses on there. He's older than my dad, but younger than any of the other siblings, which puts him somewhere around 66-68, I believe.

My group is as follows:

20 turning 21 on Sept. 20th -----Me.
20 turning 21 on November 11th.
20 turning 21 on November 25th.
21 turned in May.
20, I can't remember his birthday.
20, I can't remember his birthday either.
18, no clue when his birthday is suppsoed to be.

Easy to say we all began gaming together in highschool.

Anyway, oldest guy I gamed with was 54. Oh the stories he would tell, forgetting that they took place 20-30 years ago.

My group is currently:
Me - 19 (20 in a month, whoo!)
My girlfriend - 19
My roommate - 19
A friend of ours - 20

We're college youngins' (though I played AD&D when it was in its prime [read: before 3e]).

My group ranges from 18 (my girlfriend) to 34 (the DM). I don't think I know any players older than that.

Our current core RP group is something like 30, 34, 38, 43, 48. There are outlying players from 13 up to 53.

In my current group I'm the oldest at 29. The next oldest are 24 (my brother and his friend from high school). The rest are assorted 18-to-19-year-olds.

I'm just glad to not be DMing for a change.

The oldest guy I've ever played with was in his mid-30's at the time (I was 22-26). He'd be in his early 40's by now and, last I heard, still playing.

I'm actually a little surprised by the age of the groups mentioned so far. I thought my group was outside the norm with our advanced doddering-ness. Perhaps not.

Well it said oldest gamer in the topic, and us young gamers don't know many, so we don't come. That said, here are my groups.
Group 1:
Me
12
12

Group 2:
Me
12
11
12

Group 3:
Me
12
11
15

Group 4
Me

And I'm 15. And the GM. For all 4 games. Then there is a fifth online game, with ages along these lines:
15(me)
25
38
36
37

All of these are +/- 3 years, except for me, and the 38 year old.

Wow. That means that the guy was around 35 when roleplaying started, and still willing to try new things. Whereas all my players are actually younger than the system I use. I've got a year on it though.

I've often talked with one of the guys I play with (we've known each other for close to 30 years) about playing D&D in our retirement village in the future...
