A towering figure in a dark robe enters the room where you have been milling around sizing up the competition. His face is completely obscured by his hood. He raises both hands to get your attention and speaks in a deep voice.
Abby, Hettar. He pauses for you to identify yourselves.
You have been chosen to fight. Prepare yourselves!
With that he brings his hands down and the two of you find yourself transported to the arena (http://excessivefreetime.org/arena/arena4.html)

OOC:
You've got time for one swift action and one standard action before you get transported in case you need to adopt a stance or activate an item.

On the map, green is open terrain, yellow is difficult terrain, red/brown is the cliffs. Arena has a 60 foot ceiling.

Opening post should have an initiative roll, anything you said after he called your name and what, if anything you did with the 'surprise round' before being transported. After that, start fighting in initiative order.

Abby
start at N19
Hettar
start at W37

{OOC: Do cliffs go up or down from the green/yellow areas? And how high are the cliffs? Are they flat topped or are they also considered difficult terrain/provide cover? Do difficult areas (yellow) provide any cover? }

"Good luck Hettar."

[roll0]

{No actions from Abby}

I thought I had that in the description, but I guess not. Cliffs are 10 feet tall (above the green and yellow) and flat on top. Yellow does not grant any cover, just makes charging impossible

EDIT: that's right; it's buried somewhere in the recruiting thread

Stand: activates Ring of Blinking

init: [roll0]

Why thank you, but I already have it!

{OOC: What do you think, do you think Abby has line of sight to Hettar?}

Abby
AC: 36
SR: 25

{OOC: It's a close shave on the cliff at Q26, If she can see around it, she should be able to see your character. I'm going to say that turning around in place looking for Hettar and the lean that's involved in see him is a move action. Spot +9 can see 100' without rolling, we are 100' apart (okay 100.62').}

If you agree:
Abby turns around in place searching for her opponent, upon seeing him in the distance she appears to take a step towards him but her foot lands directly infront of him, plants and the other foot lifts to deliver a sharp kick to the chest.

Use Abundant step (Standard Action) to travel to W36. Use Flash of Sunset (part of Sun School Feat) to deliver one attack.
Attacking with Weakening Touch. (-6 to STR for 1 min. on hit)
[roll0] (no damage)
[roll1]
Crappy rolls, both of them at least. One crappy roll is just no fun.
Stunning Fists remaining: 17

If you don't agree:
Abby moves to a shielded position.

Move to Q16

{OOC Will I mounted at begining? and do I have to roll Initiative for bat? Will wait for DM choice on agreeing.

if so:} [roll0]

{Either way is fine with me, rolled separately or together. If you are mounted, one of you will have to delay for the other if you move, and then you'll be on the same clock for the duration, but if you don't move, or more separately (i.e. unmounted), you can have different inits, one attacking after the other. Of course, Blink doesn't work on the Bat. Also if you are mounted at the beginning, that might have affected several of Abby's decisions.}

I assume you would have used your standard action in the surprise round to mount the bat; since you did something else, no, you do not start mounted. The bat does not get separate initiative

After an attempt to attack him in melee, though he can survive there, Hettar decides to deal some Skirmish damage. He mounts his bat, and has the bat withdraw to V38, staying as far up as possible while still within 30 ft of Abby. he then uses Greater Manyshot to shoot 3 arrows. (AC becomes 34 btw)
Attack roll 1d20+27[roll] Damage: [roll]1d8+9d6+19
Attack roll 2 1d20+27[roll] Damage: [roll]1d8+9d6+19

Before the two can fly away, Abby makes a quick attack at both of the creatures

AoO on Bat (Freezing the life Blood attack):
[roll0] (no damage) but paralyzed for 1d4+1 rounds if bat doesn't beat a Fort DC 34, if successful, please roll the 1d4+1 in a separate spoiler (and label it) so that I don't know.
AoO on Hettar Weakening:
[roll1] (no damage) but on successful hit STR suffers -6 damage.
[roll2]
Stunning fists now at 15

Sorry, All AoO are +4 for Abby, so those should both be a hit.

{If Bat is not paralyzed, your attacks are still limited to a 20% miss chance due to blink.}

Bat Withdrew (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/combat/actionsInCombat.htm#withdraw), no AoO

Also, in description of Blink (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/blink.htm), doesn't say ranged attacks have miss chance

oliana0

Likewise, your own attacks have a 20% miss chance, since you sometimes go ethereal just as you are about to strike.

Only specifies Physical attacks. Does not specify melee so all attacks that are physical are affected.

Describe its route, then please.

Oh. misunderstood. Rolling Miss chance. Bat moved straight to V38, then moved up as far as possible. when at 30 ft away, Hettar shoots w/ bow. also 3rd attack hit, forgot point blank shot bonus.
21 or higher hits

also the bat takes up more space than 5' right? we should probably specify which squares it's in.

Doesn't matter, that puts you below 0 hp I think.

1. I appear to have forgotten to specify the Dodge bonus to AC. If I were to have remembered (in fact I thought i had in her first attack post) it would be 37. So, if #2 doesn't affect anything, yeah. She's out.
2. Mounting the bat is a move-action, so your character then only has a standard action after that.

Charlie Kemek

2. Yes, used Greater manyshot

Abby heals herself 15 hp sometime between the first attack and the third, but still fall unconscious, bleeding. :smallwink:

Man, next time I'm going to read things closer. first time I read that i didn't realize the bat was a friggin' mount. Had I realized that i would have attacked it in that first round.

Also realize Abby is weak against flying things. And people that use withdrawal when they aren't really running away....

It does seem odd that your character gets a move action, and then gets to wait for the mount to take its move action and then use a standard action which benefits from the mount's move action. Very powerful.

I also could have used Belt of Battle to withdraw, and then get standard action. Didn't really need mount.

Do I have to kill you, or make you unconscious? I don't want to waste arrows.

If I have to Kill you, I simply stab you with an arrow until you're dead.

oliana0

I was just trying to save some dignity for Abby. She's basically dead, beside I'm pretty sure using the ability to recover HP is a standard action....

Need to make Abby better. Move some stuff around.

Aha! I remembered reading it somewhere, and I found it.

Not that I'm a sore loser or anything, but the Errata for Complete Adventurer stated that skirmish does not work while mounted.

Just an FYI for future builds.

someone already addressed that, and all I have to do is dismount before firing, which with the amount of ride ranks I have, can do as a free action.
