I noticed that 90% of the the topic subjects say NEW! in big bold letters.

First off. How do they do that?

Second. Why?

I think that the fact that it's on the top of the list makes your topic NEW!

What gives?

Its one of the features of the board software. It is just there to let you know that there are new responses since you last looked at the thread.

And I'm moving this over to Board Issues since that's what it is.

yabb keeps a log, by user, of posts that have been seen. It's a bit buggy, however, as if you keep going back through posts, you'll start to see that older posts are marked as seen. That's largely to save disk space.

And while it's true that new posts will be at the top of the list, you won't know how many of the ones at the top have posts you haven't see yet. The new lays it out for you.
