So, this morning, I went through my usual routine: I showered, ate breakfast, and checked a few news sites, when I stumbled across this horrible, horrible headline from CNN.com:

http://img392.imageshack.us/img392/1368/cnnpunoj4.th.jpg (http://img392.imageshack.us/my.php?image=cnnpunoj4.jpg)

Gah! I've seen it, and now I can't unsee it!

Anyway, I guess this is open floor for the worst attempts at humor you've ever seen in a newspaper.

Ouch. 3d6 pun damage.

Could have been worse. Could have been something like "I don't like IKE."

That pun....My eyes are bleeding now....Why CNN why?

I take it you people are unfamiliar with the glories of the New York Post. Headlines like "Headless Body in Topless Bar" are just the start.

"Ike beats Tina to death."

Evidently we should prepare ourselves to expect no sympathy from Ike.

He fights for his freinds.

I only have one thing that truly describes how I feel about that.

Worst attempt I've seen at humor in a newspaper? I gotta say Family Circus or Garfield.

Garfield is pretty funny if you just remove garfield (http://garfieldminusgarfield.net/).

That is awful. But, it is a major news station. What can we expect?

I wouldn't say that CNN is especially high quality... I mean, there was the time they called Nelson Mandela “Nelson Mandingo”? The BBC is far superior and, generally, when they make a joke it's actually funny.

True. Weren't they the ones who misspelled Obama as Osama?

I still say it was on purpose, though.

I think I just lost what little faith I had in the US news media.

Heh, yeah that is a bad pun. :smallamused:
Though also amusing is that I'm checking out CNN and they still have links showing Ike back in the carribean. Outdated weather much?

I didn't even notice the pun. I just thought their layout guy had screwed up and capitalised a load of wrong letters. :smallconfused:

The only joke the BBC can make is dancing Chicago on Comic Relief. It was actually kinda traumatising. I don't blame Hugh for not wanting to participate. :smalltongue:

After this thread, I checked out the website again, and saw this headline -
http://edition.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/africa/09/16/somalia.pirates/index.html
It made me think it was another was another CNN phail, but apparently it's a true story. :smallconfused:
On the subject of news fails:

The BBC does not make these...jokes you speak of. The BBC transcends such boundaries. It is the News, and the News is the BBC.
