It is mandatory to link that particular one in Birthday threads.

I stand to disagree!

You have wasted the past 9 months of your 17-year-old-nessness not knowing you were 17! Maybe I just start counting earlier, whatcha! Indeed, you are 17 and 9 months today. How does THAT make you feel?

Sorry, I just watched Family Guy...

Congratulations--I turned 17 early August.

If you live in the US, you're old enough to join the army, but not old enough to drink. That means that you'll be allowed to go, "Oh, God...I-I can't...I can't feel my legs! I can't feel my legs!" But you're not allowed to go, "WOOO! I CAN'T FEEL MY LEGS!"

Here's to another year of your posts here on the playground, which I thoroughly enjoy.

I recently realized the only thing to ruin our decade was bad music (Britney, Backstreet Boys, etc). Pretty dire, but considering all the good stuff we had--like TV shows--I'm pretty content with growing up in the 90's.

Ha, I was gonna say the same thing! We '80s births gotta stick together against the kids of the '90s! (Of course, I'm not QUITE old enough to remember THAT much of the '80s.)

I've not got long before a birthday though - hooray for being 21 in 8 days!

EDIT: Also, being "legal" for different things varies a lot by state and area. I know age of consent in NC is 16, but elsewhere it's 18 (and in some places certain, um, acts are still illegal). In North Carolina you can supposedly have and smoke cigarettes at 16 but have to be 18 to actually buy them. Alcohol, sadly, still requires you to be 21.

I enjoyed the Nineties though I'm technically an eighties kid. I was born at the very end and as such do not remember that missing age of rock and awesome. And not all the music was bad at least we got some of the best rock to walk the planet. Seriously how can you say Kurt Cobaine was bad?

That's because most (not all, I know) don't really have all that much to be angsty about. I vowed to myself a long time ago to never allow myself to be depressed for no reason. However, sometimes I get the feeling that I am clinically depressed (that means chemical imbalance in case you didn't know), I just keep it down through shear force of will.

Not sure if everyone wants flashy special effects, nor if that's limited to the "kids today" (after all, popular media include things like reality shows which have no SFX). But surely, they want what's new rather than what's old. Except when they don't.

But at least if you embarrassingly make a reference to something some young'un has never heard of, at least you can point them to a clip of it on Youtube.

Don't feel bad; my gram started going grey at 13. My dad at 17, and seriously so.

That happened to one of my uncles. He was completely grey by the time he turned 18.

I've gray hairs since I was Five. They only show up once in a great while so I never worry much. Though My uncle has gone completely gray and is thirty-ish.

Just wait til you turn 25, that is when the real age paranoia appears. I felt nothing when I turned 30 though, funnily enough.

And talking about ages, "I'm not old, I was just born early / earlier then you."

I'm looking forward to it, particrually when i get to run around going "I need to do all the things i've dreamed of"

That's because most (not all, I know) don't really have all that much to be angsty about. I vowed to myself a long time ago to never allow myself to be depressed for no reason. However, sometimes I get the feeling that I am clinically depressed (that means chemical imbalance in case you didn't know), I just keep it down through shear force of will.
the clinicall depression isn't really anyone's fault, but it is worth noting that everybody gets to feeling sad once and a while. However, one unlike most American teens, i am actually quite content in my current position in life in terms of whining. I'm annoyed most of the time, but never depressed

My grey hairs started in early twenties, began to increase in mid twenties, and now in late twenties they are few, but visible.

On that topic: my dad was 16-ish when his hair turned white.

On feelig kinda bad at 17: Hey, it means you can see the world more easily, then. Try that at 12 :smallannoyed:

Congratulations, Evil Elitest.

I'm 37 for another 8 months or so. So if you're old, I'm as ancient in the hills. I used to have eight-track tapes. I can remember the time before personal computers, the time when all telephones were analog and had a nice big dial. I lived through the Disco era. I remember when Star Wars first came out and before the Prequel trilogy did. I waited multiple years after Empire Strikes Back to find out if Han got out of carbonite. I saw (on TV) the Challenger explode. I saw the wall come down. I remember the gas crisis and the Iranian Hostage crisis.

I remember when TV consisted of 13 channels, of which only about 4 were color -- ABC, CBS, NBC and a local affiliate.

No real point. Can't remember any point. Any case, welcome to the old fogies club.

Respectfully,

Brian P.

Same here. Only a small handful of grey hairs. I'm quite happy that I still have a full head of hair. My dad was thinning out on top by age 28.

Aww, Pendell beat me as the oldest person responding to this thread. (Just turned 34, myself, though I choose to believe I'm 25.)

Happy birthday! And don't worry, you're not getting old, NOR are these the best years of your life.

Now pull up your pants and turn that baseball cap around! *shakes cane* :smallwink:
