View Full Version : Rome Recruitment - Please move to Structured Games

Again, I apologize for the inconvenience of the delay, but my RL has been in significant upheaval. However, it is with my great pleasure that I declare the Roman Empire established! Hail Caeser! Hail Praetorium!

Rise of Rome is NOW RECRUITING.

RULES:

Rise of Rome

Affiliations:

The Senate
Imperial Security (Masons)
The Legions (Werewolves)
The Citizenry

There would be X members of the senate, each with different loyalties. (Some loyal to themselves, some loyal to the senate, and at least one who's loyal to the legions...) There would also be a political aspect as the senate gets to vote on various laws that would affect the game. (Nothing TOO complex, mind you.) The senate's objective would be to eliminate traitors within their midst, and to assert control over the legions, (via the usual way, of course... Lynching, public execution, whatever). The Legions objectives would be of course to overthrow the senate and establish their alpha as Caeser.

Roles:

Senate:
Praetor - (Special) - Carries extra influence regarding laws *
Can veto/revoke 1 law every 3 days
Law Votes count as 3.
Speaker of the Senate - Seer
Senate Security - Baner

The Twist - These roles are actually voted on by the members of the senate. (Thus, the one loyal to the Legions could find themselves actually being the seer, or the baner. (They of course DO NOT know the identity of the legion's members at the start!)) Given the election idea, killing the one who holds the role merely triggers a new vote for the role, all of which is done via PM to the narrators.

* Special - if a Pro-legion member of the senate is elected to the position, and there are at least twice as many legion members than senate members, the game is over with a legion victory. (Makes sense, considering that's pretty much how it went historically...)

Legion:

Julius Caeser - Legion Alpha
Tacitus - Legion Devil
Augustus - Affiliation Seer (Ie, can only see senate member's affiliation)

Devil & Affiliation Seer are chosen by Caeser

LEGION DOES NOT KNOW PRO-LEGION MEMBERS OF SENATE AT START OF GAME!

Citizenry : Commoners, the lot of them, but the senate may be expanded by a public election, and the player with the most votes (from all players) finds themselves elected to the senate.

Note: - The Senate would be known to all players at the start of the game, as that is key to the flavour of the game. In order to counteract the advantage this would give to the legions, the following rule would be in effect - No Senate member could be killed by the legions until the Imperial Security is eliminated. (Senate members could still by lynched of course.) Should a senate member be targeted, the attack is ineffective.

Laws:

These are special conditions that can influence the game either postively or negatively. One law shall be randomly proposed during each day face. The senate can vote laws into the constitution, spend time debating (Pass on law passing) or in the case of the Praetor, veto or revoke. In order to keep things far, and so that this particular feature can be implemented in later games with reasonable ease, the system will work as follows: I, in consultation with the other narrators, will make a deck of cards, (Which will only physically exist in my posession) which will be shuffled each time a new law is to be voted into order. The laws will include such things as:

Public Execution - the senate immediately votes and one player is lynched on top of the normal day lynch. (Can only pass if 80% of senate vote in favour of using law)

Martial Law - Senate can draft up to two players into senate guard. (Yes, this means they can accidentally hire the legion to guard them)

Emergency Powers - Praetor gains 3 extra votes, for total of 6 votes.

Senate Disbanded - Immediate vote for new senate to be formed. Open to all players.

(You didn't think I'd identify all the law cards, did you?)

These are subject to change.

Again, I apologize for the delay.

If your spirit is troubled or confused, you can send a prayer to him to clear up your mind!

(Supagoof and me are the co-narrators, you can send me a PM if you´re confused about the rules. I´l try and help you as much as possible, but PM box is pretty full now...)

If you want to go authentic, maybe http://www.novaroma.org/wiki/Choosing_a_Roman_name could be useful.

Based on that, I arrived at Numerius Postumius Bonus, the undertaker. Probably not entirely historical, but a decent pun-o-meter score, I hope :smallamused:.

And to give a taste of my narrations for this game....

As you come upon the city of rome, you hear loud shouting and the roar of a crowd. The streets are mostly deserted. It appears tat everyone has gone to the coliseum for today's entertainment. As you approach, the noise becomes deafining.

Heading into the majestic building, you find you way to a seat. On the arena floor there are two men. One is clad in steel and purple. Holding onto a shield and a mace, he is keeping himself circled away the other, clad in blue artic furs with a horned helmet on his head. The crowd is split amongst the cheers.

Goofimus! Goofimus! Goofimus!
Dakotemedes! Dakotemedes! Dakotemedes!

High on a throne across the arena, the nobles sit watching as servents bring them wines and cheeses. Today is going to be a good day of entertainment you think......

MY preference would still be Numerius Postumius Bonus* the cheapskate undertaker, but if that is considered too fussy I could also go with the more extravagant Mortus Ornamentus. Better at big funerals, that one.

*Note that the full name of the well-known emperor was actually Gaius Julius Caesar. So the second and third part are more important than the first.

As mentioned in WW Central, the game will start on the 16th, regardless of signup numbers. Ideally, we want at least 40 players, but we will adapt for a lower number.

Dr. Bath
2008-10-12, 01:52 PM
Just trim the numbers a bit and start the game. Anyone who was going to notice the game has done by now. And small games can be fun too! Sometime 50 feels a bit much, especially when there will be so much discussion, regarding laws and elections and so on. I'd say you're good to go, so quit yer yapping and get tappin' (on the keyboard)! I want me some Roman goodness! :smalltongue:

Also: Technically it's 29 players, Hero has dropped out.

Selrahc
2008-10-12, 02:13 PM
Yeah. I'd say if you run recruitment for much longer you run risks of people having forgotten about the game by the time it starts....

I remember back in werewolf 3 I think, where recruitment started a long time before the game, and half the village was autolynched on day 3 because people had just forgotten they were in the game.

Nychta
2008-10-13, 01:18 AM
I also prefer smaller games. You can't keep track of everyone with 40 players or so >.<

Look, if it's small, it'll finish soon. Then, if people like it, you can always run a second one, and it'll probably have more people.

Uncle Festy
2008-10-13, 09:45 AM
*sidles in*
Ok, so remember how I was saying that I didn't have the time for this game?
Well, a significant part of that was from Mafia, where I was the Falcone alpha. And now I'm dead.
In other words, back in as Homer.
*takes new cookie*
Yay!

Eldritch Knight
2008-10-15, 02:02 PM
Okay, recruitment is now closed. We're hoping to start sometime tommorow, but that's probably about as likely as the moon suddenly transmuting into cheesecake. If everything goes well, at least by the weekend.

I apologize for the delays everyone, but as always Real Life takes priority.
