There have been a lot of threads about how Vaarsuvius will gain ultimate arcane power, but I haven't been able to find a thread speculating what ultimate arcane power actually IS.
- Defecting to the side of Redcloak and gaining control of a gate. According to SOD that requires powerful divine and arcane spellcasters. Vaarsuvius and Redcloak could do it together.
- Epic spellcasting in general. This doesn't sound too likely, as all it requires is an epic feat.
- Becoming a god somehow. Sure that's a lot of power, but isn't it divine rather than arcane?
But "ultimate arcane power" doesn't necessarily have to mean anything approaching omnipotence. It could even be something that Vaarsuvius could attain relatively soon in comic time.
- Archmage as a prestige class. It's more ultimate than a wizard. Perhaps the "ultimate arcane power" is the power to turn any prepared spell into Arcane Fire.
- Becoming a lich. Power to conquer death itself!
- Multiclassing into a truenamer. The power to command the universe by knowing the true names of things!!! Awesome!!! Well, actually it would ludicrously underpowered but could serve as a joke since truenamers are one.
