This is the creative writing competition, folks!

Judges: Me! :smalltongue:
Tired 'N Drowzy
Razaele
Haley In Training

Participants:
Blayze
Raven's Cry
Ghastly Epigram
TGnom
Vulion
Mr. Blinky
Felixaar
Vampire2948
Destichado
Rubakhin
Desilva

Deadline: November 14.

For the story to write, keep it fiction (obviously), and scifi or fantasy. If you wanna write anything else, ask. Keep it under 6000 words, too. Again, if it goes just over, thats fine. Like 10 or 20 words. Not 500.

For judging, you will be judged:
1 point for spelling/grammar/correctly put together
4 points for originality
5 points for well-writtennes, how interesting it is, and so on.

The first point may not make sense, so I'll attempt to clarify.
To write, Wow, bob said, thats a real surprise, joe. You would first:
Capitalize the first letter of both names, put what he said in quotes, and so on. So it should come out looking like

"Wow," Bob said, "That's a real surprise, Joe."

Okay, don't submit any stories yet. Wait until the deadline (which will be announced once we find more people - three people does not an interesting contest make... or something like that :smallconfused:)

Anyone who wants to judge, post here, and anyone who wants to participate, again, post here. Also, anyone who can make a trophy for the winner, please come forward. If possible.

I'll judge. My writing isn't great. Everyone in my class says it's hilarious, but it's totally random and off-the-wall. I guess I can submit a piece I did if I'm not a judge, but I'd have to switch it around a bit. Meh... I'll be a judge.

Okay. I'll add you.

Ooh! I like! I'll be submitting this short story I've had in my head for a while...

If I have the time...

I'd like to be a judge as well!

Do we have to create something new for the contest, or can we pluck recent creations out of this series of tubes?

I would like to try, but is there any kind of theme? Besides sci-fi and fantasy that is.

Why am I reminded of Iron Author which has dissapeared?

IA is alive and well my friend.

It is? I must have missed it. *checks first page* Okay, it is, and that was a bump...

For ravens cry, no particular theme. Do whatever you want. Oh, and offshoots of sf and fantasy. Meaning steam punk/cyberpunk are allowed. do whatever.

Blayze, can you explain? Do you mean for other contests, or just for whatever?

Blayze, can you explain? Do you mean for other contests, or just for whatever?

I wrote a piece of fiction recently that fits this competition. Am I allowed to use it in this competition, or do I need to write something new?

Meh, turns out I WONT have the time to do this, after all.

Ghastly Epigram

This looks like it could be fun, I believe I shall give it a go. :smallcool:

Blayze

Screw it, I'll put this forward instead of waiting for a yes or no on it. This is the piece in question (Practically the start of an ongoing attempt at a story--yes, it's Estra *again*.). I can't remember when I wrote it, but it wasn't that long ago (A week or two ago at the earliest). If I have to write something new, so be it. For now, however...

(No editing/spell-checking/grammar-correction has been done on this. This is partly because I can't be bothered, and partly because I've got OpenOffice (It doesn't come with a grammar checker and I can never seem to get one that works properly.)

Warning: The following hyperlink leads to bad language, foreshadowing and a case of magic being bound by some semblance of actual science and reason, rather than just "LOL EXPELLIARMUS". Details about the Estra universe are available on request.

It's just this chapter that I'm submitting to this contest. The first chapter was written far too long about for me to even contemplate it.

We tend not to be too chatty, especially during the final round.

@Blayze: I obviously can't speak for Sequinox, but that sort of thing is usually considered bad form in this sort of competition, i.e. one with a deadline, since you've already had as much time as you need to work on that one, whereas everyone else will be limited by whatever deadline is set.

Blayze
2008-09-24, 06:43 PM
It must really be late. I didn't think of that. Arse. If it's a problem (I can see it being one), I'll write something else and chuck that one above out of the window.

Sequinox
2008-09-24, 08:08 PM
Okay, sorry for not getting back to you sooner, Blayze, but yes, sure, put it forward.

Wreckingrocc

Why can't Haley be one of the two other judges we're still looking for? We have room. Why can't both she and Raz be judges?

Also, I think I can make the trophy. I'll attempt it, and someone else can make one if mine sucks.

Tormsskull

Ok, sign me up, I'm a sucker for showing off my writing.

I'll try to write something.

2008-09-25, 10:36 AM
I guess you don't take non-english stories...

Unfortunatly, I'm pretty good at writing, but I am a scarce translater...

Mr._Blinky
2008-09-25, 08:02 PM
Eh, why not? I'll submit something. I've been looking for an excuse to do some writing for ages now.

Sequinox
2008-09-29, 06:24 PM
Sorry I haven't done a lot here, but I've been busy.

To Tired: Yeah, I don't see why not. At the time I didn't think we were gonna get many participants. I'll add her.

To Shian: I wish I could... :smallfrown:

Please enter me, I shall write something.

I hope that the deadline isn't too soon...'cause of school and such, I will have trouble writing something long enough.

Thank you,

Vampire2948,

I hope we get to do this. I have a Starship Troopers-esque story wanting to be put to paper.

Destichado
2008-10-03, 05:28 AM
This is doable.

When?

Felixaar
2008-10-03, 06:18 PM
Add me to the entry list...

Sequinox
2008-10-04, 02:00 PM
Okay... I'll add you guys. What would be a good date? Halloween? Thanksgiving? (Around those times, I mean) or earlier?

Okay... I'll add you guys. What would be a good date? Halloween? Thanksgiving? (Around those times, I mean) or earlier?

If you think we've got enough entrants I'd support an end-of-the-month deadline.

Sequinox
2008-10-20, 05:19 PM
Okay. That's it. All of you who have left this page and forgotten about it?

dun dun dun...

The deadline: November 14th!

Yeah, I just randomly came up with the date.

rankrath
2008-10-20, 07:01 PM
are we still allowed to enter? and is 6000 words a set number, or can it be much shorter?

TurkeyTGNom
2008-10-20, 08:36 PM
Ill enter. Is it a general story, do we have to write about a specific topic? If i give you a Turkeykookie will i get a better score?

Tormsskull
2008-10-21, 07:05 AM
I'm withdrawing. 17 days between updates is a bad sign. Plus, I signed up for a different competition when I assumed this one tanked.

TurkeyTGNom
2008-10-21, 05:12 PM
???

So what is the contest still goin' on or what?
:smallconfused:

Felixaar
2008-10-24, 08:49 AM
Contest is still going, 6000 words I think is the cap, theres no topic or some such, and the deadline is Novemeber 14 (btw, you should specify a time zone for that).

And yeah, lack of updates make this look dangerous, but I'll submit something anyway since no prompts are needed (ala, I wont have to write anything new...(not to say I don't like writing, I love it, but I can't really take time out for a random short story during nano (and pre-nano) so yeah. novels are more my thing normally anyway, but I've been working on some short stories lately with the hopes of some magazine publishing...))

Sequinox
2008-11-02, 02:50 PM
Okay, we're back. Sorry about the delay, but I sorta forgot about it... figured I would check on the 14th.

Enter whenever you want; just have the story by the 14th.

Any sci fi/fantasy story works fine.

6000 is the maximum. There is no minimum (though it probably would be good to have incorporated one at the beginning, it's too late)

And finally, yes, the contest is still going.

And now, the final chapter of RvB Reconstruction should have loaded, so I'll be back in a couple minutes.

Desilva
2008-11-05, 06:45 PM
I'm in. I have a short story all ready to go.

Felixaar
2008-11-05, 07:31 PM
I actually cant guarantee I'll be putting anything in. Maybe.

Sequinox
2008-11-09, 07:48 PM
Okay, I'm just posting to announce that yes, I am still around. I added Desilva and greyed Felixaar (half there, might enter... get it?)

Sequinox
2008-11-27, 04:44 PM
Sorry! I forgot about this!

How Judging will work: Send the Judges your short story/send the judges a link to your short story. We'll judge them, score each, and have all the judging done by... How about December 17? (Picked the date out of a hat... sort of.)

We still need that trophy to give the person.

Sequinox
2008-12-23, 03:54 PM
I guess this contest is dead. Sorry, people... :smallfrown:
