Have anyone notice'd that the skeletons are drawn a little drifferent depending on the situation you see them? When you see a person get disintegraded, like here (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0595.html) and here (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0480.html), the legs and feet are drawned more bone-like, but when we just seea skeleton walking/lying around, like here (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0578.html) and here (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0094.html)(and let's not forget Xykon), the legs and feet are just lines. I know maybye this isn't such a big deal, but I just wanted to point that out :smalltongue: Any thoughts on this?

Conservation of detail, probably. Rich can afford to detail a skeleton shown in a single panel for maximum effect, but won't necessarily draw every knuckle on Xykon's hands, who appears in hundreds of panels.

Huh. I never noticed that. I was about to chalk it up to art upgrades, but that doesn't match up. I guess that's just how Rich rolls (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBGIQ7ZuuiU).

I had a feeling that pun was going to result in that. Therefore, I direct you to some 4E homebrew (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=91765).

I think it's to differenciate between and outer skeleton and an effect that allows you to see someone's skeleton inside their bodies. otherwise, we might think they lost their skins or something. This way, we know we just SEE their bones, but only inside.

Maybe it's easier to draw lines for a skeleton that is going to appear alot rather than feet for a skeleton that will only appear once?

I notice the two cited examples show people being Disintegrated while wearing shoes. Perhaps its to highlight the skeleton within their flesh/clothes? We'll have to see if a random Goblin gets Disintegrated at some point.

I think stick appendages are for things that are mobile. Piles of dust and skeletons in the process of disintegration just need more detail, I guess.

Seriously, it seems to work well.

Skeletons being disintegrated get more teeth, too.

Compare the size of Roy's skull to the size of his actual head. There's no way it could fit in there.

The standard skull template (ie. Xykon's, as is used for all other skeletons) is bigger than a normal human head - most likely for stylistic reasons, to allow more room for expression etc. When someone gets disintegrated, their skeleton needs to fit inside the silhouette of the character, which for obvious reasons needs to be the same size and shape as the character normally is. So the proportions are squashed to fit it in.

As for the drawing of the limb bones... well, white stick-figure limbs (as regular skeletons have) wouldn't show up on the pale yellow of the silhoutte, and black stick-figure limbs would make it look as though the character's limbs were still intact. Considering the limited visual nature of Rich's medium, he doesn't really have much other choice but to draw them this way.

I thought he only drew his characters once then rotated/resized/changed expressions as necessary to fit any scene.

Nope. At the beginning he drew them all I think. Now he has each character in a variety of poses and with a variety of expressions that he uses. But it's not just once image for each one that he plays with.

As a comic artist I approve this message. It's how I would do things.
