I need some suggestions!

I used to use AKS HexMapper. It was great, simple yet flexible. Save it as a bmp, convert to png and upload it somewhere, then link it in to my pbp game. Unfortunately I've lost my copy and every link I can find on teh internetz is broken. There's a Yahoo group, I've applied for membership, but no response yet. Maybe that'll pan out.

But in the mean time, does anyone have any other suggestions for hex-mapping programs? I've looked at loads of them, and have run in to some problems. The few I liked, such as Hex - World Creator, are incredibly unstable and unsupported. Others cost a lot, and I'm not putting money in to this. And still others are free but very complicated.

Anyone have a mirror to AKS HexMapper, or a suggestion for a good alternative?

Thanks!

Autorealm (http://www.gryc.ws/autorealm.htm) is free and has some support for hexes. Not a whole lot, but enough to work in a bind (it's better for world map kinda stuff). It's kinda buggy though, but not nearly bad enough to be unusable.

You could use a hex grid generator (MkHexGrid (http://www.nomic.net/~uckelman/mkhexgrid/), Incompetech (http://incompetech.com/graphpaper/hexagonal/)) to make the grid and then fill it in as you need.

I checked that one out, but it seems to have an awfully steep learning curve. I definitely didn't have the hang of it after playing with it for half an hour. Same with the HexMapper Java application.

Find a good tutorial somewhere, thats what I had to do for sketchup, and now I can bend it to my will, mostly.
