OMG!

Currently, the only website I can load is giantitp.. No google, no photobucket, no battleon, probably no anything else I can check! Maybe I should try using IE?

Well at least your computer knows what is important

Some more information: Running Mozilla Firefox with multiple tabs, got AIM open, got Photoshop and Illustrator open, have that XPS thing that comes with Windows XP which I am currently using... can't think of anything else.

I'M STRANDED ON AN ISLAND OF DATA! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, HELP ME! No fluke!

Holy god! Google loaded! What the heck? Google is working... but nothing else will! Perhaps over time they shall return!

Did you try restarting your computer?

Good luck :)

The power of panic! Nope, I have not. I'm afraid that may sever the connection between my computer and giantitp... Let's see what happens...

Don't use IE, not unless you have a holy symbol between you and the computer. This might belong in board issues anyway. The second sentence is the only one in this post that has any point at all.

When the vast internet, with its trillions of sites is blocked from me with the exception of this one site, I don't think I could stand waiting ever so patiently for days and days for a response in that fetid Board Issues that no one checks anymore :( but I guess I shouldn't post here ANYWAY since I don't think anyone would know how to solve my problem... I guess I should've avoided making this thread at all and try to make the most of my time by posting...

UPDATE: The internet randomly came back! Woohoo!

Lets see... YOUR INTERNET CONNECTION BLEW, and therefore only SITES YOU HAD ALREADY LOADED were available to you as they were in the temp. internet files :s. Thats my theory anyway

Spyware and viruses. It's happened to me before.

That's a theory, but I also had Photobucket and battleon out, and they stopped working while giantitp did not. Also, after restarting my computer, www.giantitp.com would not load while giantitp.com would, meaning I couldn't get into the forums without carefully navigating to the log-in page. (Copy link location, paste to address bar, delete www.)

Scan your computer for viruses and spyware. Do a disk cleanup and then defrag your computer. Then restart it and you should be ready to go.

But all of this happened right after I cleaned up my computer?

Then I think your antivirus program is out of date or something. Anyway, *casts Summon Mod V* this really belongs in board issues, IMHO. The mods may have a different opinion, of course.

Um...it is in Board Issues. And sorry Adghar, don't really know how to help you there. :-/

EDIT: Nevermind, please disregard my stupidity.

I'm with Le4dGOLEM on this one. I have a wireless connection, and it goes wonky on me all the time. Mostly, it kind of flickers for about 5 seconds, but your situation, adghar, has happened to me before.

"Why is only giantitp loading?".... It's my homepage and my history was clear.....the only loaded site there was.

If he were viewing the page from cache then he wouldn't see our replies.

I'd call your ISP (Internet Service Provider) and see if they are aware of any problems.

And despite people's disparaging comments, try IE. It's not the best browser out there, but aside from being bloated it's not bad and it won't hurt you or your computer.

Without knowing a lot about internet service, it sounds a little like a DNS problem - that's something on your ISP's end.

Also try disabling your personal firewall in XP and lower your security in firefox (and/or IE) and if you use a hardware router/firewall, remove that and connect directly to the internet without it. These are all things on your end that can mess up your connection.

Good luck!

Sorry, Aghdar, we're not doing any hijacking here, so it's not a problem with this site. If firefox isn't working but IE is, then it's probably NOT a dns problem. If both aren't working, you might consider checking the contents of your 'hosts' file (do a search for a file titled "hosts") and make sure that nothing odd is in there (usually, very little should be in there). Frequently, spyware will make changes to those files to redirect certain websites to locations of the hijacker's chosing.

I found that this procedure normally works to fix all internet problems:

1. try connecting again (F5 button)
2. close all internet windows
3. try connecting again (re-open internet)
4. disconect from network
5. re-connect to network
6. try connecting again (re-open internet)
7. reboot
8. try connecting again (re-open internet)
9. scan for spyware ande viruses
10. try connecting again (re-open internet)
11. reboot
12. try connecting again (re-open internet)
13a. reset the router
13b. reset cable/dsl/phone modem
13c. reset wireless
14. try connecting again (re-open internet)
15. reboot
16. try connecting again (re-open internet)
17. repeat steps 12 thru 16 until internet works

that didn't take too long did it?
