I know that V has no gender, and never will, but I figured this was quite amusing:

Sure, the Giant says that certain characters will refer to V based on what they him/her as, BUT what if the Giant referred to V as she or he?

He does so here. (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=211493&postcount=201)

That's probably before he was considered androgynous. Early comics, he WAS male, or so I'm told.

Also, formal english says to use "he" rather than he/she for unknowns.

Another V thread blasted, 5 points :)

Yes he was male, but at that point, people were referring to him/her as s/he (check what the Giant quoted.)

As for your second point: Bah, who needs formal english when you've got leetspeak?

Arrrgh.

The Giant explicitly stated somewhere (I'll find it sometime if you want me to) that he only uses "he" because it's easier than all the him/her stuff and because "he" is okay as a gender neutral pronoun in English.

Meh. I don't really care. I just thought it was a bit funny when I found it, and decided to share it with the playgrounders.

Do people even use leet speak seriously?

Kinda like the !!!!!111!!11one1! parodys. I've never seen a single person actually do that.

Doubt it, but I couldn't find another argument.

Xeno, thanks, I thought it was interesting.

Some do in online games. One sees "u" a lot for "you".

V became of unknown sex by the end of January 04, and this report was in 05, so this wasn't due to a later decision.

All joking aside, when I post, I usually (anymore) change the gender back and forth.
For instance, I would say "I think he [vaarsuvius] would rather learn and cast haste then have all her dreams rejected just because he has learned that her efforts are in vain. It's just the type of things she would do, or maybe that I would do if I were him."

It doesn't mean I consider her gender to change rapidly, just that I don't want to annoy people who believe that he is a she, or she is actually a he, or whatever. My personal belief? Doens't matter. Proof? All faulty.

As was posted once before (to paraphrase):

Steps to determining V's Gender:
1: Choose the gender you think V is.
2: Tell everyone else they're wrong.
3: PROFIT!

As far as I know, the 111!!11one112!! is always a parody. But I've seen less sophisticated online communities come dangerously close to it, in DoTA (a Warcraft 3 scenario), Counter-Strike, WoW, etc.

Such things as "!!!!1!!1!" can be legitamate, but something like "111!!!!!11" is more likely. If there's only a single 1, it's more likely to be a legitimate mistake. When you start spelling out things "!!!!one", or adding other numbers in there, there is an incredibly low chance of it being real.

This is my experience.
