View Full Version : I can no longer seem to alter the title of my thread.

I used to do so regularly, but as of the last few attempts, it's just failed. (This thread (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=90331).)

Is there a time or expenditure limit on changing the title, or is this a specific glitch?

40320 minutes, if I recall correctly, is the limit of editing a thread's title. After that, only moderators and admins are allowed to change them.

Thanks. So that's... 672 hours, which is about... a month, right?

28 days.

Out of curiosity, why? What's the reason for putting a time limit on how long you can edit thread titles?

I'd guess it's a server load issue due to how data is stored. Every time I edit an older thread it seems to take slightly longer.

When the subject first came up, the response is that the current board software forces a limit. It cannot be set to have no limit.

In any case, if you need a title change, you can ask one of the moderators for the forum the thread is in to do it for you.

Correct and correct. Due to a limitation in the board software, a limit has to be set. The setting of '0', which is usually infinite for vBulletin, is actually 0 minutes.

Would -1 cause the server to implode? :smalltongue:

Won't work. We even have official word from Jelsoft that a limit has to be set.

I'll just have to make my thread title changes less flippantly from now on, I guess.

So could I PM a mod to have a thread title changed? I have one in mind, but I'm not sure if it's mod worthy task.

Sure. Technically, we don't really recognize ownership of threads. But if it's a reasonable request (like you want to change the name of the PbP game you're DMing, for example), it's certainly something we'd be happy to do for you.

I assume that the 28 days thing is actually the maximum limit, and not some crazed zombie conspiracy.

Yup .

Is it necessary to be the creator of a thread in order to be allowed to request a thread name change?

(If not, I would like to humbly request a change of the name of this thread (WarCraft GitP Group (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58027)) to "GitP WarCraft 3: The Frozen Throne group", in order to differentiate it more clearly from the World of WarCraft thread)

I petitioned for the OOTS Character Deaths thread name to include a spoiler warning when Start of Darkness came out because people were posting about all the deaths that happened there, and it was granted. I'm sure that they are open to any reasonable request, seeing as how threads aren't "owned" by their creators.

Alright, thank you.
