Why do I have the dreaded red x as an avatar? Is it possible to add a no avatar option?

Honestly, I don't know how to set it for no avatar; maybe Rawbear can come along and tell us. But if you want an avatar linked from another site, there's a good chance it won;t show up. There is another thread on the Board Issues board discussing it:

That's a function of EZBoard trying to normalize the size of avatar images. The image itself is 1 pixel in size.
