View Full Version : What's good music for fighting Tiamat?

Hey all,

So tomorrow I'm throwing my group against Tiamat's Aspect, and I thought I'd get some good background music for the battle. I don't usually play music during the game, but I always have my computer around and I thought I'd make an exception for the epic Big Boss Fight.

Anyway, my usual ideas for background music are of course leaning in the direction of video game RPG soundtracks, but I figured I'd see if anyone has any particular suggestions? Thanks

LOL

While that would be kinda funny, sadly, I am the only DBZ fan in my group. Plus, it's not really the "epic confrontation" feel that I was going for. :smallwink::smalltongue:

Esper Battle from Final Fantasy XII.

Actually, that's pretty good for any epic fight.

The Escape from Xenosaga. Also great.

"One Winged Angel", but overdub the shouts of "Sephiroth!" with "Tiamat!" yourself.

Ahem. Real suggestions to come.

Some of the Golden Sun Boss Battle music (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTnJVNYCW6g)is quite epic.

Duel of the Fates could work as well.

This!. It's awesome. Any battle music from Final Fantasy would be good though.

Okay, for real this time, a trawl of TVTropes comes up with this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QI-pG-ii26Y) (and others under that submitter's name may also be good), this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KA1YYIDgRP0), and the suggestion to dig out some cool classical music (Dies Irae, Ave Satani, that sort of thing).

Oh don't go the Orff route. If it sounds like the Excalibur soundtrack, avoid with prejudice. O Fortuna has become a parody of itself.

How about a little Dream Evil - Chosen Ones

We are the chosen ones,
we sacrific our blood,
we kill for honor

We are the chosen ones,
our armor stained in blood,
we slay the dragon

Has lyrics, but is suitably epic, and the lyrics are entirely appropriate.

And again.

I never said these are fitting for this battle. I said they're better than 1WA. And if the techno remix of Fighting the Spirit isn't to your tastes... there are different ones, even metal. All of them rock, although not as much as the original SNES version which is nowhere to be found on youtube. Sadly.

The original SNES version? This is it, I believe. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EPYrRV59E2s) Although some of the instrument voices seem cut... this one (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jVPrt25t7XE) has all voices but is an actual battle clip.

My picks:

Xenosaga Episode I: Der Wille zur Macht - The Escape (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6JDKGL7wBUs)

Final Fantasy XII - Esper Battle (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oqD1GsdnHBk)

First one's evil, menacing and brassy. Second one has a chorus voice, piercing tubular bell strikes and a martial drumbeat.

FFXII's Esper Battle is definitely a good one, but there's also the Black Mages' cover of FFVI's "Dancing Mad (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lp46nNt_FIE)," from the final battle with Kefka. It has the advantage of being fairly long, so you won't have to loop quite as much (assuming that's what you do), and of being associated with a Big Bad whom old-time gamers really love to hate.

All of the Black Mages' covers are fairly long. Sadly, Battle on the Big Bridge and Seymour Battle don't lend themselves well to a fight with Tiamat.

Perhaps their cover of Zeromus, The Extreme or even J•E•N•O•V•A would be more appropriate.

Dancing Mad shifts tone far too much to be thematically relevant to Tiamat. The slow, churchy organ in particular is off. Also, their cover uses a cheesy electric organ in the last segment.

The original was in fact most awesome though. And I again urge those who have never heard it to try "The Escape."

Mr. Bookworm: Dead on. :smallcool:

Worira: Thank you. That is awesome.

Dark Funeral's, Secrets of the Dark Arts.
Or Cradle of Filth's cover of, Hell Awaits.
Or Behemoth's Prometherion.
Or Cradle of Filth's Funeral in Carpathia.

Dreadful Fight (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DvJkKwk8qYE&fmt=18), AKA Four Lords of the Elements (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8vz186pjY0), from FF IV.

Here's Zeromus, by Black Mages (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dD7x0ZHAqkw), and the DS arrangement (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jUGoPBQmVVs&fmt=18).

The old remix "Zeromus Essence of Odium" is the best version of it that I've ever heard. Not on Youtube, though.

Lol @ Sigma music.

from FFIV, I'd suggest Another Moon during passage through the Dungeon, Golbez during the summoning/manifestation, and Dread battle for the actual battle, with The Paladin if they win, More Tears if they loose. these are the DS names btw.
