View Full Version : AAARG!!! I need a new oots!

I wanted to open this thread for those who, like me, feel pain when there are not enough new oots to satisfy our hunger of passionate readers (which means, less than a dozen updates a day).

With that I do NOT intend to criticize Rich's work, or discuss the update schedule. I believe he's doing a good job and we can't expect anything more from him. If you feel different, please post someplace else.

So that would be a pointless rant, just like complaining about the wheater. The point is, you don't complain about the wheater because you believe that someone should change it, but because it's refreshing and makes you feel better. That's exacty what you are supposed to do in this thread.

I read the rules, and I don't think that will break them, since nobody here is complaining or suggesting anything, at least not seriously. I hope the mods agree; otherwise, please be gentle on me, I did it with the best intentions.

Oh the pain, the pain of turning on my pc and don't find a new oots!
GAAAAAHHH!!!! I want OOTS!! Rich should update every hour, night included!
What does he need sleep for, anyway?

See it this way: We know that OotS has a planned ending. If Rich would post every day, it would be over rather quickly (in three months? In a year?).

Now you can be sure you'll still get your new OotS once in a while in two or three years. Seems to be a rather valid price, no? ;)

(And yes, I also want more comics. Everyday. Twice.) :)

I know, I know, there's suffering in it anyway.

I am with you. I look for OOTS every day (sometimes more than once a day). When it is there---it has a relaxing, pleasing affect. When it is not there, I am edgy and irritated.
Hmmm...
Maybe I should look into some good pharmaceuticals...

Try rereading the older comics for your daily shot of oots :smallwink:

It helps and you will probably notice things you have had read over in the past.

What you guys need is an animated GIF that reveals the new comic at a rate of one scanline per minute

Oh god no. I had enough trouble reading Akward Zombie that way when it was super-slow after VGcats linked them. Must... not... look... until... panel... is... done...!

Srsly, it's like a spoiler when you read the text of a panel before the art is visible, and vice-versa. Bugs the crap out of me. :smalltongue:

I feel your pain. I check OotS at least ten times a day when an update is overdue... And about five times a day when it isn't. XD I'm seriously hooked on this.

As others mentioned, re-reading comics may ease your pain, but personally I have found great satisfaction in looking at new OotS-related material.

Check out the fanart (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=79951) thread if you haven't already - there are some truly amazing works here.

And here's the unfortunately still very meagre collection of OotS fanfiction (http://www.fanfiction.net/search.php?field=text&plus_keywords=order+of+the+stick&minus_keywords=&categoryid=64&languageid=0&censorid=0&statusid=0&sort=0&genreid=0&subgenreid=0&characterid=0&subcharacterid=0&words=0)...

And if you're really desperate, you might venture a glance at the House of Fanservice (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=51611) and House of Horrors (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=73705) No, actually, forget that last part. You really don't want to see that. And if my reluctant attempt at reverse psychology succeeds, at least have a tub of acid ready. For your brain. Trust me, it'll hurt less that way.

Some stuff you may or may not find interesting:
An interview with Rich (kind of old, but interesting anyway): http://sequentialtart.com/article.php?id=467

The OOTS board game info:

The awesome thing about that page is, you can download the rulebook and there's some funny things the characters say on the sides of pages. Anyone who owns the game won't care, but other people may find it interesting.

A comic where different webcomic artists did an individual frame, guess which one Rich did:

Ok here's what you do:

1) If you don't have a job as an exec for a major news paper or magazine, quit.
2) Find, befriend, and marry the daughter of a major newpaper or magazine exec who isn't above practicing nepotism.
3) Ask and get a job that fast tracks you into an executive suite.
4) Offer Rich a syndicated daily column.
5) Enjoy.

Having a little trouble getting past step 1 myself...

And here's my poor contribution to the meager collection...

Spoiler warning. Are you sure you want to read it? If you do, then go read it here (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?p=5160691#post5160691) in the giantitp forum or here (http://www.fanfics.org/fanfiction/detail/116) at the new fanfics.org.

I've actually read the one from "No 4th Wall to Break," but I didn't get the 404 message when I tried to access the 600th comic.

Also, to help you cope with this haitus problem, I suggest reading xkcd (http://www.xkcd.com), where updates are predictable because he says so. (Also, it addresses issues that your type would be interested in.) Click here if you're still unsure, you'll be staying in the same forums.:smallwink:
And after that, you could just flood Burlew's inbox with e-mails just to annoy him.

Also, HAPPY SEVENTH DAY OF THE ORDER OF THE STICK HIATUS! /me laughs manically. Wonder if it will go for another week?

I am currently seeking research funding to prove my theory:

The length between strip postings is directly proportional to the amount of awesomenesses in the strip.

I expect that I should be swimming in gp soon.

I do it on a regular base. I read it at least half a dozen times.

I also tought about that. There is hope!

I also tried to not read new comics so I can read a bunch of them in a row, but it didn't worked: the scenario was
My pc is on. I just need to open firefox and see if there is new oots.
I won't do it. I want to read more in a row.
Just a click, and I'll see
No.
I'm curious. Very curious.
Can't ... resist ...
Ok, made a will saving throw for not checking for updates. CD 15.
Crap, I have the the "very curious" template and the "unable to resist temptations" template. That's about a -10.
WOOT! Natural 20! I don't need to watch for updates!
Few hours later...
Maybe there is a new oots...

God you people are addicted. It's like you can't even...
Even...
... My hands are NOT shaking because there's no new OOTS. It's because of my lack of nicotine.
My eye is not twitching because of my lack of OOTS! It is because of my lack of cocaine.
...
But yeah, those hundreds of people I violently killed and rolled in blankets are because of the lack of OOTS.
I'm slowly moving up to where you live, Rich. Be warned.

I just spend time poking around on the forums if there's no new strip.

Discussion of the timing of strips is not permitted, since the update schedule is effectively, "Whenever Rich can manage to make a new one." Complaining or griping about it will not change that.
