Is there a throwers handbook?

You mean a guide to people who want to specialise in Thrown Weaponry?

Not that I know of.

Damn that sucks.

Did you have any idea about what type of weapon you wanted to specialise in? Maybe we can hammer something out.

I thought this thread will be about people who throw books around during sessions...

While there's no such book, there are feats and classes that improve throwing here and there. The best feat is probably Brutal Throw, which lets you use strength for both attack and damage when throwing, and the best class is Bloodstorm Blade from Tome of Battle.

Or did you mean a book that you can throw at your enemies?

No i was looking for some thing similar to the archery handbook only for thrown weapons...

Although making a character whos main weapon is a book would be pritty cool... Archivist any one... would almost seem like that anime... library or papermasters or some thing.

The Archivist Class used books as melee weapons in Final Fantasy III...:smalltongue:

I'm half tempted to make one. Don't know how good it would be.

You're thinking of Read or Die, maybe?

As for books to throw across the table, I recommend Burning Empires. It's an aerodynamic sort of size, heavy enough to do serious harm, and hardback so you can still play the game inside afterwards.

I like the throw the Tome of Battle. Its the perfect width to be thrown like a large ninja star, but still hard-cover.

But seriously, there's stuff like Brutal throw, power throw (Power attack on thrown weapons), throw anything, bloodstorm blade, hulking hurler. I can't remember all the books these are from, probably Complete Warrior or Complete Adventurer (Except for bloodstorm blade, which was mentioned earlier.)

Thank you potatocubed i was thinking of that...

I wonder if there are any optimized characters/builds with throw any thing.

Master Thrower is really worth it, I assure you. Augmented critical, and double your attacks if not adding Str to damage? Yes, please!

Which frees up a stat, making you Dex-based. Now, this is cool, because of a Dragon Compendium feat named Dead Eye Shot that lets you add Dex to damage at range, and Shadow Blade, which does not mention melee nor ranged as long as you use a SH weapon (which can be easily thrown, see below). Add on top two levels (or more) in Bloodstorm Blade, that nets you the awesome Melee Thrown and you do not even need Power Throw (you may use Power Attack directly). I once toyed the idea of making a Duskblade take this route - channel spells in your twin bastard swords that you toss around the battlefield, yay! - but I found out that it was only viable either in mid 30s, or gestalt. Too many levels needed.

Now, the build I would go for is something like this:
Warblade 1 / Fighter 2 / Warblade +2 / Master Thrower 5 / Bloodstorm Blade 2 / Swordsage 2 / Bloodstorm Blade +4 / Swordsage +2

Max Dex, TWF, Rapid Shot and all that, use Assassin's Stance and add 2x Dex to your ranged touch double tossing, high critting attacks!

Oh, and manoeuvres for even more fun, and Wis to AC, and Wis to damage with some strikes (Flashing Sun comes to mind). With a final Swordsage IL of 15 you can even put off a Raging Moongoose!

Master Thrower (Comp. Warrior) is solid, and with only 5 levels and prerequisites you'll probably pick up anyway its very easy to fit into build. It gives Quick Draw at first level and Improved Critical at level 5.

Whisper Knife (RotW) is a halfling-only class, but it does have some merits - slow sneak attack advancement, Rapid Shot as a bonus feat, some enhancements to Returning weapons, and other miscellaneous abilities. Decent, but not worth all ten levels.

Bloodstorm Blade (ToB), again, is really good, but also geared more towards the early levels. Gets Throw Anything and a couple of Fighter bonus feats, makes thrown weapon attacks count as melee attacks, and automatic non-magical returning of thrown weapons on your turn.

Halfling Paragon (here (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/races/racialParagonClasses.htm#halflingParagon)) is nifty for 3 levels - more Dex and +2 to thrown weapon damage.

Swashbuckler (Comp. Warrior) is nice - 3 will give you Int to damage with finesseable weapons, regardless if you use them in melee or ranged.

Swordsage (ToB) is great for getting free Weapon Focus and the Shadow Hand stance necessary for Shadow Blade (Dex to damage). Also, general awesomeness.

Fighter is nice for a dip - there are a lot of necessary feats for a thrower (Power Throw, Brutal Throw, various _____ Shot feats).

It all makes a great synergy with the Dagger, too - it's already able to be thrown; it's light, so you can use the Swashbuckler's Insightful Strike with it; it's a Shadow Hand weapon, so you can use Shadow Blade and the Swordsage's Insightful Strike as well; it is also eligible for the Master Thrower's Palm Throw (two daggers with every throw).

Edit:

Now, the build I would go for is something like this:
Warblade 1 / Fighter 2 / Warblade +2 / Master Thrower 5 / Bloodstorm Blade 2 / Swordsage 2 / Bloodstorm Blade +4 / Swordsage +2

I'd probably drop two Bloodstorm Blade levels and a Swordsage level, and replace them with Swashbuckler levels - Wis to Damage is nice, but you're only going to get it on one round/encounter. I think Int to damage constantly, even if it doesn't apply to anything immune to crits, might be a little better.
