Did you know that you can run 1,200 D&D miles per day at level 20 without any negative side effects?

Step 1: Take 20 levels on monk to up your base speed to 90 feet per round.
Step 2: Take the Dark template from Tome of Magic to up your base speed by 10 feet per round. Use LA buy off.
Step 3: Buy Boots of the Wanderer (page 138 Complete Champion).
Step 4: Take the Run feat.

Boots of the Wanderer says "While wearing the boots of the wanderer you automatically succeed on any constitution checks required for running or making a forced march".

With the run feat you run at x5 your base speed, which is 100 feet per round. That means you can move 500 feet per round. That is 5,000 feet per miniute, 300,000 feet per hour (50 MPH), or 1,200 MPH per day. Using the 6,000 foot D&D mile.

Even using a regular medium creature with no monk levels, no dark template, and no Run feat you can still run 288 miles per day (360 with the Run feat).

Chuck was still faster...at least until he tripped over CChampion errata and broke his neck...

Aside from starting an epic messenger service, what good would it do?

Not a whole lot in most games.

But if you are moving armies or the like and don't have access to teleportation circles it can become very nice. Kinda like whole warforged units are nice.

I'm not just any post-officer, I'm the POSTMASTER GENERAL!

It would still take 21 days to encircle the earth around the equator, however. Just goes to show how much smaller the D&D world tends to be compared to the real world.

If you have an army of 20th level characters, moving fast is the least of what you can do. I'll grant it's amusing though.

I was talking about the 288 miles a day one in regards to an army.

Isn't this why teleport was invented?

Run: A character can’t run for an extended period of time.
Attempts to run and rest in cycles effectively work out to a hustle.

If you want to run 1200 miles a day, you'll have to do it round by round of tactical movement, probably with a hostile creature stapled to your back in order to maintain the encounter. Admittedly, if you're going to do that, you might as well run for the full 24 hours. Travel 29,000 miles a day, one agonizing round after another.

Read the rules for Run. The only requirement to keep running is that you keep making the Fort save. The books negate the Fort save, allowing you to run all day.

Shouldn't jogging a casual few thousand miles do wonders for your Constitution?

That would be Chuck, as mentioned above. They errataed FotD so that it was Dismissable, thus becoming ineligible for Persistent.

Be a Catfolk and have even higher speed!

Say, would a Warforged Monk even *need* a book? Warforged don't ever get faituged or exhausted.

Persistent Cloud Charriot. 1 mile/round movement is nice.

Boots and yes. Because of how the Run rules work.

You can run for a number of rounds equal to your Constitution score, but after that you must make a DC 10 Constitution check to continue running. You must check again each round in which you continue to run, and the DC of this check increases by 1 for each check you have made. When you fail this check, you must stop running. A character who has run to his limit must rest for 1 minute (10 rounds) before running again. During a rest period, a character can move no faster than a normal move action.

A warforged can go 144 miles a day without a problem (hustleing).

Is that a Discworld reference?

Here we go. Dark Necropolitan Catfolk Barbarian 1/Scout 1 with the Quick trait, an item of +30 speed, Wild Talent, Speed of Thought and of course the Run feat. Base speed of 120, no Con score, so may be able to run forever(depending on how you read the rules). Level 4, though XP would be level 4+3,000.

Which is why they make excellent war machines.

Yep. And for 1.5k per man you can make better war machines out of any race.

Well at least better runners.

Is that a Discworld reference?
No. Unless it happens to be, in which case I'll take credit for it without knowing what I was taking credit for.

I just thought it would be amusing to juxtapose the awesome running force with the real-world practicality. Usually in D&D, there is some power that is minor in fantasy terms but world shaking in RL. For example, Cure Light Wounds.

Well... now he can use all that movement to try running around the world, invert its rotation, make time flows backwards (remember that?:smalleek:) and prevent himself from taking 20 levels in monk!:smalltongue:

But then he wouldn't be in the future to go bakc in time to stop him from being a monk! And the zombie apocalypse will destroy the world because noone else can run fast enough to knock them over, rendering them unable to do anything!
