Hello again, all. Once again recruiting someone with language skills that I lack.

Looking for someone with either Irish or Scottish Gaelic background (preferably Irish but I am infinetely flexible - i.e. I don't care too much) to help me name the upcoming fey villain on the Homebrew forum.

Anyone able, please drop me a PM. Thanks, all!

I have about one rank in Speak(Irish) from Secondary School: Could you describe your villain? We could come up with a name that suits him.

Do a "meaning" search for baby names. The origin of the name is usually listed. This site should do: http://babynamesworld.parentsconnect.com/ .

Example: http://babynamesworld.parentsconnect.com/search.php?p=meaning&r_meaning=1&s_mfilter=1&i_meaning=fire&i_nmeaning=&s_filter=14&filter_select=3

At this point, I don't have the final description set (the Motivation vote, which is the last component, starts running tomorrow). I was looking for a volunteer or two that I could contact once a few leaders appeared in that vote.

"Barry" does not a menace make.

"Barry" does not a menace make.

I've managed to make the name "Pugh" threatening. The party get worried every time they hear someone mention the guy.

Well yeah, sure, but "The Barry" does not have quite the ring to it that "The Morrigan" does.

I remember a TV villain called Barry Mafia. When I was little I used to hide from him when he came on screen.

I'm not trying to form some kind of argument but I suddenly remembered that guy and had an urge to post. And anywhere other than this thread and it would have been non-sequitur .

A quick Google search for "Gaelic names" turned up the following:

http://www.name-meanings.com/gaelic_name_meanings.php

http://www.namenerds.com/scottish/trad.html

http://www.20000-names.com/male_gaelic_names.htm

http://www.savegaelic.org/gaelic/scottish-gaelic-names.php

And those were among the first five or six links.

Again, you're all focusing too much on names. I'm looking for words. I don't want an Irish name, I want a compound Gaelic word. Something like a translated "Babykilling Nightswiller" or "Ratfaced Weaselbum"

Well, not like those, per se, but... you get the idea.

My other half speaks Irish Gaelic. I'll check with her tonite and see what she can come up with.

According to my source for all things celtic (Llodh Threefinger the Filthy Cow-stealing Gael Gallowglass), Gaelic's naught but random hollering, gesticulation, consonant replication and vowel abuse at the best of times. :smalltongue:

Go read "The Maginobion" or "The Book of Invasions" (delightful titled), or just skim over a few back-issues of 2000AD for "Slaine". Yoink ideas from those. Job done.

This (http://www.irishdictionary.ie/home) link should cover what you need.

I know enough Gealic to get myself in trouble, and thats it.
