Does anybody know of where one could find some adventures written for 3.5 (I guess more properly 3.x?) that would allow a mixed group of mostly new players to ease into the game before introducing the home-made adventure that's still being worked on?

The group I'm with played through the burning plague and made it to the boss fight of Sunless Citadel before falling apart due to various conflicts.

The Burning Plague is a pretty hard adventure if the adventurers are incautious. The kobolds completely destroyed one party of adventurers I ran through it. On the other hand, I also ran it with a different group, and they had a much easier time of things. You can read a bit about my experiences with it here (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18320).

Thanks for the RPG Now ones, I'd just barely stumbled upon two of those Necromancer modules on my own.

Yeah... Our sorcerer was dropped by the kobolds, then later a hawk that the boss-kobold had, and spent the boss-fight cowering in a corner with the ranger and paladin, waiting for the darkness to dissipate while the barbarian drowned and the clerics, rogue, and fighter were stuck in melee/being butchered. 8 level one characters and half of us were either dropped or... cowering in a corner. We had just enough cure spells to get everyone stabilized, but we had to spend an entire day resting in that chamber to be able to all walk out.

I ran Burning Plague a while back after a bit of adjusting to make it fit into the setting. The PCs were first time DnD players, and were absolutely destroyed when they decided the kobolds weren't worth talking to. It looked like they were going to go with diplomacy for a while--the bard was wanting to put that into play for a few minute. Then they as one decided "screw this," and the sorcerer promptly fried them all.

Still, fun times were had by all. I'd recommend it.

I'm partial to The Skullcrackers (http://0onegames.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=258) from 0one Games. But that's probably because I wrote the adventure and co-wrote the campaign setting it's based on. :smallwink:

If you fancy something more avant garde than normal but still a good introduction then I recommend Desire & the Dead (http://www.planewalker.com/files/Desire_And_The_Dead.pdf) for Planescape 3.5 - because I wrote it, and its designed for new players... and a new DM, for that matter. And its free

On the other hand, you should always support freelancers and small RPG companies - so I'll happily cheer for Zherog & Skullcrackers too.

No problem.

The stuff that legends are made of.

Whilst I have not read the adventure Zherog wrote, 0one Games are a pretty reliable company with high production values. The above linked Grave of the Prince of Lies is a free example of one of their products.

One that I recommend is "Red Hand of Doom" (an official WotC one, but I don't have the link with me)

It's a good adventure in terms of scale (goes level 4-8 roughly, but the PCs are essential in stopping a massive army), has some awesome RP moments that your characters can choose to pursue or not, and does a great job in letting the players feel like their actions in the war matter, even though they can't stand up to the army themselves.

Seriously, a great module.

That's funny you should mention the 'Red Hand of Doom'...we're actually playing that one currently.

Thanks for all the suggestions...but any more 4-6 level 1 party specific campaign suggestions?

just be sure when doing any adventure to consider any possibility. i was DMing Where Madness Dwells, and one of the players ended up becoming a patient in the asylum

One of the better effects of 4e's intro is the incredible drop in prices on 3.x material.:smallwink:

I'd recommend perusing amazon.com, with 'd20 module' in the search option.
Check the reviews on what comes up, which give some pretty good info.

I picked up RHoD for <$3, and four other modules for a total cost <$10.

that would be such a purely evil thing to do to a bunch of first timers.

So I recommend doing it.
