So this is how insomnia, boredom, some old worthless 3.5 minis, a USB drive, a xeto knife, and a dremel ends up.

Make the center eye a pencil sharpener.

LoL!

If I had another one, I so would.

You're not the only one who needs a girlfriend...

Doesn't really help all that much that my best friend is a girl.

Also, I can't quite figure out what the beholder? is doing.

The beholder is a USB drive.

I see at least one quote which is funnier out of context here.

Doesn't making the USB drive bigger and heavier kinda negate its purpose?

It looks awesome, but I'm having a hard time seeing how you can fit that in a USB port when the laptop is flat on the desk. :smallconfused:

Doesn't having a Beholder Minature with a USB Drive sticking out of it negate its purpose?

Put a led in the beholder's eye, so it lits up when you connect it
Some pendrives have a little light that lits up when they are connected. You could use those.

Thanks for the feedback and advice guys.

I liked the idea of using the LED. I do not know how to make LEDs work (I know you can get them at Radio Shack, though), but luckily that USB drive had one. When I made it I originally thought the light would be too small to light up his eye, so I dropped the idea. But I just reopened it and drilled out the to give it a try.

Here is the result:

LoL. I can't. Oops.

Oh well, I always use the cooling thing, so it is OK.

I also made a video game themed one for when I need one which can fit into a desktop, so it is all cool.

That totally rocks. I wish I had spare miniatures, but they're so darn hard to come across here that each one is precious. >_<

Well, I guess I can technically still use it. If it wasn't already "outdated" that is. :smallannoyed:

IN the D&D miniatures game, they retire sets like they do in Magic.

I'd have used it for a D&D game, but this is pretty damn awesome. Especially now that you've got the glowy-eye effect going.

I don't know if it's what you're talking about, but I think they talked in the most recent Dragon Mag about how after this Spring (I think) they're completely discontinuing the whole minis skirmish game. As in, they'll be going to non-random packs (or, at least, semi-non-random) and not sanctioning official D&D Miniatures tournaments after (I think) GenCon or D&D Experience or one of those big conventions.

As far as the USB drive goes, that's AWESOME. If I had that particular miniature (or any that would really work, I'd probably try the same. As for now fitting in the laptop anymore, just pick up a short USB cable extender and you should be set. I know I managed to get one that's only about three or four inches long or so.
