PS2 Controller Stupidity

Hey all, hope someone can help with this

My Dualshock 2 controller is utterly moronic: when playing FFXII, my Square button has stopped working, but my Start button works. When playing Mega Man Anniversary Collection, my Start button won't work, but my Square button does. When playing a DVD, these buttons work perfectly. Does anyone have any insight?

Is your controller old? The sensors might be worn down.

That's what I figured, but again: it seems to randomly (and consistently) pick a button to mess with depending on which game is in. I alternated between Mega Man and a movie DVD, and the Start button failed, worked, failed etc. consistently.

Honestly, I'd just replace it if it's that screwed up. It's no big deal and you might end up putting more stress on yourself trying to fix it would take to make 20-something bucks.

Does pressing harder make any difference? Are you a constant button-masher?
