Suppose you apply the sculpt spell metamagic feat (complete arcane) to the spell "cross of lightning" (book of eldritch might 1). The "cross of lightning" spell requires that you fire each bolt of lightning 90 degrees apart with respect to each other. Now, sculpt spell allows you to change the area that the spell affects. So, could you sculpt the cross of lightning area of effect into four 10 foot cubes, each one an identical distance away and 90 degrees apart, and aim each of these as per the cross of lightning spell description, and have four lightning bolts hit each of the four 10 foot cubes? (each of the lightning bolts has a ten foot cube rotated away such that when you rotate the lightning bolt as per spell description, it hits the original target)

Um, don't have that book, but you might want to check the spell discription to see if it does in fact have an area entry. It has to have an area entry to be scupltable. Make sure it doesn't say "effect: cross of lightning" or something like that, because then it is not scuptable for the same reason that Whirling Blade is not sculptable.

If it does have an area entry, and it does fall into the catagories that sculpt covers, then it would completely supercede any shape it may have and only take up the 4 10' cubes, which can't be overlapped, per the discription of Sculpt Spell. It wouldn't extend out of the 10' cube area regardless of what the origional spells area was.

The area description says: Four bolts, 5 feet wide to medium range...

kk, that settles it then. It does not qualify for Sculpt Spell. Sculpt is actually pretty limiting on what you can use it on. It has to have an area entry, and in that entry it must mention one of the 4-5 properties mentioned in the feat discription, like Cone, Line, Burst, etc.
