In this thread, if an important person was either born or died on your birthday, tell us! Mine are:
Beethoven. I can't remember if if my birthday is also his, or if he died on mine.
That chick who plays Eowyn in LotR. Naomi Watts?

Anyone else?

I don't know any people who share mine, but I have a friend who shares his birthday with Hitler. We tease him endlessly about it.

Do states count? If so, Montana's birthday as a state is apparently November the 8th...

Otherwise... I've got Vlad the Impaler... and if that's not enough...

Edmund Halley, Milton Bradley (yeah, that guy), Bram Stoker (Vlad and Dracula's creator...), Hermann Rorschach (inventor of the Rorshach test), Tara Reid

.... 1970 - Tom Anderson, co-founder of MySpace (Oh god...:smalleek:)

As far as deaths... John Milton should do it.

Though one guy, Bucky Harris, managed to have both his day of birth and death day on the 8th. Baseball player, apparently.

I checked and... No one interesting died or was born on my birthday :smallfrown:
There were only about two or three names I even recognized on the list mainly because they had something named after them, but their impact or notoriety isn't that huge.

Tennyson apparently died on my -177th birthday.

Also, two nobel laureates were born on my birth date and three died.

Oh wow, apparently on my 21st this badass (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jason_Lewis_(adventurer)) finished his muscle-powered trip around the world. That is awesome.

Hmm. The most interesting person I know who shares a birth date with me is Julius Caesar; Dictator.

I'll have to make a note to avoid crossing the Rubicon and people named Pompey or Brutus.

We probably share a birthday. Although Julius Caesar's date of birth is not known for certain. (And the calendars have been changed since then.)

I was a little bummed that no popes were born or died on my birthday. I'll have to fix this by becoming pope.

...I guess if I wanted to become pope, I should have started working on it a little earlier.

I don't know any people who share mine, but I have a friend who shares his birthday with Hitler. We tease him endlessly about it.

Mine is shared with Sadam Hussein. It makes you wonder about the validity of the horoscopes in the back of the paper....

(Well, was shared now I guess.)

Share a birthday with Peter Sellers.

But, since you meant famous people, I also share a birthday with Midnight Son.

And my friend. There's an interesting story, but we discovered—after we'd known each other for six months—that we were the exact same age; it was quite the coincidence.

Without looking at Wikipedia, I know I share a birthday with a crazy Roman emperor, and since someone already said Caligula, I'm going to go with Nero. Isn't he the guy who rode his horse across a bay on a pontoon bridge? That sounds right...

I know Princess Diana died on my 9th birthday. That was a not so great birthday...

Also, Jack the Ripper killed his first victim(or the first victim attributed to Jack died), I want to say 100 years to the day before I was born. But I'll check and see here in a sec.

EDIT: So it actually was Caligula. My mistake... Also born on my b-day(people I recognized): Itzhak Perlman, Van Morrison, Hideo Nomo(Baseball Player), Andrew Cunanan(the man who killed Versace), Padraig Harrington(Irish Golfer), Chris Tucker, Scott Niedermayer(Hockey Player), Andriy Medvedev(Tennis Player), Ian Crocker(Swam for USA at the Olympics), and Chris Duhon(American basketball player for Duke).

Some interesting deaths: I mentioned Diana, but also Henry V, and Rocky Marciano... Yeah, apparently my birthday is very popular for being born, not so much for dying... Altho Diana and Henry V is like a royal 1-2

Also, Knattspyrnufélag Reykjavíkur (Iceland's first football club) was founded on my birthday in 1899. HELL YEAH!

Hmm, September 2.

Births:
Apparently, I share my birthday with, among others, Keanu Reeves, Lennox Lewis, and Salma Hayek. Not too bad, I guess.

Deaths:
Here we have a lot of people, a roman emperor, a hungarian saint, a japanese shogun, an ethiopian emperor, a swedish statesman, an Emperor Palpatine... eh, I mean Elector Palatine, a chinese emperor, the founder of the modern Olympic Games... What do we have in more modern times? Hm, Ho Chi Min is there, and Tolkien, then no more I can say recognize.

Peter Sellers (http://http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Sellers) a comedian of the goon show fame. It saddens me that such a good program has been all but forgotton by the british public when some of the 2 series run programs by pythons are still a common name in households across the uk.

EDIT: oh and also, he was the first man to appear on the cover of playboy magazine. The things a wiki tells you...

Eh, Peter Sellers died on that day. Awesome actor. Here in Germany he is best known for the Inspector Clouseau/Pink Panther movies, and of course for Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb.

Also famous as one of the Goons. Marvellous voice actor. When he was absent the BBC had to get 8 people in to do his voices for The Goon Show.

Births: Ian Fleming and Kylie Minogue!
And from much earlier, King George I of England and Pitt the Younger.

Deaths: Anne Bronte. That's pretty much all I recognise from the Wikipedia list...

Important Events: 585 BC - A solar eclipse occurs, as predicted by Greek philosopher and scientist Thales, while Alyattes is battling Cyaxares in the Battle of the Eclipse, leading to a truce.
WWII: Belgium surrenders to Germany
1942 - World War II: in retaliation for the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich, Nazis in Czechoslovakia kill over 1800 people.
The British defeated the Argentines at the Battle of Goose Green...
And most recently, Nepal is formally declared a republic. Yay war and freedom!

I claim September the second as my date of birth.

Which means I share a birthday with Keanu Reeves (for whatever that's worth :smallamused: ).

Unfortunately, my birthday also happens to be the day J.R.R. Tolkien passed away. :smallfrown:

My grandfather on my mother's side died on my 13th birthday. He was nobody of historical importance ... well, but important for me and my existence.

Wikipedia is mighty helpful ...

I share my birthday with the following people (just some of those that I recognized while going through the list):

Emily Dickinson, Nelly Sachs, Kenneth Branagh, Brian Molko, Meg White

And these died on my birthday (just some of those that I recognized while going through the list):

Alfred Nobel, Otis Redding, Edward D. Wood Jr, Richard Pryor, Augusto Pinochet

Huh. So do I.

We probably share a birthday. Although Julius Caesar's date of birth is not known for certain. (And the calendars have been changed since then.)

Awesome.

Damn those Optimates!

Hi

Apparently Courtney Cox was born seven years after me, on June 15th.

Far more importantly my birthday is also the anniversary of the signing of one of the world's most important Civil Rights documents.......

Magna Carta, June 15th 1215. (Habeas Corpus, plus right to trial by peers, etc).
No - I wasn't there, I just feel that old! :smalleek:

Probably explains why I'm so involved in my local community

Cheers
Paul H
Edit: 33 days after I was born the Magna Carta Memorial was unveiled at Runnymede. Paid for by about 9,000 US lawyers to acknowlege the importance Magna Carta played in US Constitution.

Al Qaeda was formed on the exact day I was born.

Nobody too interesting was born ... deaths ... uh ... Leonidas, king of Sparta. I'm sure that would mean something to me if I were just slightly more of a nerd. Edith Wharton (boy did I hate Ethan Frome). Jackson Pollock.

Apparently it's also the feast day of Saint Attracta. That would make a great drag name.

Without checking Wikipedia, I know that I share my birthday with Dolly Parton, Louis Armstrong, the late Queen Mother of England, and Barack Obama. Don't recall any celebrity deaths, except that my birthday is the anniversary of Lizzie Borden killing her family.

And this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXn2QVipK2o) is Peter Sellers. My goodness, what *are* they teaching in the schools these days?

ETA: and this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rZBA0SKmQy8) is Leonidas.
