edit* also human starting age can be as low as 16 i believe so by 19 you could easy be the appropriate level. adn as mentioned if daddy is the leader the girl is surely going to get some nice gifts

This seems to make sense to me. I did think of the boots of speed the moment I saw the boots. But I think the main point of them being that color is because it has already been established that Haley does not like it.
