I was directed here by the official DnD forums to look for game. But will someone set up a game that will help learn how to play this game?

Let me welcome you to this forum:biggrin:. It is full of great people that can answer many questions.

I think you have come to the right place. This forum section is for DnD based questions like how to build a great cleric ect.

If you actually want to play a game you might try another forum.

There is one in the Play-By-Play section. It has game recruiting. I have never tried it personally, but I am sure if you tell people that you are very new to the game they will help you with your first game.

This sub forum (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=51), specifically. Poke around, and you'll find something

MY Advice

1. Get your hands on a PHB or go to D20srd.org, read through the rules there.
2. Find a game with a patient DM or other experienced players who are willing to explain things to you, don't be afraid to ask questions.

There're learning games for new players around here every now and then. So keep an eye out at the PbP area and see if someone is hosting one. And as said, all the material you need for playing can be found at D20 SRD (http://www.d20srd.com/).

Ok so Dnd is very easy to play, a lot of fun the only hard part is creating a character but the most fun in my opinion (in my spare time i try to create a full character in less than 10 minutes). Decide on what you want as a character. Ie A Fighter, Wizard, or a more skill based class such as Rogue or Bard. Basically your options are limitless as there is every possible class you can think of. Generally playing is easy as well and it usually goes like this...

Dm "You enter a large cavern with multiple doors leading to other places, rubble is scattered along the floor. What do you do?"
You "I choose to check the room for treasure"
Dm " Roll a search check"
You " I get a 17"
Dm " You find 150 gp in a small bag, Unfortunately you are ambushed by a giant spider. You take 5 damage"
You "I attack the spider with my sword. I rolled a natural 20 woot! I roll my D6 die for damage i get 4 x 2 for a crit i get 8 damage"
Dm " The spider clicks its pincers as it withdraws from this vicious counterattack."
You " Hurrah! I choose to leave the room through the east door..."

That is generally how it goes and is very easy to play. If you are worried about screwing up choose an easy character to use which is generally a Fighter. Just get together with some people in a group with one experienced person to DM. Playing is the easiest way to learn. Good luck:smallsmile:

I'll volunteer to run a solo campaign; just add me on MSN or AIM (I also have an old yahoo account, and I've been meaning to get a google talk, so those can be dredged up if needed)
