The rule is that you need 1000 * your current level in order to level up. 2d level will be at 1000 XP, 3d at 3000, and so on.

That depends on the character levels of the kobolds. A standard kobold (which might or might not be what a "kobold trapmaker" is) has a challenge rating of 1/4, which will give you 75 XP apiece. A kobold monk has the CR of its class level. Specifically, a 1st level monk kobold would be worth 300 XP.

All this is of course assuming 3.5.

There is an XP calculator in the SRD: link (http://www.penpaperpixel.org/tools/d20encountercalculator.htm)

And the XP you need for a level is (1+2+3+...+N) x 1000 XP to get to level N+1, so:
2nd: 1000
3rd: 3000
4th: 6000
5th: 10000...

PS: You get a bonus feat at the 1st level and every three levels (1st, 3rd, 6th, 9th and so on), and an ability score bonus every 4 levels (4th, 8th, 12th and so on).
