A practise fight for the arena: My character Nemonus (http://www.coyotecode.net/profiler/view.php?id=5428) versus KevLar's character Stella (http://www.thetangledweb.net/forums/profiler/view_char.php?cid=19531).

A towering figure in a dark robe enters the room where you have been milling around sizing up the competition. His face is completely obscured by his hood. He raises both hands to get your attention and speaks in a deep voice.
Sam, Camael. You have been chosen to fight. Prepare yourselves!
With that he brings his hands down and the two of you find yourself transported to the arena (http://excessivefreetime.org/arena/arena3.html)

OOC:
You've got time for one swift action and one standard action before you get transported in case you need to adopt a stance or activate an item.

On the map, green is open terrain, yellow is difficult terrain, red/brown is the cliffs (10ft, Climb DC20, blocks LoS). Arena has a 60 foot ceiling.

Opening post should have an initiative roll, anything you said after he called your name and what, if anything you did with the 'surprise round' before being transported. After that, start fighting in initiative order.

[[ Positions: Nemonus AA16, Stella E6 ]]

=====================================

Stella

OOC: Wow, that took a while. I hope the boards are up and running now. Your turn. :)

Naturally, I forgot to roll Crusader maneuvers. In order, as they are written in the character sheet:
[roll0]
[roll1]
...and a third, just in case I get the same number twice

Nemonus appears in a relatively smooth patch of rocky ground, but he is surrounded by many rocks, which would make it difficult to traverse. After looking around for a moment he spots the ephemeral sight that is Stella over 100 feet away, and resolves he must fight her.

Free Action: Declare Stella the Target of my Shield Block ability. Total Shield Bonus to AC now +17
Swift Action: Declare a Fighting Challenge against Stella. +3 to attack/damage rolls against her for 12 rounds. 13 Knight's Challenge uses left.
Move Action: Swap Lifedrinking Crystal on Sword with Truedeath Crystal.

Stella dodges the blow, and flies 10 ft backwards and up. Then she descends again, diving at the paladin. She strikes once, on the move, and ends up over a nearby rock, where she seems to disappear.

This attack ignores armor, natural armor and shield. (That includes any DR these may have due to a special material, but I'm not too sure about DR due to magical properties.)

Last known position: U12
Hide check: [roll2]
Make a spot check and continue reading if successful:[/I]
You saw Stella hiding inside the rock at V12
Note : You can take AoO when Stella first leaves from S13 but not after the attack.

End of Round 2.

Nemonus screams in pain.

[roll0]

Assuming he survives, Nemonus realises he's not getting anywhere with his weapon, and adopts a different tactic. He decides to pump the healing energy Herioneous has granted him into his foe. If that doesn't stop her, nothing will.

Touch Attack. If it hits, it delivers my entire Lay On Hands healing pool as damage to Stella

Attack Modifier: +15 (BAB) +5 (Strength) +3 (Fighting Challenge) = +23

[roll1]
Damage - 105

KevLar

Whoops, I accepted your attack would hit in a pavlovian response. :smalltongue:

[roll0]
[roll1]

Stella's attack glances off Nemonus' shield. He decides to try and lay his healing power on her again. He knows one more hit can end him, so he needs to end the fight now.

[roll2]
Damage - 105

KevLar

OOC: His shield? All of Stella's attacks ignore armor, natural armor and shield (sorry if I didn't make that clear, it's a permanent ghost thing, not something I can turn on and off). Or was that simply a fluffy description, and the attack doesn't hit even so?

Also, this touch attack, is it with your weapon somehow? Because if it is, fine (though it doesn't hit), but if it isn't - I don't think you can. Stella is incorporeal, you can't touch her with anything material (including your hand) unless it has the Ghost Touch ability.
It doesn't make any difference in this case, I'm just curious. :)

Sorry, forgot the ignore AC stuff. I am re-deaded, and you have won. (Again)

RMS Oceanic, thank you for my very first unofficial Arena Match!
(And now I'm opening the spoilers, I'm so curious.)

You're welcome.

And for the record, I checked the FAQ thread in the main Gaming Forum: Lay On Hands can hit incorporeal targets.

KevLar
2008-11-21, 11:07 AM
Really? I didn't know that. You know, if you happened to hit back then, I'd be down in a single round. Ouch.

And for the record, I checked the FAQ thread in the main Gaming Forum: Lay On Hands can hit incorporeal targets.
Hmm... I found the thread, and though I generally find Duke of URL's answers very reliable and to the point, with that one I'll disagree. Here's my emphasis to the quote.

An incorporeal creature has no physical body. It can be harmed only by other incorporeal creatures, magic weapons or creatures that strike as magic weapons, and spells, spell-like abilities, or supernatural abilities. It is immune to all nonmagical attack forms.
That means that Lay of Hands can indeed harm and deal damage to an undead creature... if the touch attack hits.

Using lay on hands in this way requires a successful melee touch attack.
The touch attack itself isn't a supernatural ability, it's only what is required in order to use Lay of Hands. And if your touch attack can't affect incorporeal creatures (there are ways around that, by the way), then you won't get the chance to use Lay of Hands. If you do get the chance, I agree. It's a supernatural ability, it deals positive damage, therefore it hurts us. It hurtsssss ussssssssss. :smalltongue:
