Life aboard the Vanya Vaile is much like any other for her sailors. Backbreaking work, dangerous sea monsters and a scant promise of gold is their lot in life. However, this “Beautiful Angel” is more then just a mere vessel and her captain is more than a mere pirate. The daughter of the famous bard Calvin Cartwright and his eleven sweetheart, beloved saint of the God of Storms Valanthe Meliamne, Valentine Stormbred seeks to clear the seas of the evil pirates that plague her, thus continuing the good work done by her parents. Many heirlooms, including her vessel itself, assist her in completing this goal.

Valentine stands easily at the helm of her beloved ship, eyes keenly foucused on the horizon.

“Pirates! Dead ahead! Swords at the ready, boys! We’ll show these wretches what their bloodthirsty lives have earned them!”

It is said that Valentine was born during a terrible thunderstorm, something her mother saw as a great sign. Throughout her childhood, Valentine showed her great spirit, wild and untamed as the storms themselves. In demeanor she is the spitting image of her courageous and occasionally pompous father and in conviction she has the spirit of her valorous mother.

Violet eyes glittering and shaking the sea spray from her pale green hair, Valentine calls out to her crew.

“Look lively, gentleman! Do you want me to do it for you? Now put yer backs into it lest we get sucked down to the deep! I hope you’re not afraid of a little rain!”

Pirate Hunter
“Throw ‘er her ‘ard to stern, lads! Let’s give those bloodthirsty dogs a taste of their own!” -Valentine Stormbred, Pirate Hunter

The seas are filled with plunderers, ruthless killers and bloodthirsty dogs. Some sailors run from pirates, others avoid the waters they frequent. A few of the unlucky are brutally murdered. However, a handful of brave souls dedicate their lives to keeping the seas clean of their kind. If they make a little money on the side, all’s the better.

Becoming a Pirate Hunter
The reasons sailors become pirate hunters are varied. Some sail the seas under the order of their government, others are ex pirates or sailors that lost loved ones to the frey. Still more do it out of their desire to help others. The one thing Pirate hunters have in common is their dislike of pirates – and even that can run from simple admonishment to deep-seated hatred.

Class Features:

All of the following are class features of the pirate hunter prestige class.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Pirate Hunters are proficient with all simple weapons, with light martial weapons, and with the rapier and cutlass. Pirate hunters are proficient with light armor.

Pirate Enemy (Ex): At 1st level the Pirate Hunter gains gains a +2 bonus on Bluff, Listen, Sense Motive, Spot, and Survival checks when using these skills against individuals that have committed an act of evil on the high seas. Likewise, he gets a +2 bonus on weapon damage rolls against such creatures. This feature works exactly like the ranger ability favored enemy. These bonuses increase to +4 at 5th level and +6 at 9th level.

Run ‘em down (Ex): At 2nd level the Pirate Hunter learns how to best control a vessel to get the most speed. Any ship the Pirate Hunter captains or pilots receives +15% to its movement and has good maneuverability. At 8th level the bonus to movement increases to +30%.

Seek the Enemy (Ex): At 3rd level the Pirate Hunter’s eyes became tuned to the subtle changes in the horizon and ocean when a large vessel goes through it. He may use his track feat to track any vessel of Colossal size through the water at a DC of 25. The appropriate size modifiers apply. Movement DCs apply to the vessel if the Pirate Hunter is onboard a ship. At 6th level, the vessel size decreases to Gargantuan, to Huge at 8th level, and to Large at 10th level.

To Davy Jones (Su): At 4th level, once per day, a pirate hunter may increase his damage with one normal melee attack against any evil creature. He adds his Charisma bonus (if any) to her attack roll and deals one extra point of damage per Pirate Hunter Level. If the Pirate Hunter accidentally uses this ability against a creature that is not evil, there is no effect, but the ability is still used up for that day. This ability is similar to the Paladin ability smite evil.

Smell the Wind (Sp): At 7th level the Pirate Hunter learns to feel the pull of evil to help him find his enemy. Once per day, a Pirate hunter may find the closest pirate as a spell-like ability. This ability functions like the spell locate creature except it is not blocked by running water, has no range limit, but may only be used to find pirates. Once the direction of the pirate is found, the Pirate Hunter may maintain concentration for up to 30 minutes to keep the location. After this duration ends, the Pirate Hunter must rely on his own skills to track.

Bane of Pirates (Ex): At 10th level any weapons wielded by the Pirate Hunter count as Bane against any individual who has committed an act of evil on the high seas. The weapon enhancement bonus is increased by +2 and it deals +2d6 holy damage.

Though she has scores of treaure (and a few interesting tidbits) Valentine's true treasure are a pair of heirloom swords. The great sword Meleth was weilded by her mother in her many epic battles against evil, and the beautiful rapier windsong was weilded by her father, a great bard and famous former capitan of teh Vanya Vailie.
