I've been a reader of Something Positive (http://somethingpositive.net)for a while now. I've always liked it, followed the characters, and enjoyed the dark humor/snark that the characters have in their dialogue.

Sadly, it has jumped the shark with it's most recent few strips.

Look, I accept that it's essentially a soap opera for gen xers. I can deal with all the wacky stuff that has gone on within that context, in part because although it's odd it didn't cross the line from "almost certianly would never happen in the real world" into "can't happen in the real world". Superpowered murderous catgirls in a world that had been fully mundane is too much and at this point and I don't think there's any going back.

Thoughts?

Eh... I guess I have to say I'm not convinced. There's always been some parts of S*P that doesn't gel with reality, such as Choo-Choo Bear. I just see the catgirl rampage as a belated halloween side arc that probably won't go on too long, and find reality overrated in comics anyway.

While I agree that the catgirls thing isn't very entertaining, making it the worst S*P I've read in a while, I can't say that it's doom for the strip as a whole. Everyone has off-arcs.

Okay, did you miss Twitchy (http://www.somethingpositive.net/sp04202006.shtml)-Hug (http://www.somethingpositive.net/sp05202006.shtml)? The color-changing killer kitty? Who kept heads in jars (http://www.somethingpositive.net/sp05222006.shtml), until Choo-Choo got rid of him (http://www.somethingpositive.net/sp05242006.shtml)? Haven't you noticed his ghost took possession of Kharisma (http://somethingpositive.net/sp08032006.shtml)?

I'd say it had jumped the shark already, quite a while ago

I think, essentially, with that stuff I was able to write it off as imaginative extrapolations of what was actually happening or in some cases, so outlandish (like Choo-choo) that it's easier to ignore somehow. Essentially, I could see those as throw-away jokes with no 'real' value in terms of the rest of the strip. The cat girls thing is much more front and center as it were and can't really be swept away as well, at least to me.

In light of this, Kurald Galain may be right that it jumped the shark a while ago and I didn't notice. Perhaps I should call this 'being eaten by the shark"?

When?

No, I'm not particularly excited about the current arc or, in fact, about several of the recent story arcs. But the writing itself will keep me coming back.

I wouldnt say it jumped just yet, give it time to resolve this arc, on the bright side theres one less annoying backgroung character now.

I haven't been really happy with the story since Davan moved to Texas and the team split up. At least now it feels like he's doing something, even if that something is being chased by murderous catgirls.

While I'm not fond of the catgirl arc, that doesn't mean the comic has jumped the shark. Bad arcs happen to even the best of comics, but that doesn't mean they stop being good because of it.
I consider "Penny&Aggie" to be one of the best webcomics in existence. I hated its "Dinner for Six" arc, and still get angry thinking about it...but it's still an awesome comic, and still getting better.
The catgirl arc will soon be over, then SP will be back to how it was before. So, no, the shark has not been jumped (because, hey, I can see the future, and I can tell you it'll get better).

The new strip is driving me nuts for some reason. I keep trying to see behind that speech bubble somehow to get at the name.

Was about to say this. I liked something positive more for the characters and the story surrounding them more than the jokes, which were only there I think as filler. I've been getting bored with the comic lately until this, and I think this recent development might be the shock this comic needs to get its heart pumping again.
