i was playing good old final fantasy 8 and i went into a battle, as usual, but this time there were no enemys, just a flying saucer abducting a cow floating past, after it had gone the battle ended, no exp or items... what the hell? and i thought i knew most of ff8 but that supprised me.

so i thought to start this thread and see if, A: anybody else had seen this. and B: if you have seen other things like this in other games.

Yer, it was a big thing about the aliens, it's in the ingame magazines and everything. I forget what it actually does though.

I haven't played FF8 so I haven't seen that particular one, but there's a bunch of easter eggs in games that are hard to find.

One I remember was in an old Sierra adventure game called Conquest of the Longbow: The Legend of Robin Hood. You play as Robin solving adventurey puzzles and using inventory items, as you did in those games. One item was a large horn that Robin blew to summon his merry men. Very, very rarely, Robin's horn would blow a bubble.

Another Sierra one: Police Quest 3. In one scene, the protagonist (Sonny Bonds) learns his wife is pregnant. The art was a realistic style (I think with camera captured actors for the characters) the so he usually has a normal surprised face, but in one play through he got cartoon bug eyes. Weird.

Then there's the Fallout series. I've only played the first two, but they're chockers with surprised out in the wilderness. Play those games with a character with a very high or very low luck stat and you'll find some of the best ones. The blaster pistol you salvage from the crashed UFO in the first one is one of the most powerful weapons in the game. And the second has a bunch of crazy hidden Monty Python references.

Something happened in Oblivion had me laughing out loud:

I had just infiltrated the Mythic Dawn cult, and I was fighting my way out after nicking the Mysterium Xarxes, when I noticed every single cultist was carrying a vegetable of some sort. Picking through the corpses, I found leeks, cabbages, carrots... only vegetables though, no other random objects. Except for this high priestess type person, who was carrying a fork. It probably had some symbolic meaning. Anyway, I concluded that I was infiltrating the wrong cult. This wasn't a cult of Mehrunes Dagon at all; it was a cult of vegetable worshippers.

Also, in Oblivion (I forget where exactly), under a bridge is a dead troll. If you search his body you find a suicide note where the troll talks about him being the 'wurst troll evr'.

It is things like that which make Gears of War so brilliant.

There's also the khajit in Oblivion whose dialog explains why some things were left out of the game, like nudity. He's usually hanging around the gate to Anvil, and is freaking hysterical.

M'aiq (http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:M%27aiq_the_Liar) wishes people would remember his name. M'aiq (http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:M%27aiq_the_Liar) is very sad that many people do not know about him.

The UFO is not just an easter egg...

It's part of a sidequest to get a card you can't get any other way.
