Hi, I am about to create a CD with a load of songs about love and a little bit on lost love. The songs are kinda ballady (is that even a word?). I am currently deciding what to put on it and wondered if anyone has any suggestions...

This is what i have so far:

November Rain - Guns N Roses
Don't Cry - Guns N Roses
Armageddon - Aerosmith
Never Say Goodbye - Bon Jovi
Bed of Roses - Bon Jovi
One - U2
Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own - U2
Heaven - Bryan Adams
I'll Always Be Right There - Bryan Adams
Love - John Lennon
Goodbye My Lover - James Blunt
This Guy's In Love With You - Noel Gallagher (covering Burt Bacharach)

Anything look out of place or missing? Thanks for any input

Well, I don't know how much you want to emphasize the "lost love" aspect(I'm better at that area:smalltongue:), but that's what sprung spontaneously into my mind: Atrocity - Love is dead (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_lv8kYipQjM).

Hmmm...maybe. although you do raise a fair point. I don't seem to have much in the way of love lost songs in my original list do I? Perhaps I should scrap them songs off. What do you think?

Your Song by Elton John

Cryin' by Aerosmith

Layla by Eric Clapton

Lady In Red by Eric Clapton

Question.

I don't think there's a song called "Armageddon" by Aerosmith. Are you thinking of "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing," their song that was used in the movie Armageddon?

Wow, thanks people.

I now have loads to choose from.

P.S. Looks like I made a mistake. It should have been I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing by Aerosmith, not Armageddon.

Lets see... I'm surprised nobody has suggested (*note these maybe a little... heavier, and sadder than you want :smallconfused:):

With or Without you - U2
Nothing Else Matters - Metallica
Tuesday's Gone - Metallica
Semi-Charmed Life - Third Eye Blind (Alt. Rock. I'm surpirsed that I listen to it, but great song nonetheless
The Unforgiven (I,II,II) - Metallica

Hope I helped, and more to come later I suppose...

Also, "Iris", by the Goo Goo Dolls.

If you want songs in other languages, "Infinito" by Enrique Bunbury is all about it. "Aunque no sea conmigo" by Cafe Tacuba fits there, too.

"Creep" by Radiohead and "My Immortal" by Evanescence get extra heartbreaking effect if you get the acoustic versions.

I used to have a terribly long list of songs, but I can't remember them now...

Roadkill Morning by Children of Bodom... :smalltongue: Just kidding.

29 Palms by Robert Plant from the Fate of Nations album always is a nice love song to me. Well, a bit more Lust than love at some places. But still.

"A fool in love - a crazy situation
Her velvet glove knocks me down and down and down
Her kiss of fire - a loaded invitation
Inside her smile she takes me down and down and down"

I liked this topic enough (well, the lost love part of it anyway) that I made my own playlist for a CD. It's 21 songs at 1 hour 46 minutes though, so it'd have to be trimmed back if it were to go on a CD. I could cut down 6 songs if I limited one song per band though.

Here it is. I haven't thought much about order. It takes roughly 2 hours to trawl through my music collection so I'm not going to worry about order right now.

Blind Guardian - The Maiden and the Minstrel Knight
Carbon Leaf - Desperation Song
Flogging Molly - Laura
Great Big Sea - How Did We Get from Saying I Love You
Great Big Sea - Haven't Seen you in a Long Time
Great Big Sea - Boston and St. John's
Guns N' Roses - November Rain
Derek and the Dominoes - Layla (this will probably be the first song. I wonder if there's a version that isn't 7 min long.)
Jonathan Coulton - When You Go (I was expecting more of his stuff to be appropriate, but this was the only serious one I found)
Moxy Fruvous - Fly
Moxy Fruvous - Love Set Fire
Nightwish - Over the Hills and Far Away (probably gonna get cut as it's not entirely appropriate)
The Dresden Dolls - Christopher Lydon (one of two songs that always makes me cry)
Demons & Wizards - Down Where I am (the other song that always makes me cry. Not sure it's appropriate though)
The Offspring - Gone Away
Two Siberians - Sad Heart (the only instrumental here)
Dream Theater - Speak to Me
VNV Nation - Beloved
Blind Guardian - Harvest of Sorrow
Great Big Sea - Dream to Live (one of my favorites, this should be the penultimate song)
Foo Fighters - Everlong (I want to end on a positive note. Song sounds like it could be lossy though)
Blind Guardian - Fly (an even more positive note. Not at all appropriate, but I like the sound of it. Also like having two Flys on one album)

Holy crap, another Moxy Fruvous fan!

Also, Bruce Springsteen's got a lot of good stuff:
The River
Downbound Train
I'm Goin' Down
Etc. (there's so many I don't really feel like listing them all, these are just some of the most obvious)

Dire Straits:
So Far Away
Tunnel of Love

Eric Clapton:
Wonderful Tonight
Layla

Van Morrison:
Moondance
Have I Told You Lately
Brown Eyed Girl

These are just a few I found off of the top of my Realplayer list. Given some time, I could definitely find a lot more.

I'd like to second Wonderful Tonight by Clapton. It's an awesome song. Also, Billy Joel has a large collection of good ones to choose from:

She's Got A Way (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otLlHv2JHTc&feature=related)

I am shocked, ladies and gentleman, shocked, that the following two songs have not been mentioned!

Are You There - Anathema (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cf-as9rDie0)

Collapse The Light Into Earth - Porcupine Tree (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPk4CK2Hc3A)

And, coz I love these songs, I shall include the lyrics!

Are You There

Are you there?
Is it wonderful to know
All the ghosts...
All the ghosts...
Freak my selfish out
My mind is happy
Need to learn to let it go
I know you'd do no harm to me

But since you've been gone I've been lost inside
Tried and failed as we walked by the riverside
And I wish you could see the love in her eyes
The best friend that eluded you lost in time
Burned alive in the heat of a grieving mind

But what can I say now?
It couldn't be more wrong
Cos there's no one there
Unmistakably lost and without a care
Did we lose all the love that we could have shared
And its wearing me down
And its turning me round
And I can't find a way
Now to find it out
Where are you when I need you...

Are you there?

Collapse The Light Into Earth

I won't shiver in the cold
I won't let the shadows take their toll
I won't cover my head in the dark
And I won't forget you when we part

Collapse the Light Into Earth

I won't heal given time
I won't try to change your mind
I won't feel better in the cold light of day
But I wouldn't stop you if you wanted to stay

Collapse the Light Into Earth

Those are my two 'rocky' songs that fit this. I have others in other genres, though.
