Is it just me, or have the last few sets had a much higher "crap quotient" then the few before that?

My FLGS had split some boxes of Demonweb, so I went for a rummage through the minis.

Some were OK, but the majority were really quite poor, even worse than the quality of some of the really early sets. My pet peeve is some of the characters look really out of proportion and cartoonish - am I being paranoid to assume this is to appeal to the WoW fans, who are used to bizarrely proportioned characters?

The worst ones that jumped out at me were these (they look like something the Thundercats or Herculoids should be fighting):

I've been pretty unhappy with them since Dungeons of Dread - I vowed never to buy packs again, just to pick up loose minis.

Am I just being picky?

No, the one on the right does look bad, and some others have too *cough-hellwasp-cough*

(un)luckily, they are discontinuing skirmish minis, and switching to some other thing. I think that humanoids are what they do worst at, but overall, the figures look pretty good.

I don't think I have ever seen a prepainted D&D miniature that I actually wanted. The unpainted metal ones they put out when D20/3e first came out were pretty cool, and it might have been those that spoilt me...

The pic above probably doesn't give a good indication of how bad the bugbear is - it has a pretty optimal paint job. The one in the store looked like the kind of face you'd expect to find on a kids stickfigure drawing of mommy and daddy outside the house with curly some coming out of the chimney...

Well, I mean, they've never been particularly awesome, but there are at least a handful of good ones in each set (I guess - I haven't bought any in a year or so). Of course, reading THIS REVIEW (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=1113814) from the WotC forums, I can see how this set seems to have a higher percentage of crap pieces. I still love my Orc Wolf Shaman (http://www.vesivus.com/eBay/dndminis/AN_Orc_Wolf_Shaman.jpg), Aspect of Tiamat (http://paizo.com/image/product/catalog/TSR/TSR95052-24_500.jpeg), and others, though, so it's okay...

As far as the terrible Bugbear, I don't think I've ever seen one that's very good. I mean, the one I have is this one, and it's not particularly great, either. I do prefer it to the new one, though.

The look on his face is a little ridiculous.

All I can think of is:

Anyone else see the resemblance?

Being a WoW player, I really have no idea what you are talking about with "bizarrely proportioned".

And yes, you are being picky.

Maybe he means the Mr. Universe male Night Elves?

I agree that Dungeons of Dread and Demonweb had some horrible models and paint jobs, but none of them came close to being as bad as the Guard of Mithral Hall. I think that Against the Giants was a pretty good pack, though not as good as some, like Blood War and War Drums.
