Jimo clutched the bandage fabric absorbing the blood from the stitched-up wound in his side and panted heavily.

“You see?” Scolded Sira, the short-but-fierce-tempered doctor who had been tending his wounds. “You’re in no condition to go out. You’re a mess, and after that last battle with the scorpion army you’re lucky to be alive at all.”

Jimo growled. “But Siri-”
“Sira.”
“Sira, I’m only going to the tavern, and there’s nothing you can do about it anyways.”
Sira crossed her arms in a very maternal fashion and hmmphed.

A gigantic, two-storied, oriental building stands before you, overlooking the bay and with a huge front lawn. On a sign, a badly drawn picture depicts a ninja, morbidly obese, flailing his or her arms in a comic and flamboyant manner. The words read, “The Obese Ninja.” Sounds of merrymaking and drunken fun can be heard through the screen walls. On either side of the door, two soldiers stand; One clad in forest green, and one in desert yellow. They eye your weapons suspiciously.

A sight to behold, The Obese Ninja is a spot of cheer in a war-stricken region. For longer than anyone can remember, two neighboring countries, Alusa and Mankan, have been engaged in an age-old battle. Neither country can remember exactly why they still fight, most of the citizens and soldiers do not still want to fight, and both countries are exhausted economically, but both ruling families are too proud -- and aristocratic -- to end the war. The armies of Alusa fly a green dragon banner, while the armies of Mankan ride to war under a orange and yellow scorpion.

A tiny neutral country called Kunika lies just off the southern cost of Alusa and Mankan. Through protection by its ruling council of high-level wizards and some very dexterous diplomacy, Kunika has managed to stay untouched and out of the war, despite being only a 5 minute boat ride from either country.

This 5 minute boat ride, however, makes it quite convenient for a twice-daily ferry to be maintained. And often, soldiers on their off time and civilians looking for a vacation will board the ferry and head to Kunika -- and where else to go than The Obese Ninja?

Checks

Know (Local/Culture), and also Gather info*

DC 10 - The Obese Ninja is a Great Place!

DC 15 - The basics: It’s a place of peace, and other vague items of information like that

DC 20 - Soldiers of both countries can go there to coexist peacefully. It is the pride of Kunika, and also a great vacation spot.

DC30 - The owner’s name is Suni Kao, a wise and benevolent man who used to be a soldier. He knows a lot about a lot, and can probably help the PC’s with whatever plot problems they have.

Know(Geography/History) - A simple DC 15 check will reveal detailed information about the war between Alusa and Mankan, and about Kunika, but not about The Obese Ninja itself.

*This depends where the PC’s are gathering information - citizens from both countries will say great things about it, but anyone higher up, richer, or more aristocratic will have different things to say. They see it as a pit of scum, prostitution, and poverty.

Signature Item - Alphabet Soup
A favorite of the children, this stew comes served in a small ceramic bowl. It is made of chicken broth with noodle letters, along with spices and the chef's secret ingredient. It is enchanted so that letters float to the top to form words in undercommon - often comical ones such as "boobies" and "poopoo". Even a few adults can be seen chuckling over a bowl of this magical stuff.

PICTURE HERE
Signature Item - Samurai Soda
This adult beverage glitters with little sparkles of every color. Along with being extremely tasty, it fills the drinker with a feeling of satisfaction and a desire for nonviolence.

NPC's

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v157/colinmarc/gardener.png
-The Gardener - Pixie Expert5/Bard3
This tiny female pixie tends to the gardens, as well as providing enjoyable music to the patrons on a toothpick-sized flute.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v157/colinmarc/chef.png
-The Chef - Gnome Expert7/Sorceror3
TON would not be complete without amazing food. Its food is one of its main attractions, thanks to the chef(who also brews drinks). The Chef is a stout, grey-haired gnome who yells extremely loud. He uses his training and talent in magic to enchant the food.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v157/colinmarc/masseuse.png
-The Head Masseuse - Human Expert7
This shapely female draws the gaze of every post-childhood male in the room, especially because of her next-to-nothing leather garb and flowing red hair; and her massages are even more attractive, applied with vigor that leaves the subject more relaxed than a really relaxed person.

PICTURE HERE
Suni Kao - Human Aristocrat5/Fighter10/Wizard5/
An aged, balding, mysterious man, Suni Kao ownes and manages TON. He is said to have experienced war in his past, but is, in every way, against it. He does not tolerate fighting in his tavern, and deals with troublemakers himself. Somehow, he seems to be everywhere, watching every part of TON at once. Despite being somewhat cold and strict, he is very likeable and respected.

Any employee or even some of the patrons of TON can direct the PC's to Kao, and he always seems to be where he is needed. Suni is very old and very wise, and can help the PC's with almost anything they might need.

Plot Hooks

-While the PC's are enjoying their food or a massage, a fight breaks out between a couple dragon soldiers and a couple scorpiont soldiers.
-The Gardener seeks help from the PC's. A group of ettercaps and monstrous spiders have made the garden their home!
-A peace conference is being held in the activity room of the tavern. Kao wants the PC's to serve as peacekeeping muscle.
-The chef requires more ingredients for his food that can only be found in the dense Kunikan forest. He asks the PC's to retrieve said ingredients.
-A dragon turtle or perhaps an elasmosaurus has been attacking the ferry, and it's severly damaging business. Kao asks the PC's to investigate.

The Tavern

As the PC’s approach, the guards (one scorpion and one dragon soldier , human warriors level appropriate to the campaign, armed with saps) will demand that their weapons be confiscated and will bring them to the weapons box in the basement

Entry Hall

The entry door is at the south end of the building.

The Tavern’s main hall is extremely large. A long rectangle bar stands in the center, vaguely separating a loud bar to the right, with a dance floor and long bar with stools. and a quiet restaurant to the left, with tables and comfortable chairs. Doors line the wall to the north, and a hallway leads to the east and west. There is a swinging door in the northeast corner that waitresses and waiters periodically carry large platters of food out of. The customers are predominantly in either a yellow or green uniform.

A short, pretty woman in a silk dress stands before you. “Welcome to the Obese Ninja!”

The receptionist can and will answer any questions the PC’s have about the tavern (from this point forward called TON). The doors on the north wall lead to small booths and a function room. At the end of the east hallway are the stairs up and down, and a door from the east hallway leads to the garden. The west hallway leads to the spas. The swinging door leads to the kitchen.

Suni Kao frequents the Entry Hall, keeping an eye on things.

The Garden

The door opens to a lush garden. Hedges separate small cubicles, where soldiers might take their sweethearts. The garden is filled with stone statues, fountains, and other beautiful art, and the soft tinkling of a sweet melody fills the air.

The garden is where patrons can go to relax, spend some quiet time, or spend some quiet time with their loved ones. The pixie gardener and an elite group of Pixie level 2 Experts/level 1 Bards tend to the gardens and play soft music.

The Spa

TON is a full-fledged resort, and thus it has the obligatory spa.

Through a stone arch comes a waft of warm air. The walls, ceiling, and floor of the giant spa area are fully marble. A reception desk stands to the right. The room is full of steaming baths sunk into the floor and massage tables where customers are tended to by scantily clad masseuses.

The PC’s can buy a massage for 10gp or a full spa treatment for 100gp. The full spa treatment increases charisma by 2 for that day.

The Kitchen

The staff of this room is predominantly gnomish, so the stoves and other cooking equipment are rather low. It is obvious who is the head chef, as he barks orders, cooks, and barks more orders so fast he is a blur.

Second Floor: Bedrooms

The upstairs is arranged in a giant square, with regular rooms on the outside and luxurious suites lining the center. A door to the immediate right has a hanging sign on it that says “Staff Only.”

The regular rooms are about 10ft by 20ft and cost 40g a day. They have small bathrooms to the side. There are medium rooms on the outside to the north, with a slightly larger room, two twin beds, and a comfy bathroom. The suites are large and luxurious, about 40ft by 60ft, with a bedroom and silk bed, living room with plush couches, and a ridiculously well-furnished bathroom with a jacuzzi. A Suite costs 700g a night to rent.

Second Floor: Office

A Short hallway leads to a messy room. There is a desk in one corner and an unkempt bed in the other. The desk is covered in papers. There are pictures on the wall of various stout, oriental-looking warriors. A chest of drawers and a large chest accompany the bed by a large window overlooking the bay.

The door to the office has a very powerful magical lock (requires two checks simultaneously to pick: Pick Lock DC 45 and Spellcraft DC 40) that can only be opened with a key that Suni Kao carries.

The chest is locked by the same lock that Kao has on the door. It contains a +1 Lawful Katana of Magebane and a +2 Good Wakizashi. They are Suni’s old swords, and though he shuns his past, he cannot bear to get rid of them. Also in the chest is a large suit of +1 Adamantium armor. The chest of drawers contains lots of clothes, but a closer search (DC 20) discovers a Ring of Protect +1.

Basement: Cellar

The dank cellar to TON is just as big as the tavern itself. To the west are large boilers that are attended by unrecognizable hulking shapes. Lots and lots of shelves are filled with food and wine, among other things. A large lockbox resides in the south corner.

The hulking shapes are stone golems created to feed the boiler fire. The lockbox contains all the patrons’ weapons.

Its good. I like the idea of the magical food. Just a question, why is there a quote? Is it because that is what the DM would say or something?

Is the alpha (transparency) on the pictures working? I know it is in firefox, but in IE it shows up as grey.
