I'm going to go with Construct. An epic construct should definitely be interesting. I reserve the right to change my vote to Aberration (my close second) if it looks like that's more likely to win.

Say Afro, what about removing already-selected types for a certain amount of rotation - like, say, 4 contests - so we don't get unnecessary repeats?

I'll vote for Construct too, I was considering voting for Elemental just to tie things up. But in all seriousness I don't like elementals and Constructs are more interesting.

I want a really weird one though, it has to be made out of something really weird. Like Uranium, or the Dreams of Children.

A Neutral Good Construct made from the Sand that gives Horrific Nightmares to Evil Aligned PC's.

Mr. Sandman, bring me a dream (bung, bung, bung, bung)

Once we get around to alignment I know what I'm voting for. At least it wouldn't be one of the corners. Everyone is always a corner alignment, lawful good, Chaotic Evil. No one is ever Neutral Good or Chaotic Neutral or the like.

I'm not gonna bother voting since construct has already won. I get a feeling this won't be a gigantic sand monster somehow related to glass of any kind. But if I were Afro, I'd make an hourglass themed monster and post it just to focus all these inappropriate comments all over the forum into one specific thread. Wink, wink.

As for voting options, removing at least winnig type from the next one could be logical.

Juhn
2008-12-03, 01:01 PM
I don't think Construct has necessarily "already won". There's still half the voting term left. My vote goes toward an epic Magical Beast, parftially because Magical Beasts are overdue.

And there's no reason to strike the most recent winning option - anyone who's been following this isn't likely to vote for it anyway, but I'm still confident that afro's got more than one interesting villain for each type.

Man, in the real world Euclidian Geometry is boring. I want to see the phrase, "creatures striking [CONSTRUCT] in melee recieve 10d6 damage (no save) from temporal paradox."

My vote also goes to Unique: Geometric. If you absolutely must stay within the bounds of Euclidean geometry, I'm thinking graph theory would be a good inspiration, all floating nodes and edges. Think about it--what's more villainous than the incarnation of graph theory? Nothing, that's what!

Of course, complex numbers still count as Euclidean geometry, since they can be represented on a plane. Just a suggestion....

Can I vote for Unique [Fractal]? Because a construct made of an infinite amount of smaller identical constructs would be so awesome.

But that sounds suspiciously like a swarm. Each member of which is also a swarm. Whose every member is... Well, yeah. A collosal+ swarm of huge critters, each of which is a swarm of medium critters who are individually swarms of dimunitive creatures (and maybe something further?) sounds rather promising (if rather unfeasible).

Not even going to hit tesseract territory.

You seem to misunderstand. I meant that as only three dimensions can be perceived, it would for all practical purposes be a cube. But the maker had somehow managed (intentionally) to make at least two additional dimensions have the same length as the main three.

And this would have been posted sooner, but the internet ate it the first time...

Listen to what TV Tropes has to say about non-Euclidian geometry and the real world -

Possible Truth in Television, as there's some indication that the visible universe is the 3-dimensional surface of a 4-dimensional trumpet/funnel.

Some theories suggest the universe is a hyper-Dodecahedron, the normal variant being a platonic solid with 12 sides. Travel some billion lightyears in one direction you'd eventually arrive at your original location, but turned a few degrees. Trippy.

More aptly, it is to be observed that Euclidean geometry, mathematically speaking, is a special case— it only applies to forms on a perfectly flat, two-dimensional plane; something that is, strictly speaking, an abstract concept (in light of the fact that time and space are demonstrably curved by gravity.) Consider that you cannot, in euclidean geometry, draw a triangle with three right angles, but it is perfectly possible on the surface of a sphere. So what does that say for we who live in a "spherical" universe?

Why did I post this? Because it's vaguely on-topic and I can.

Out of curiosity, why is Soulknife banned? It's not because you don't like psionics; you've got psion and psy warrior on there.

I think it's because the construct doesn't have a soul. It's pretty hard to make a knife out of a soul you don't have.

I suppose it could use someone elses soul. But then there is the problem of how to extract it...

Actually, that could make a pretty good motivation for villainous intent. And by pretty good, I mean really awesome, though it would take some homebrewing and modding to make it so - but we're in the right place for that...

I would think you would just whip up some kind of "Soul Thief" special affect and apply it to the construct. Something like

This character must kill a sentient creature and harvest it's soul at least once every (1d3+1/3 Your Soulknife class level) day period (each time you harvest a soul you reroll to determine how long the soul lasts) or lose all of it's class skills until such time as a soul is harvested.

Maybe they would gain some other bonuses from the effect. I dunno. Possibly they would get stronger depending on how powerful the soul they drain is. Draining a psion would be especially effective. Draining a real Soulknife would be a supercharge.

Otherwise they would just be a basic soulknife. Maybe it could be a special feat?

That would fit with a construct that didn't have to sleep. It would just periodically murder people in order to keep itself at full power. You would find it carting along a supply of slaves to extract souls from to keep itself at full power when in the wilderness. In a city it would just graze it's way through the slums, picking off drifters and cutthroats. The hook would be the strange drained corpses showing up every night.

Magnor Criol
2008-12-05, 02:48 AM
I didn't say it'd be a difficult homebrew. :smalltongue: I'd base how long the soul powers the knife on the drained soul's HD, personally. Kill an archwizard, he'll give you more power than killing a commoner.

Oh, don't give me this crap, Afro. We get along just fine most of the time, but I'm sick of hearing it about influencing votes.

In any democracy, one's personal power is proportionate to how many people you can convince to see things your way. This is not only a legitimate way to do things democratically, it's the legitimate way to do things democratically. If I want something everyone votes on, I convince people to vote my way.

Furthermore, you have influenced votes merely by saying you have an idea - you turned this vote from a Zoomorphic victory into a Geometric victory by saying as much, causing Mew to change his vote and others to vote for the Geometric option!

So quit giving me crap about lobbying. If you can influence votes, so can I.

Juhn

...Generally he has a basic idea for each of the major contenders, especially if they're "Unique" options that he put into the table. If people vote for them, he's gotta have something there.

The extent of vote influence in these things generally is limited to making your choice, explaining your rationale, and possibly explaining your rationale for not choosing other options. Though so long as you don't come out and say "Vote for this one!" they tend to be pretty lenient.

Afro tends to be rather paranoid about voter influence on occasion, but he's never done anything. Even after the name vote business in VUACS he went with the winner, regardless of his suspicions. He does seem to have a disproportionate dislike for the winning name, though.

CR 21. What's an army of robots going to do to you at that high of a level. Even with super crazy lazers.

Seconded. It would also be good to see something that could actually be used in high level campaigns as well as Epic ones. 21.

BTW, Afroakuma and fellow VUA- homebrewers, if you should ever get frustrated by our voting patterns, feel free to take a break and do some of the homebrewing you want. After all, the general public don't always know what they could actually benefit from most; as Gerald Ford said, "If I asked my customers what they wanted, they would have asked for a faster horse". ;-)

The second one there is a variation on my first guess, by the way. And mine wasn't correct from what I know.

Not to mention you get a sweet sweet parody contest out of it.

He hires lawns to do his dirty work? Is he a god of gardening?

He sounds like a really down-to-earth kinda guy. Y'know, a real sodding fellow. The kind of guy that just...grows on you. You'd better respect his turf, though, or else he might go green with envy. Then he'll start to sow the seeds of discontent, and you may well find a blade in your back before long...But, you know, as long as you don't go digging around where you shouldn't, he's probably a pretty decent fellow.

Eh, not my best work.
