Background & History

As the hills increase in size and number, so too does the apparent traffic. You cross over the next ridge of hills to see a small town flooding with people and noise.
The town is filled with an innumeral variety of creatures, magical and mundane. The fierest appearing are in cages, but many are roaming relativly free. There are long prossions showcaseing some of the larger collections, platforms for different animal contest(ranging from smartest to 'most likely to bite someones head off by noon tommorow'), stalls full of a variety of potions and scrolls involving training, capturing, befriending, and improving creatures of all types, and a number of ragged but intellegent looking people promoting and pronouncing different and often conflicting ideas and research.

Delitath is a small town of aprox. 19 hundred, founded 150 years ago.
For most of the year it is a farming community that recieves trade from a congregation of druids they co-operate with (and are subjugate to), and a guild of researchers which frequently host exibitions and field research expiditions. The druids try to keep the reaserchers guild from harmfull activites to nature and limit the towns interference in (and growth into)nature, and the guild brings in new opportunities for growth and learning in the area.

The Feast of the Griffin King is held in the first month of summer, and can last from two weeks to two months depending on the turn-out. The festival, despite what lenth it takes, is set into several phases. Arrival, Exibition, The Crowning, and Departure.

Arrival- Self-explanitory; This is when the largest amount of festival patrons arrive. This last until the number of arrivals begins to decline. Stalls are erected, etc. There is little differecne between the town as usual and now, aside things are slightly busier. At the DM's descretion, prices for some items may be higher
Exibition- The festival is in swing and the town is quite crowded. It's status is now that of a large town and takes the properties of such(ie; increased urban encounters, higher gp limit) There is a 15% chance they will run into an event: 10%-Show Contest, 5%-Procession. For both, roll on a random encounter table one level below the partys level. If the roll is not a creature(ie: non-humanoid, capable of being trained, int 4 or below; exceptions granted at descretion)
Show Contest: This is a contest between creatures and thier Trainer(/friend/imprisoner/acomplace/thrall). This can be either for best creature of a specific name(best snake/weasel/manticore) or some feature related to that specific creature, or an open contest for a general trait. Roll D%. 50 or below thier early to see the contest and can join if they have a creature of their own(paladins mount/familiar/animal companion/trained fighting chicken). To Win, they make an opposed combined Handle Animal check(by the trainer) and an abilty check(by creature) revolving the task(Wis check for cleverest anmal, Dex for fastest, Cha for best looking). If they succede by 5 or more than any others, they win; any lower and they tie with that person.(Joe, 1st, 51; Bob, 2nd, 45; Jill, 2nd, 41)
Crowning- This is the main event of the Festival.
Departure- Yup
