Prinnies

Sentient creatures who have led a worthless life, or died an utterly pointless, meaningless, and stupid death are sent to the Plane of Failure, also known as Prinny Land, upon their deaths. There they have their souls sewn into the body of a prinny. They are then told to take a departure number and await their hearing before the Prinny Council. Once judged these pathetic souls are sentenced to centuries of hard labor in the hands of uncaring masters in order to repay their debt to society. These creatures are known as Prinnies.

Prinny Racial Traits:

Prinnies have no bonuses or negative for their ability scores.
Small sized: A prinny receives a +1 bonus to Armor Class, +1 bonus on attack rolls, +4 bonus on Hide checks, -4 penalty on grapple checks, lifting and carrying limits ¾ those of Medium characters.
A prinny’s base land speed is 30 feet.
A prinny treats all Craft and Profession skills as class skills.
Prinnies receive a +2 modifier to any Craft or Profession skills they have ranks in.
Due to their submissive nature, and the constant abuse they receive prinnies receive a +2 to all Fort Saves, but a -2 to all Will Saves.

Special Rules:

Prinny Debt
Prinnies are being punished for a reason. Either their lives were such utter worthless failures that they deserved this fate, or their deaths were. Because of this the Prinny Council requires they payoff their debt to society. This dept is known as the Prinny Debt, or the Failure Debt.

The Prinny Council allows for two methods of payment. Years of hard labor, or money.

Hard Labor:
Based on the severity of the prinny's offenses in his former life, the Prinny Council will set a number of years the Prinny must serve as a soldier, servant, slave, or anything else it's future owners desire. This amount of time can vary from a few decades to centuries, or even longer. Only the time spent in the service of a "boss" accumulates for paying back this sentence.

The prinny is then either given a waiting number and put to work in Prinny Land until a potential creatures summons it using the Summon Prinny Ritual, or if prinnies are starting to pile up in Prinny Land a member of the Prinny Council might give the prinny a swift quick in the posterior, launching it straight back to the plane and spot it died (where it lands in a very painful explosion).

Regardless of whether the prinny was summoned, or the prinny was roaming wild before it got caught (see Wild Prinnies below) it still functions the same way towards it's 'boss":

It is a slave. There is no question in anyone's mind about it.
When in the employment/service of an individual it and it's boss are in a bound contract which is closely monitored by the Prinny Council's staff in Prinny Land.
Although the "boss" is not required to show any form of kindness or concern for the prinny, it is required to pay it at least some form of salary (see Prinny Salary below).
Aside from the prinny's salar, the only thing the boss is not allowed to do is take away the prinny's bag permanently.
If the prinny was summoned it is immediately in the service of the one who performed the Summon Prinny Ritual, and the boss is instantly bound to their contract.

If the prinny ever flees it's boss while she is still alive the prinny's sentence automatically restarts.

Money:
The Prinny Council also decides on a monetary value to the prinny's debt. Depending on the council's decision this amount can vary greatly, but the legal minimum is 100,000gp regardless of the prinny's transgressions (and by transgression we mean the individual's past life).

This debt can only be paid in the form of copper, silver, gold, or platinum coins payed to the prinny by it's current boss. To send the money to the Prinny Council a prinny uses it's Prinny Bag (see below).

This monetary debt does not restart if the prinny flees from a boss, but almost always it is quicker to use the Hard Labor than pay the debt off by quite a bit (see Prinny Salary below).

Prinny Hatred
All creatures have a natural embedded hatred for prinnies. No one is certain why, but many scholars suggest it is the higher powers assuring the prinnies suffer during their punishment.

Any creature or NPC who encounters or is even nearby a prinny must make a DC15 Will Save, or have it's attitude towards the prinny shift to unfriendly for the remainder of the day. Even good aligned creatures are subject to this, and classes such as paladins and clerics do not take any negative effects for treating prinnies poorly.

The "boss" of the prinny is always considered to be of unfriendly attitude towards it. Instead, it's attitude shifts to Hostile when the Will Save is failed. The prinny's boss must make this Will Save each day.

All creatures and NPCs of celestial origin (including creatures such as aasimars and half-celestials) are immune to this. Indeed, prinnies summoned on Celestia and the other good aligned Outer Planes are a lucky breed.

Wild Prinnies
Prinnies who's boss has either died of natural causes, was killed by anyone aside from the prinny's under it's service, or simply kicked them out on the street are relieved of it's contract with that individual. In these cases the prinny's sentence time or debt are not reset. However, until the prinny gains a new boss the Prinny Council deduct 1gp a day from the prinny's balance (to a minimum of -5,000gp).

However, if the prinny takes advantage of the -5,000gp minimum, and does not continue attempting to obtain a new boss using this as a loophole in the system the Prinny Council usually takes this as a personal affront to them. So much so that asside from sending specially trained Prinny Hunting Parties from Prinny Headquarters as is usually done for a rogue prinny, members of the Prinny Council occasionaly schedule time in their extremely busy schedule to send a personal aspect or even avatar to personally lead a hunting party themselves (and eventually beat the living daylights out of the disrespectful prinny on a divine level). This is one of the very few pleasures the members of the Prinny Council are able to enjoy.

Gaining a new boss
A wild prinny, or a prinny who fled it's former master can gain a new boss in two different ways.

The prinny can approach another potential employer and offer it's services. In this case the potential owner instantly receives a mental prerecorded dialogue from automatic severs on Prinny Land explaining the terms of the contract he is being offered, and explaining the minimum salary that it is required to pay the pathetic thing before him (see Prinny Salary below).

Someone simply takes him. Anyone able to overpower the prinny is his boss. If a sentient creature is able to defeat the prinny in combat, and afterward able to keep the thing from running away, she becomes the creature' s new boss. By defeating a prinny for this purpose the individual automatically accepts the contract, and is required to provide the prinny with it's Prinny Salary (see Prinny Salary below). This method can not be used to capture a prinny in the service of another creature, but it can be used to obtain more prinnies than the Summon Prinny Ritual (A form of the Leadership feat. See below.) would allow one to posses.

Prinny Salary
Only wealth given to a prinny by it's boss may be used to pay off it's Prinny Debt (see above). Although a prinny can use any items (aside from weapons and armor. See below.) other creatures can, no wealth or belongings gained by any other means can be used to pay of the prinny's debt.

A prinny's boss is required to pay the prinny a minimum of 1sp a day per it's ECL, as if an untrained hireling (see Goods & Services in the PHB). For example, a prinny with two level in a PC class (such as fighter, or rogue) would receive a salary of 2sp a day, while a prinny with a single level in an NPC class (such as commoner, or warrior) would receive a salary of 5cp a day.

If the boss falls behind more than three months on the prinny's salary their contract is automatically dissolved, and the prinny is allowed to leave as a Wild Prinny (see above). That is, if it can.

Prinnies in a party are usually servants (aka slaves) to another PC in the group, or will eventually be as their Prinny Hatred will eventually drive them to kick the thing out or dominate it. Not to mention that prinnies require a boss to pay them in order to lessen their debt, and everyday spent without a boss burns some of their hard earned money.

While in a party with a boss, the prinny player has no say when it comes to party loot. Sure he can whine, but it's boss is likelier to give it a backhand than any real cosnideration to it's words. It simply gets whatever it's boss wants to give it.

Plushy Soft
Prinnies are unable to fight a grapple attempt from a creature of at least tiny size or bigger. All grapple attempts against them by creatures big enough to hold them instantly succeed. Once someone has a prinny grappled they may toss it as a Prinny Attack (see below).

However, they may still attempt to strike with an Attack of Opportunity against the grappler. This is true even if the grappler is the prinny's Boss, but attempting to do so usually comes at a big price. However, regardless if the AoO hits the prinny is isntantly grappled, for they still can not fight the attempt.

Prinny Attack
A creature of at least tiny size who has a prinny grappled can choose to toss it as a ranged touch attack with a range increment of 20ft. Once the prinny hits something (an enemy, floor, wall, bull's eye, etc) it instantly explodes, dealing 1d6 fire damage per character level of the prinny in a 5ft radius centered around the square it landed in, and half that amount to itself. If this attack would bring the prinny to 0hp it instantly falls unconscious.

Prinnies do not explode if they are already unconscious, or if they are in Prinny Land.

Armor
Prinnies are unable to wear any form of armor on their "bodies", nor can they wield any type of shield. No form of feat, class, or ability is able to negate this. Why is uncertain, but sages who actually cared enough to give a half-assed attempt to figure it out believe it is due to the greater powers disliking the idea of prinnies protecting themselves and not being hurt, since that is all a major part of the punishment.

However, due to the prinny's nonsensical and magical physical forms, along with their disposition for receiving regular beatings, most prinnies eventually learn how to at least partly shrugoff the pain. Because of this prinnies receive a natural armor bonus equal to their current BaB -1.

Weapons
Prinnies have a seemingly endless supply of knives in their bags known as Prinny Daggers (see Prinny Items below). A prinny may reach into it's bag and pull out a Prinny Dagger as a move action.

The prinny is not likely to know where these knives keep coming from, but it eventually figures out that there seems to be an endless supply of them in there. However, clever prinnies will quickly learn that for some unknown reason non-prinnies seem to have a naturally embedded aversion to these daggers, so no merchant will ever purchase a Prinny Dagger.

Prinnies are only proficient with the knives from their bags, and take double the non-prociency penalties when using any other weapon regardless of what class(s) they take. No form of feat or ability is able to negate these penalities.

Prinnies may not take any Weapon Proficiency feats.

1/day per character level a Prinny may also pull out a Prinny Bomb (see Prinny Items below) from his prinny bag as a move action. The Prinny Bomb emerges from the bag already lit, and will explode in the prinny's face if not thrown that round.

The prinny may attempt a DC 10 reflex save as a standard action to attempt to extinguish the fuse on the prinny bomb to keep it from exploding. If the prinny succeeds it takes 1hp of damage due to is hurting burnt wingtip.

So pathetically sad that it can't die
Prinnies are virtually indestructible, and their souls can not be removed from within their prinny suits.

A prinny is incapable of being killed by any means. Whenever a prinny reaches 0hp it instantly falls unconscious (instead of being staggered like normal creatures), but it's health can never be reduced into the negatives.

In addition, prinnies never age, and their crafted skin suits heal as though it were real.

Being brought back from the dead
It is nearly impossible to restore a prinny to it's former body. Once swen into it's prinny suit not even spells on the level of Miracle or Wish can revive the individual. Nothing short of a written authorization by the Prinny Council or the Prinny God himself would permit it, and that is very unlikely to happen.

Getting Reincarnated
Once a prinny either pays or works off it's Prinny Debt it and any nearby creatures hear a loud "DING!!" from seemingly no where. This informs the prinny that it's debt is now finished, that it's current contract with it's boss is official terminated, and that it should report back to Prinny Land (that is, if he can get there).

Once/If the Prinny returns to Prinny Headquarters in the Plane of Failure he is presented with two option. It can either choose to pass on to it's appropriate afterlife, or be reborn with it's memories retained to "give it another shot". If the prior is chosen Death comes to finally take the poor soul away, if the later is chosen the creature spends the next nine months or so in total darkness followed by feeling really cold right before someone smacks him in the posterior.

The Prinny Rule
Once the individual becomes a prinny it gains an overwhelming urge to use the word dood. as an interjection. In additions, they are completely unable to keep themselves from using the word -dood after every sentence.

A player playing a prinny must adhere to the Prinny Rule while acting in-character as their PC, or take -1xp for every sentence uttered without -dood at it's end.

Favored Class

If the prinny was summoned using the Summon Prinny Ritual it's favored class is whatever class it's new "boss" brought it back ass.
If the prinny was kicked back to it's former plane by the Prinny Council, then it retains the favored class it possessed in it's former life along with it's class levels.

Prinny Options

Prinny feats:

Improved Prinny Bag
Your bag is bigger than that of an average prinny, leading many to believe that you are over compensating for something.
Requirements: Being a prinny.
Benefits: Treat your bag as though it was a bag of holding one type bigger (see DMG p.248).
Special: This feat can be taken multiple times, up to a limit of three times.

Special Prinny Daggers
To everyone's amazement, the Prinny Council decided to throw you a bone.
Requirments: Being a prinny, BaB +3.
Benefits: In your hands the daggers you pull from your bag count as +1 magic weapons. However, they are still worthless in the hands of other creatures.
Special: You can take this feat multiple times up to a maximum of five times. Each time you take this feat the weapon's enchantment increases by +1 to a maximum of +5. You can not use this feat to grant the prinny daggers special abilities such as frost or fire damage.

Prinny Items:

A Prinny's Bag:
The bag of a prinny functions as a Bag of Holding Type I in it's hands. In the hands of any other creature, except for it's master, the bag functions like a normal small-sized backpack with no special abilities.

These bags can never be punctured, nor do they cause any effect when interacting with other inter-dimensional spaces, in fact many prinny owners enjoy stuffing their prinnies into their bags of holding and portable holes. These bags are as mysteriously indestructible as their owners.

Whenever a prinny is given coins by it's master it need only place them in it's bag and close it to pay of it's Prinny Debt (see above). The coins are then magically transported to Prinny Land where they are sorted and counted by the prinnies working there. The prinny's balance will then be updated within twenty-four hours. Any coins or valuables not granted to the prinny by it's boss will not disappear and will not affect the prinny's Prinny Debt.

Prinny Daggers
{table=head]Weapon |Cost | Dam |Crit. | RI | Wt | Type
Prinny Bomb| - | 1d4 | 19-20/×2 | 10 ft. | 1/2 lb. |Piercing or slashing

Prinny Bomb
{table=head]Weapon |Cost | Dam |Crit. | RI | Wt | Type
Prinny Bomb| - | 2d6 | - | 10ft. (5 ft.) | 1 lb. |Fire
[/table]

This round explosive must be lit
before it is thrown. Lighting a bomb is a move
action. The explosive deals 2d6 points of fire
damage in a five-foot radius. Anyone caught within the blast radius
can make a DC 15 Reflex save to take half
damage.

Prinnies as a Template:

If a PC dies and qualifies for a prinny afterlife, the DM may choose to bring the character before the Prinny Council.

Creating a Prinny

"Prinny" is an acquired template that can be added to any sentient creature (referred to hereafter as the base creature).

A prinny loses all the base creature’s statistics and special abilities related to it's former race except as noted here.

Size and Type: The creature’s type changes to magical beast. Size changes to small.
Hit Dice: A prinny loses any racial HD it might have had from it's previous race.
Armor Class: See the Prinny Racial Traits and Special Rules above. It loses any natural armor bonuses it had from it's previous race.
Special Attacks: See the Prinny Racial Traits and Special Rules above. It loses any special attacks from it's previous race.
Abilities Scores: All the prinny's mental stats (Cha, Int, and Wis) remain the same, but it loses any bonuses or penalties it had to physical stats (Con, Dex, and Str) from it's previous race.
Skills: (See the Prinny Racial Traits and Special Rules above)
Environment: Any
Challenge Rating: +/-???.
Alignment: Same as in it's previous life.
Level Adjustment: +0. It loses any LA it might have had from it's previous race.

Special:

Unless thrown back to their former plane by the Prinny Council, or summoned at a higher level by someone using the Summon Prinny Ritual, Prinnies are brought back as a level one character of whatever class the summoner desires.

Summon Prinny Ritual:

There are two versions of the Incantation (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/magic/incantations.htm) used to summon prinnies from Prinny Land. The most common is the version used by demons in the Abyss and devils in Baator for it reduces the xp required in exchange for added suffering on the prinny's part. The second version is a much kinder version used almost exclusively in Celestia and the other good aligned Other Planes. Outsiders from other planes, and the few who know of this incantation on the Material Plane tend to use the prior, since they are also filled with Prinny Hatred (see Special Rules above).

Aside the Abyss, Baator, and Celestia where the use of prinnies is greatest, prinnies are also somewhat common on the other Outer Planes. Even some of the smarter elementals in the Inner Planes use them. Anywhere there are powerful individuals in need of cheap labor, and/or a punching bag you are likely to see prinnies.

In the Outer Planes the incantations to perform the Summon Prinny Ritual are quite common, and can usually be obtained for around 5,000gp (for the Darker Version) or 8,000gp (for the Nice Version) in communities of Large Town size or larger.

Note:
Incarnations are an optional mechanics from the WotC book Unearthed Arcana. You can read about them in the official SRD for free, and on www.d20srd.com here (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/magic/incantations.htm).

Summon Prinny Ritual (Darker Version)
Conjuration (Calling)
Effective Level: 6th
Skill Check: Knowledge (Nature) DC 15 to understand the fate of souls once they die, 4 successes; Knowledge (Religion) DC 20 to understand the fate these pathetic souls were granted, 2 passes.
Failure: The caster who failed the check must make a DC 10 Reflex save as the cauldron explodes, or be soaked by the concoction. If the check is failed, the caster herself becomes a Prinny for the next twenty-four hours.
Components:
M: Three tears from a miserable person.
M: A large sized cauldron filled with water, and brought to a boil.
M: A copper piece tossed into the boiling cauldron to symbolize the prinny's worth.
V: The first caster stating what type of prinny it wishes to conjure.
XP: 10xp per level of the prinny being summoned. The caster who performs the final Knowledge check pays this penalty by himself.
Casting Time: 60 minutes
Range: The cauldron can not be more than 5ft from the caster who performs the final Knowledge check.
Target: The caster who performed the final knowledge check.
Duration: Instantaneous
Saving Throw: None
Spell Resistance: No

This incantation contacts the Plain of Failure, where a temporary link forms between the inside of the boiling cauldron and a prinny departure room back at the headquarters of the Prinny Council in Prinny Land.

Once the ritual commences the staff at the prinny departure station are instantly informed that a room has been activated. During the sixty minutes the ritual is underway the prinny who's departure number is next is contacted and brought to the headquarters. It is then placed (often unwillingly) inside the departure room, and the room is locked.

If the incantation succeeds, the caster who completed the incantation describes what type of prinny she wants (level, class, etc) and then tosses the copper piece into the cauldron. The coin floating down the cauldron and the prinny in Prinny Land then instantly switch locations, transcending the planes in the process.

If this was the caster's first time completing the Summon Prinny Ritual, she immediately gains a modified version of the Leadership feat as a free bonus feat. This feat follows the rules for the Leadership feat, except for the following changes:

The caster does not gain any form of negatives (such as cruelty to followers, or losing followers) or bonuses (such as being fair to followers) to her leadership score. The sole exception to this is if the caster personally owns a stronghold, which in tern grants her the ability to own double the number of follower level prinnies.
The caster does not attract any followers or cohorts, but instead is allowed to continue using the Summon Prinny Ritual to summon prinny followers who are equal in level to the followers she would normally receive, and if she desires to spend enough XP to summon one exceptionally powerful prinny equal in level to the type of cohort she would normally receive.
If one of her prinny flees from her service, she may reuse the incantation to replace it. Her leadership score is not affected by this.
Having summoned prinny slaves does not prevent the boss from taking the normal Leadership feat.

Meanwhile, a prinny back at the prinny departure station opens the now vacant departure room, picks up the coin, and tosses it inside it's prinny bag.

So, what do you guys think?

I did a lot of hoembrewing here, so I am certain I must have messed up quite a few things.

Any help cleaning this up would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not an expert at assessing races so I don't see anywhere that you have messed up. Any chance on seeing a few sample prinnies?

Err... is the only difference between the two rituals the temperature of the water basically? And in any case, how much damage DOES the prinny take from the boiling water?

Well, sure I guess I can give it a shot. I will try to do it later tonight.

Would it be easier to simply take prestated NPCs and apply the template?

And you not an expert? You've been great at helping so often.

Err... is the only difference between the two rituals the temperature of the water basically? ?

Well, I also changed the components and XP cost, and I tried to give a distinction in the fluff/feel of each version. I guess it did not work?

And in any case, how much damage DOES the prinny take from the boiling water?

As much as it's new boss wants.

Oh, and in the Nice Version I took away the part about the not getting negative or positives to her leaderships score. I did that to try to represent that the ones in the Abyss and Baator are expected to be abused, while the ones in Celestia are usually taken care of and treated kindly, hence why the leadership score can improve, or decrease depending on how it it treated (because it is not the cultural norm there).

edit:
I just added to following clause to the Leadership feat alteration to both versions:

Having summoned prinny servants/slaves does not prevent the boss from taking the normal Leadership feat.

I did this because in the game the lead character had both prinnies and regular followers, so I was thinking it would fit?

Change the fluff of getting a kick in the bum -- after working so hard the Prinny deserves the chance it earned.

And give them DR1/Slashing or Piercing

EDIT: Demon Lords of the Netherworld Courts use prinnies as cheap artillery ammunition when they don't have the resources to mount a proper military effort to find flaming rocks for catapults/cannon balls/rockets for their RPG launchers.

Prinnies line up to be fired from these weapons. Incentive and bonus pay optional. Prinnies will willingly desert to the side that doesn't use them in this fashion.

The flavor is very off. They should -not- be a template. They should be a creature.

I meant the minimum before they could jump out of the water assuming the new master doesn't want his property to get damaged...
And I didn't read very carefully the first time.

And yes, I completely agree that the two types of leadership should be mutually compatable and cumulative.

Whoa, I recently had an idea very similar to the Prinny Bag. Except this was given to PCs by the Banker's Guild so that they can deposit their money while in the field. (Mostly a plot excuse so we don't have to track the weight of coins.)

Sorry, I did not understand what you meant there.

And give them DR1/Slashing or Piercing.

Hmm. That is an interesting idea. What is the thought process this idea is based on?

LoL. That is an awesome idea.

And the bonus pay got me thinking.

The flavor is very off.

I guess so. But I did not want to remove the Abyss, Baator, or Celestia, so I tried to fit it into the default D&D cosmology as best I can.

They should -not- be a template. They should be a creature.

It seems I ended up trying to make them both a race and a template, and I guess a summoned creature as well. A bit too much?

Also, I have not played Disgaea since 2004-2006 (can't remember), and I only have my fond memories to go by. So sorry if I messed up anything.

And thanks, since I now realize I forgot to mention it has no LA in it's description as a race.

edited:
LA+0 added to the prinny's racial stats.

I meant the minimum before they could jump out of the water assuming the new master doesn't want his property to get damaged...

I did not think about that. I was imagining a funny scene where if PCs summoned one, or if a PC was summoned it would pop out with the eyes opaque and screaming and pain, but I did not think about how much damage would be needed for the incantation.

And since the prinny can not die, I think only an inexperienced NPC/PC with the things would actually worry about it being damaged. Still, would be funny if the PCs tried frantically to pull it out when they see it pop it's screaming scared head out of the boiling water.

Does anyone know how much damage boiling water does in D&D 3.5?

And I didn't read very carefully the first time.

I see.

And yes, I completely agree that the two types of leadership should be mutually compatable and cumulative.

Thank you. I was worried about the one, since I was afraid of balance issues.

You know what they say, great mines think alike!

But that got me thinking, wouldn't such a magic item cost more than the profit they are likely to make off the PCs?

Either way, I love the idea. And I like the idea of having a banking system of some sort, where PCs store there money. Although, they would need to go to a specific city every time they need some of it. I remember there was an older video game like this, but I can not recall it.

Oh, and I have made a companion thread for this one concerning the Prinny Council, The Prinny God, and Prinny Land. If there are any hoembrewers good with gods and planes on here I could really use some help fleshing it all out.

You know what they say, great mines think alike!

But that got me thinking, wouldn't such a magic item cost more than the profit they are likely to make off the PCs?

They charged them for the item in the first place, so they at least break even there.

Oh, and I have made a companion thread for this one concerning the Prinny Council, The Prinny God, and Prinny Land. If there are any hoembrewers good with gods and planes on here I could really use some help fleshing it all out.

For those who do not know the original source of the prinnies you can learn more about them here if you like:

Here are a few Youtube videos about them:

Based upon everything i've read, it's actually a pretty accurate depiction of how Prinnies are usually portrayed ( see the anime for example). Here's an idea for the Prinny 'dood' rule. If a party has Prinnies as lackeys or has Prinny PCs and they say 'dood' for about 15 to 20 times, the PCs must pass a DC 12 Will Save to avoid beating, smacking, throwing or otherwise venting rage upon the Prinny. However, this DC gradually rises by 1 for each time the Prinny says 'dood' an additional 10 to 15 times, until they fail and unleash their fury on the poor Prinnies.
