I'm trying to come up with a good Killer Gnome build for a level 5 gestalt campaign I may be entering. Having trouble making exact decisions. I know I want to do a wizard base, but beyond that, not a clue.

Was thinking it might be fun to stack Dark and Shadow on there, but haven't completely settled on that if there's a better alternative.

Thanks!

Factotum is always nice to Gestalt with Wizard, especially since so much of the Factotum's benefits are passive(good HD, lots of skills, extra actions, Int to everything). Wizard 3/Master Specialist 10/ScM 5/Archmage 2//Factotum 20 is generic but good. Wizard 5/Incantrix 10/ScM 5//Factotum 20 works, too.

...Can you play a Killer Gnome at level five, even with gestalt? Surely you won't have access to the PrCs you need to pull it off?

Unless your DM allows you to double-up on PrC's, no, the Killer Gnome can't start any earlier than normal, because it specifically requires 4th level spellcasting.

I'm actually doing exactly this in a game right now, though it's at level 13 (now 14) and thus I was able to start with the full Killer Gnome centerpiece (Shadow Illusion) already in place - I gestalted Factotum opposite my Beguiler/PrC's, along with some template LA, and it worked out very well - if you can get up to Factotum 11 and Cunning Breach, you'll be smoking, since it removes the #1 weakness of the Killer Gnome, the fact that anything he mimics via Shadow Illusion still allows SR.

I came up with one a while back using a stoneblessed kobold (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4947750&postcount=45). Between the standard cheesy kobold sorcerer tricks and the standard cheesy Killer Gnome tricks, he's able to produce 100% real no-XP miracles by level 12. I highly doubt any DM would ever allow it, though.

Well, yeah. Obviously I won't have a true killer gnome build at 5 but I'd like tips as for what feats, etc to take to lead up to it.

It is possible to have the important bits of the killer gnome at level 4 as long as you have moderate depravity from heroes of horror, take the Eldritch Corruption feat from the same book in the feat slot you gained from your taint, have precocious apprentice so you can cast one of the 2nd level shadow spells from spell compendium, and take a flaw so you can pick up spell focus.

Personally I would find it hilarious if your depravity makes you afraid of the dark what with being a shadow mage and all.:smallamused:

Is that possible? I mean, even with heighten, you can't technically 'cast' that that 2nd level spell as a 4th level one, can you?

Ah, nevermind. Reread Eldritch Corruption.

You could always use the other side for the dark creature template, instead of using the umbral collar.

(Probably a bad choice, though)

I don't see the point. You don't really need any other items besides a Headband of Intellect, and you should be able to afford it by the time it becomes most useful.

Although the hide bonus and whatnot are always useful, so it might be worth it.
