Today in percussion practice our band teacher was hinting at something really big that our [middle school] band might get to do. I searched our school on the news and as i turns out were playing at Obama's inauguration! Its so awesome!!

Firstly (and more importantly), congratulations to you and your band!!

Secondly (and more out of curiousity than anything; please take no offense),
Seriously?! A friggin' MIDDLE SCHOOL BAND?! Not even a college or high school?! :smallconfused: Clearly, this seems like a stunt - or do all presidents do this?

1,382 bands applied to be in the inaugruation parade. I dont know how many were chosen but were pretty good for middle school. Every parade we participate in we bring home at least 5 first place trophies and our teacher won music teacher of California award last year. Last parade we even beat the high schools and won $500.

I briefly remember Obama having some children from a church choir at one of his events (or more), so I don't really see it as unplausable for him to have minors play.

Plus it kind of goes with his whole hope for the future thing hes got going.

Wow, Dorian, good for you. You make a very good case for your school's music program. I also came from a great one. I remember in freshman year we went to a competition in Disney World. We took first place in everything but Marching Band.
...We didn't enter in the Marching Band competition.:smallamused:

All in all, curiousity satisfied. And noted, Myatar.

First off, Congrats. Not many people can say they've played for a major figurehead.

Does this remind anyone else of Eagle-Eye?

Congrats!
Are you from Hawaii, by any chance?
I heard that a large group of students from different schools there will be going to DC to play for the inauguration.

Regardless of my political positions, I can say that playing for the inauguration of any president before you get through high school is pretty much your CMoA (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/SugarWiki/CrowningMomentOfAwesome). Good luck trying to top that.

Hey, I might be going to that. I'm in Baltimore right now and one of my friends said she's going so I might tag along. Can't wait to hear you play (should I go or course).

Also, good luck. I'm sure you'll do fine.

That kicks six kinds of ass. I live near DC during break, but I can't go to the inauguration because classes start a week before it. You're really lucky.

Boop~! Good luck.

What're you going to be playing? (or is there only the one song, "hail to the chief" that's ever played when a president is within fifty miles?)
